      Have three daughters and although most times I don't blame the parents but we don't let out kids out of our site...even my son. Trying so hard to let them be independent especially with my 13 year old daughter and 16 year old autistic son but it is so hard. I will say the girl that played Sophie is a very good little actress. And one dude "I learned my lesson" classic predator response. Very few change anything.

    It's fun watching these as an adult and seeing just how many people were guest stars in L&O. The child predator is played by comedian Jim Gaffigan.

    When the mother wants to take the child home, I would think a better approach would be to offer to let the mother be with the child as she tells what she remembers. The girl, feeling safer, and having been reassured by her mom that the mom wasn't mad for the supposed breaking of the rules, would have felt safer to share more details.
    Wouldn't she?

    • @blackdandelion5549
      @blackdandelion5549 Рік тому +16

      As a mother I really get your point and I understand and seeing this is hard. When this is done the parent is not normally allowed to watch as it can be problematic like we just saw. It's a child forensic interview that is done after a crime and parents can give "signals" to a child that what they are saying is correct or incorrect just by how hard they are hugging their kid, looking at them/looking away can be taken as approval or disapproval of what the child is saying, and it can lead to children both leaning on Mom/Dad in order to escape dealing with this challenging stuff or when a parent is very cooperative a child can elaborate falsely and the entire case can fall apart.
      It's horrible for both the child and the parent who is attached to the child. A conviction won't hold up in court if the parent is allowed in.

      @@UA-camallowedmynametobestolen It's very easy to want to emotionally soothe the child as a healthy person with empathy for this kid. It just means you are a very caring person for wanting to do that and most people don't think pragmatically all of the time. It also means the show is acted and scripted well as my first reaction is to go hug the kid and watching the mother act well and the kid act well does make it feel real and like I want to give the kid a puppy and ice cream Stat! as others have said.

    • @mc-rn8ro
      @mc-rn8ro Рік тому +9

      Not necessarily. Kids, even the best kids, will lie in front of their parents to avoid getting in trouble.
      Toward the end of the scene in question, Sophie tells Olivia “I broke the rules.” She’s clearly scared that her mom will be mad at her. She can tell Olivia the truth because Olivia is a friend, not an authority figure in her life.

      @martaborgegard3922 If they can tell sex offenders where they can live, work and get anywhere near, I'm sure they can prohibit them from possessing a costume that was used to help them commit their offenses.

    • @martaborgegard3922
      @martaborgegard3922 Рік тому

      @@memawknowsbest4978 yeah, probably but I just find it hard to believe that something like that can be written into law. Not to go near or live in a place feels like something you can justify (whatever you feel about it and how it’s missused) but like, if someone dressed up as a princess, could they be prohibited from owning a ballgown?

    • @memawknowsbest4978
      @memawknowsbest4978 Рік тому

      @martaborgegard3922 That would depend on the crime they committed while wearing a princess costume. If the crime was abduction and assault of a child, then yes, I'm sure they could. Because that costume has become an instrument of the crime. The same as lock picking tools and guns. Convicted felons don't have the same rights as law-abiding citizens.
