Not all Sacco are regulated by SASRA, Sasra only licenses sacco that has 100m and above. The rest are under ministry of cooperatives and they are regulations that guide them

Thanks for the information. Really insightful. May i also add that the "insurance" savings packages or "insurance investment" packages are also not ideal. Essentially, they are usually very expensive when it comes to management fees, and give really low interest. Incidentally, the companies buy treasury bonds and bills. The endowment ones are even worse

    • @winniebaraza4163

The ones your talking about these are insurance savings plans and not investments. These are saving plans which gives you a free life cover incase of eventualities hence low interest. But if you are looking for investments, just invest in money market or fixed income fund. We offer them at Jubilee Insurance. We are at 15.69% as at 22nd March 2024 for Jubilee Fixed income fund and 15.35% for Jubilee money market fund as at 22nd March 2024.

Hai Coach as usual very informative an eye opening. But i beg to flip this coin the other side on the chamas way. Especially when you say social reasons. Social reasons are very very important i have seen observed and experienced good benefits from this very same reason. There are persons who don't have finance issues as a need but the socializing need coz my be the age there r the friends they make the information one can access when in chamas i can go on and on the chama structure is not all bad once regulated registered objective i tell you they answer more than the money issue.

    • @nox5555

Is a social setting based on money good? those people are normaly in your socal group and class anyway? shouldnt you be able to forge relationships with them anyway?
isnt the informations that people from other social groups and/or classes have be more valuable to you?
working a soup kitchen is not only better for your soul, you also can foster connections to economic classes above you who give and economic classes below you who need.
both classes have higher chances to give you new valuable informations than the people you are around anyway.

And there is nothing wrong with that. You can have the high return accounts as well as your chama for social reasons. Its not always 100% about money. Its that chama that will stick with you during the ups and downs of life. It has social gains that cant be replaced by money. Its that chama that will visit you in hospital or come cook for your visitors during wedding or funeral. Not money 😊. BUT have your own accounts that allow financial growth. You can have both.

Hi Susan, first of all, thank you for the educative sessions on finances. They are really helpful, so keep up the good work!
My question is, how often should you deposit in a Money Market Fund? And are there rules or regulations on how often you should deposit into a MMF? Personally, i am planning to start with KES 10,000 investment into a MMF with the goal of getting 100, 000 at the end of the year. Is this achievable? and will I be required to top up to my 10000 principal? How often?
I hope my question is clear. Looking forward to your response. Thank you in advance.
