Thank you everyone and thanks to Matt for having me! Was a lot of fun. For those asking, yes, this is 31-EDO, and I used the NI Kontakt Scarbee A-200 for the Wurlitzer sound and Surge XT for most of the synth patches in the background. The various synth patches that fade in when I adjust the mod wheel, foot pedal, and the three special yellow Lumatone keys I set up, are all sending various custom CCs which change the volume of these layers. Glad you all like it; we have two more of these and stay tuned for the next ones!
This is possibly the most stunning performance I've ever heard
Agree! Me too!!!
THIS IS AMAZING! looking forward to see more :)
Scarborough Fair sur son 31 ! Génial !
Beautiful harmonies and epic timbres 👏
I can't figure out exactly what's going on but I think I just experienced microtonal music that I actually seriously enjoyed.
@@user-fw9nb6pk9m I had heard only 1 sample of Zheanna Erose before (and didn't remember the name -- looks like that's another whole channel I need to look up), but I can already definitely recommend Cam Taylor.
That's how it starts, welcome to the rabbit hole :P
Yes.Yes, you did...
I don't really trust my ears in the world of microtonality, but I think this piece doesn't employ as many unusual intervals as most pieces out there, thus it soubds more familiar
Most electric guitar music has microtones also if there’s any bends or vibrato those have microtones in them
That tonality you hear around 0:30 is B Bayati, so the notes are B C-half-sharp D E over a B minor chord.
Nice, I think the 31-EDO really brings it out! I could immediately tell this wasn’t 12-EDO
jazzpilled frodocore
None of these words are in the Bible
think about what you said 😔
One of mike's performances many months ago is what inspired to get my own lumatone, I just love how mature he is with microtonality. I would love to see a breakdown of this patch and layout.
That’s why they sponsor him.
Oh HELL yeah! Start it off with bayati subminor 6, killing. The riff sounds gorgeous, great use of delay etc, it's like we're back in the 70's but with way better sound quality and technology.
Did you record two tracks here, with that lower bass synth at the bottom? Or is that just a differently sculpted version of the same performance layered up?
If you're using Pianoteq could I get you to send through your settings for this? It sounds glorious.
Great playing of course as always, and very nice looking video!
Keep it coming!
Beautiful usage of 31
Fuck yeah Mike !!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yooooo Nyel Lee! Long time no see and thank you man, hope things are going well! 🙏
@@MikeBattagliaMusic You still got it man. Things are going great, love ya 3000, Mike!!!
I can't get over the fact how good this is. Breathtaking performance Mike!
What gorgeous sonic wizardry is this
Great performance. Glad to hear some 31,so masterfully done!
Hell yes, any time I see something new from Mike I know it's going to be a good day. Amazing, as always!
Did I hear some House of the Rising Sun in there?
God this sounds so *natural* in 31 EDO! :O
I have no words... only tears in front of such a beauty!
Awesome work, Mike!
31TET, being audibly identical with QC Meantone is a perfect choice for a “Renaissancy” tune like Scarborough Fair!
Gaddamn, Mike. This instrument was made for you.
absolutely phenomenal performance and note choices sir. #bows#
got lost in the delay but the soundscapes are really good with such a good player. Well done!
Only at times it sounded recognisably microtonal… maybe well performed indeed.
Awesome
That sound.. How do i get it
Mike flarping crushing it - as always. Stellar quality, thanks for this!
would be even more great if u add pitch bend and velocity sensitive aftertouch to each key-just an idea
Parsley, Sage, Rosmary, Thyme, plus around a dozen herbs somewhere between...
Is the reason this sounds so good is because this song is older than equal temperment so it would normally have these in between notes?
No it's because Mike's rendition is phenomenal, all of his sounds are perfect, and his use of extra funky notes is extremely tasteful and well placed. He also kinda bends them by overlaying with surrounding notes where most people are just playing them straight, it doesn't really sound good when people try to do that. Funky notes should be funky
This is the future of music.
Accidental notes were invented around the 10th century, so people at that time at least knew the theory behind microtones and why and how to choose non natural notes to expand scales. Since then, these haven't caught on in ... uh over 1,000 years, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

You know how ignorant you sound, right?
I’m sure four wheels driven by some petrol-driven block of iron won’t catch on now. They’ve been around for some hundred years but why can’t people live with three or two wheels on their own foot power?
Holy shit
Love this! Keep up the great work my friend!
whoa dude, freakin awesome!
Very nice piece and performance.
Album when?!
EPIC
Beautiful
Ive long pondered buying a Lumatone and this video really made me take the plunge!
Not that ill be able to play anywhere near this good.
But I am going to have one of the greatest adventures in my life playing with it!
So stoked!
This made me lowkey emotional
This keyboard reminds me of Falcors scales. (The dragon dog from Never Ending Story.)
OMG. Yes. I would love one.
I want to be able to relike this on every listen.
Spectacular
absolutely gorgeous!
Wonderful! More!

Hexagonal keyboard:
Infinitamente hermoso.
Profundo y exquisito.
Considereme por favor su devoto seguidor.
Thank goodness.
Mindestens haben wir ein bisschen mehr Spielzeug als im vergangenen Jahrhundert.
Da haben wir unsere Poppeln gegessen aus purer Verzweiflung 🤷🏻♀️
This is so freakin cool
So glad I subbed to this channel! Keep going!!!
Totally amazing performance!
Wow - this is stunning work. Beautiful!
Great player and great instrument!!!
2:36 ! Gorgeous
Another amazing performance
This is beautiful!!
would be interesting to hear with less reverb
Awesome performance! Great choice of themes and tuning. Good cinematography too.
I personally not so sure about the distortion pedal though…
3:41 - niice
Beast
Would love to hear this with less delay and distortion
By far the most important neurological development of human civilization was the piano keyboard because it organized human hand dexterity with pitch in even ratios. Nice to see that human civilization can still evolve the brain amist all of the cacaphony!
Hey Mike -- I have to ask since talent tends to run in families. Are you kin to Richard Battaglia that does all of Bela Fleck's audio engineering? Saw the name and was wondering. As for the video -- great work as always...you really bring out the best in any tuning you approach and I love it.
so good. i love scarborough fair!!
Stunning.
