It’s kinda crazy. We all thought Ashley was the down bad one, and then this chapter completely hit us on the head and showed that Andrew is even more down bad 😭
I wouldn't say he's more down bad than her. Ashley is just pretty much entirely devoid of guilt or shame. As the text says, she knows what she's about and doesn't care that she's attracted to her sibling. She's done worse and didn't care there either. Andrew, while still a monster does have some degree of guilt and shame, so he repressed those feelings, causing them to swell up and be more noticeable. Ashley acts as if he's more down bad because she knows he's embarrassed by it, and would play defense over it while she doesn't care.
it's funny seeing people coping that andrew was normal, when he is just as obsessed he just gives enough of a fuck to supress his obsession and be in denial while ashley can't be bothered to do that
He was normal once but hes completely trapped in this relationship, imagine having an emotionally manipulative sister who tries to destroy every relationship you have, kills one of her classmates because she confessed to you, guilts you into making you believe it was your fault (he has some fault for letting it happen, but the fact he was just a weak willed kid who had parents who didnt intervene when she manipulated him, and she manipulated him into doing it, to then emotionally blackmail him when shit hit the fan so he can never "leave" her) to her sending death threats to his girlfriends and destroying every relationship he can ever have, idk why he became what he became, honestly, the fact that he has guilt and shame left tells me he just got fucked up in the head from this codependent abusive relationship and all the fucked up shit he has experienced
I mean, when he was freaking out at Ashley about being sent to prison, he was talking about how she would be “taken away from him”, which does imply that, even at that age, he actually did have quite a bit of affection for Ashley. At least, to the point that being separated from her was a pretty bad thing for him while he was freaking out over killing someone.
i kind of feel like he was never normal. even in the flashbacks where they accidentally kill the girl he may have panicked at first but later it's shown as concern that he and his sister will go to separate prisons and not see each other@@checkthisout7616
And I would add to the fact that people have so much emotion about these events. When it's fiction. . . (Not to mention that even at the beginning, for me it looked like there would be incest with them).
@@checkthisout7616 I mean, he was a bit of a piece of shit and a shitty siscon from the beginning, but I get what you mean. You can clearly tell how having a complete dumbass of an incestuous psychopath as a sister would do that to some to a shitty person who happens to be a siscon.
The more I see about this game, the more I realize that literally everyone in it is a fucked-up shell of a human being. Ashley is the most obviously evil person here, but Andrew is nearly as bad as she is. The only difference is that Andrew cared about hiding it.
@kaizen3471 The problem is that "guilty conscience" is more of an ego thing than a superego thing. It's not that what he's doing is morally wrong. He just doesn't want to get caught and face punishment. I'd doubt they'd let him and his sister share a prison cell, after all.
@@ogoosm No, the fault lies in the sociopathic mother who put all her responsibilities as a parent to Andrew and just did what was really necessary. I mean, she admitted even everything. She admitted that she shove Ashley onto him when she realized she (Ashley) was difficult to handle and Andrew could fulfill the role. She abadoned her and refused to do anything as she (Ashley) was just too complicate to handle. Andrew was just the really only one person who really cared about her (Ashley) and because of this she became as manipulative as her mother to keep him around her (Ashley). If it were just Andrew and his father then it would have definetly end differently. But the father is a too submissive and broken man who can't even think for himself anymore. Otherwise he would have divorced long ago.
@@MirrorOfEmotions how come men are unable of taking accountability. both the father and mother are responsible for their CHILDREN its not exactly exclusively the mothers job anymore. "hes just a poor broken man😥" it seems like they all are broken, how is that a valid excuse at all?
Honestly I thought Andrew wanted to be with julia but was manipulated by his sister one too many times. After reading a few comments and the ponytail comment I quickly changed my mind.
@@BurnoutRevengeForThePS2.643nahh when he hugged her he looks unhappy. His thinking that julia wasn't "Ashley" enough, thats why he told her to tie her hair like his sister
There's a unique dialogue when they approach the mom at the basement during dinner preparation. The mom suggest they separate for awhile. After all, absence make the heart go fonder. Andrew in his mind was "The last thing I need is to grow fonder of this nightmare of a woman." I forgot the exact quote but Andrew is just as bad as his sister when it comes to their obsession. He's more subtle all along.
and you a glimpse of it in chapter 1 as well when the sister joking refers to sleeping with the warden for food. andrew becomes FURIOUS actually looking angerier then we ever see him be. the same reactionn and the same face his sister makes when he ever brings up a relationship not with her.
@@chemist3678 there were actually two instances one where she referred to the closest and one where she referred to the board. There’s also another instance in chapter 2, where she made a joke about putting her number rock on. I can’t remember the exact word, but I think it was “private lady” implying you know what and Andrew got just a furious just like when she made similar comments in chapter 1
Notice that when the mom catches them together on the couch where Andrew has the pillow placed.... How the creator is so tactfully subtle with some of the visual clues is wretchingly talented.
Lmao ppl freaking out about the fact that they got some forbidden relationship going on but not the fact that they KILLED their own parents without remorse
honestly good. not really into the incest part myself personally but i'm glad the author isn't bending over backwards for people bitching about social/moral implications and trying to police their own fictional artwork and story. i think if they're really set on the direction being as taboo as possible then all the more power to them as long as they can execute their vision well.
Watching this really made me realize that Ashley only loves Andy/Andrew because he was the only one throughout her entire life who was ever there for her. Nobody would even talk to her except Andy not even her own mother. It makes sense that she’s so dependent on him and in the same sense Andrew has had people throughout his entire life but he always holds them up on pedestal because he’s so attached to his sister. They both have been forced to take care of each other since a very young age and this show what two little kids dealing with immense ptsd have created a trauma bond and find complete comfort in there loathing misery together because that’s all they’ve ever known
Now I don’t think the Incest path is a good one tbh but I do think it’s an extremely interesting thing to see especially between these specific characters.
@@avaparker9221 I mean, Ashley mind manipulated both of them into this whole situation. So, yeah, it isn't really "good" but at least the "sane" one as fuck up as it sounds. I mean, in the other routes the whole relationship is either unchanged or it becomes worse. Only the incest route makes Ashley at least more empathic and less toxic than in the start of the game. She even accepts that Andy isn't a part of Andrew anymore and respects his decision. On the other hand, Andrew stated himself that his dreams are decent and aren't that much a problem anymore. I know, maybe it sounds like I gloss it over but that's not the case. It isn't the best decision but it is at least the less evil of all the other options and the only one which stabilized and mantained there sanity to a certain degree. That's at least how I see it.
At this point, I learned something. Ashley does not "love" Andrew. She thinks it's love, but it's not. It's control, emotional control for her copium and benefit to reassure that SOMEBODY cares about her, even if it's through complete manipulation
The fact that there is 23 minutes worth of Andrew clearly having some very *not* platonic thoughts about his sister is what, in my mind, sets the you-know-what ending seems the most in character for Andrew specifically, I mean, let’s just look back at this, he tells his girlfriend to tie her hair like his sister, to which she responds with „you’ll just pull on it again.“ which is a peculiar statement that suggests that he would love pull his sisters hair during intercourse, he grabs his sisters ass, just straight up hand on cheek action, he sometimes pauses mid conversation just to look at his sister, he makes up reasons to share a bed with her, yet he also stops himself from telling her how he actually feels, multiple times. When his mother suggests that he wants or is banging his sister, he doesn’t act disgusted but rather like he’s been caught with his pants down. I mean jeez his reaction to having a vision where he actually does the secret hanky lanky with his sister isn’t disgust, he instead ops to turn into a tomato and pitch a tent, this man has been in denial for years trying to get girlfriends so he has an „Ashley substitute“ while still somewhat caring for said girlfriend, which, he seems to suck at, as he looks somewhat unhappy when his girlfriend hugs him, so it clearly isn’t really working, with the fact that, Andy already said „They’re going to take *you* away from *me*“, this has clearly been building inside him for, years, these thoughts have all been pushed waaaayyyy back into his mind, where they can fester into an even unhealthier obsession until he either gets those urges satisfied, dies, or kills Ashley. To him this isn’t just a codependent brother-sister relationship, he clearly has an unhealthy and romantic interest in Ashley, the fact they were starving was before was probably the first real distraction he’s had from said thoughts in years, now that they aren’t, he seems to immediately fall back into this habit where he notices that said thoughts exist pushes back into his mind in a never ending cycle of „I really wanna bang my sister, but also, I like having a social life“ Andrew tries to be normal, to fit in, something his sister does not. Although at this point it seems said attempt at being normal was simply to keep up appearances and to try and be his sisters moral compass, the moment they kill their parents, he drops that façade completely, because after this, there isn’t a normal to go back to, so, he drops the act, something he’s definitely not done before, at least around Ashley, since she seems creeped out by Andrews more cold demeanor.
WAIT THAT WAS A VISION. OH HELL NAH NEMLEI NEEDS TO GET THE FUCK OUT *NOW* AFTER PULLING THAT OUT AND SCRATCH THAT BECAUSE *WHY IS NO ONE CANCELLING THIS MAN*
We had the same observation after he kill his parents. He's less nervous and more relaxed. Cheerful even? He finally let it go and be honest with himself. So honest that Ashley is unnerved lol.
The sad thing is, 9:59 the mother scolding Andrew, Andrew trying to deny it, the father watching, bewildered and Ashley jumping in to get her brother in even more trouble is the most normal the family has been. And….its…about…incest…..
I don't know if he being protective towards Ashley, simp, or just follow her command since she the only one who with him like for around 3 month or more and because of that he followed every command including commit an literal murd£r, i don't have any hope of him being edgy and sometimes despread..
Andrew is a really complex character that gives you a headache to understand. While it's harder to excuse Ashely's actions imo, my best guess for Andrew's attraction towards Ashley is that she just....fucked him up *that* badly. Cause unlike Ashely, he does seem mortified at times, questions her actions, but has also displayed so many signs of also being down badly for her. Cause Ashely basically made him fully reliant on him. Even when Andrew got dumped, he didn't really give a shit about it, almost like he was expecting this to happen. It's quite sad, but it also goes to show that Andrew isn't a helpless innocent victim either, which I also love. There is no such thing as an innocent victim in this game@@SolverDeltaic
I might have to go back and check, but I'm pretty sure Andrew knew, or at least strongly suspected that Ashley was harassing Julia before the two broke up. The fact that he never told Ashley to stop, or tried to protect Julia from her in any way is one thing I've never seen brought up. He really did pick her, every single time.
Despite everything, despite acting like the no-nonsense, mature, reasonable older brother that puts his psychotic little sister in her place, taking none of her BS... he's really just her little pet. Still just Andy.
Weirdly enough this game feels nostalgic to me for some reason, It reminds me of this show from the 2000s that used to air on nicktoons called edgar and ellen, but a more fucked up version of it
You skipped the part where Andrew was hard hiding his lap with a pillow and his freshly bitten cheek with his hand as the mom looked at them wondering about the sus ness.
Fuсk! Second time internet hit my head about some unnoticed detail about game. First one been him wanting Julia to make hairstyle like Ashley, and now pillow. From "well, he likes her" it turn out to "well, he reeeeeally likes her" and now to "okay he may live in denial but he want her so bad"
andrew is scary, ashley maybe a insane psycho neurotic werido who wouldn't last 12 seconds out in public alone whilst andrew could probably stalk, ghost kill then get out 12 innocents before being captured by the police and the only thing keeping him at bay is his feelings for that creature he calls his sister.
exactly ashely just dosent care about ANYTHING but him so she acts how she thinks very darkly and twisted for all to see on first glance. while andrew is more like REAL erial iller people who fight agasint a internal darkness deep as hell while seeming totally unassuming and normal on the outside. i geuinly get the feeling if the games story never occured hed end up illing julia and others girls that look like his sister out of a twisted elf ate and digust.
@@housewilma4904Might be a hot take but i think Andrew could’ve been a pretty normal citizen if he was put in therapy or separated from Ashley. Unfortunately though, he wasn’t, and is a product of his environment.
yep to be fair same with ashley they literally abadoned even trying to raise her right just cause she wasnt "easy" like andrew. aka quite and does what ever mom told him too this was "too difficult" so they treated her like a annoyance before she was able to speak properly. which lead her to only have any emotional attachment to her brother from the very start. which festerd into severe self worth issues and obession with her brother then her actions changed him etc etc. in the end the mother is really the one at fault for making monsters despite her trying to pass all responblity onto bad luck. its like a twisted real version of the iron man quote "erial illers arnt born there built"@@strikerali2160

THE AMOUNT OF DIALOGUE AND UNHINGEDNESS IS SO RICH YOU COULD ACTUALLY DO A FULL THESIS ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS WHY WASN'T THERE A BOOK FORM OF THIS WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL, I WOULD'VE GOT STRAIGHT A'S IN ENGLISH
Literally! The psychology in this game is so incredibly interesting and it has me in a VICE GRIP. I want to write a case study on these two so badly. Like their inherent traits, the manipulation, the neglect, the trauma, all of it and more contributes and I want to dissect them.
While I do believe that Ashley is still a worse person than Andrew after the second part released, this second part really fleshed out Andrew’s character. In the first part he was shown as the brother who is getting manipulated by his sister. Example being Ashley manipulates Andrew into believing he brought up eating the cultist. He’s shown as the “victim” and Ashley as the “villain”. In the second part however we are shown that Andrew’s innocent behavior may just be a sort of facade. He begins to show his true colors and becomes less of your typical victim. We are introduced to the fact that Andrew may have even more feelings for his sister than she does for him. His reaction to his mother claiming he’s sleeping with his sister is different. Rather than disputing the claim, he puts on a astonished face and looks surprised. Same thing with the not so sane vision. While I do believe Ashley is still worse with all her people eating and having no remorse stuff, after they killed their parents Andrew sort of dropped his act and began to act more like he want to rather than putting on a mask. Everyone in this story is fucked up and I’m not surprised Andrew was hiding stuff.
i kind of agree but to an extent i don't feel like andrew actually is as morally reprehensible. he clearly has less empathy than the average person but he clearly is mentally affected whenever he DOES have to do bad things
It was really frustrating to see the fruits of this hinted at in episode 1 and having people just pin all of it on Ashley despite that. Im really happy the Author made this more apparent in episode 2 of what you said. The author has made this a interesting dynamic then simple victim and abuser.
To be fair having an extreme reaction to an accusation usually imply person is innocent. Guilty people want to appear innocent so they put on a calm face when accused.
I don’t know, it seemed like there was something off about Andrew even from the beginning. Whenever he committed murder, it was never “oh god I just killed someone”, it was just “oh god we’re going to get caught and we’re going to go to jail”. Even in the past, when he and Leyley shoved that girl into the trunk, he didn’t seem concerned about the act itself so much as the consequences of his actions catching up to him. While he clearly becomes distressed when he does bad things, most of his worry seems to stem from the possibility of getting caught, not from the moral implications of the bad thing. In the first episode, I feel like Ashley just seemed so much worse that we overlooked some of Andrew’s more questionable qualities.
@@soup-o-clock Yeah I think we really see more of andrew's bad side as we were really shocked by ashley's demeanor. I think one of the reasons we see andrew more is because we are used to ashley's behavior in the second chapter. Her character doesnt change all that much while andrew changes. I think it was a good play by the dev to have more of andrew anyway.
I find it funny bc the mom never care about Andrew and Ashley and would just let them die somewhere without a flinch but get worked up by their relationship
Kinda surprised you left out all his jealousy with the wardens, a good chunk was in the first chapter mind you, but in the same dream where he talks to Julia he sees the warden corpses and with one mentions "had to save Ashley, no regrets. This is the one who was always leering at her. One regret, should have killed him slower." There's also the dialog when he's thrilled to find her in the closet in that dream and the subtext about how the dream is him compartmentalizing all the guilt over the murder and eating the cultist by literally putting his bodies parts in the freezer again, and he had that remind him of Nina in her box and the guilt there too, sure, but his feelings for Ashley that he clearly also feels bad about with her literally being the secret in his closet There was just so much hinting at this it didn't feel all that subtle, hell in the nightmare where Andrew tries to kill Ashley (if you go with the don't trust him route) if you just accept your fate and let him kill you, he says he'll "see you again right after" because he's not planning to live without Ashley His feelings were always there, so much so that the mom demands they sleep separately even before accusing him of fucking Ashley, whatever she saw as they grew up was telling enough that this was a development she saw coming a mile away I mean hell, he "chose" her when they were kids, and clearly he meant it seriously Honestly makes me feel a bit bad that she keeps doubting him, like, he ate people for you, there was normal food in the house but you slaved over people soup and he let you feed it to him, he's not leaving you my goodness 😂
Yeah, Andrew is definitely into her. I'm not justifying Ashley's doubtfulness in Andrew, but she most likely feels distrust in him due to how she views herself, the pink plushy description when you play as Ashley says "Useless." While the green plushy was something like "THE BEST BEST BEST THING IN THE WORLD". Her constant need of validation and praise from Andrew is also telling with how poorly she views herself. She *knows* Andrew could do better and find other people, but she doesn't want him to because if he does, who'd be left to stay with her? Kinda sad honestly
@snowparody fair, but i don't think he could actually, not long term anyway, he's better at pretending to be normal, but he's not really any better than Ashley His priority is always not getting caught, it's never to rein her in or talk her out of what she wants to do And i almost glossed over it, but when Andrew tells Ashley he's only putting on appearances, and the mom is too, and Ashley insists it feels the same as ever to her, i wonder if she was actually right, just how long has Andrew been acting? Even then, he's not that good at it, the mom sees right through a lot of his bs but doesn't call him out on it because she doesn't want to start a fight (not when she's in the wrong with her little life insurance scam and all) so i think it's fair to say other people would point some things out to him, like maybe it's weird he lives with his sister and not his girlfriend or whatever and Andrew doesn't like people being shitty about Ashley (as evidence: how carefullly Julia talks about her instead of outright criticism and even then leads with "Don't be mad" i think, not because he ever raised his voice with her, but because she's seen him defend Ashley before) i have to assume the act drops then And i think it always would, he could make friends and have other people in his life, right up until they said something about Ashley or she felt threatened by them, and then Andrew would get rid of them himself They're relationship is codependent because they both need each other
Yep I know that they irredeemable so i just root for Ashley's trust in Andrew (and in herself as @snowparody pointed out earlier) so she can stop suffer from paranoia and begin enjoy her Coffin with Andy (after act 1, more metaphorical one, but i know that they will somehow manage to end up in one same real coffin anyway) a little more
Now that you say it… it makes total sense why if you don’t trust him to stay with the parents, he snaps into the decay route. Yeah.. that makes more sense now. Ashley being afraid of him going forward might actually save her. Because. If she keeps pushing… coffin. Oh yeah, Burial.. (unless they fuck first 😶)
The fact that he has a better head on his shoulder makes the whole thing so much worse for him, and everybody says he’s the decent sibling. Now I’m curious to see how far gone he’ll go. Also love how you pointed out the “they’re going to take you away from *me*” dialogue when they were kids, and its not “they’re going to take me away from you” we know Andrew is important to Ashley but its almost the same other way around. Andrew is possessive of his sister in his own way
@@slevinchannel7589 Financial struggles. Therapy is expensive. She neglected them, wasn't home most of the time, she had a teenage pregnancy in the first place, and gave up on Ashley immediately. She is an awful mother
@@thatitalianlameguy2235 Plus if you read the note sent by a "friend" they mention how Ashley and Andrew dying is for the best. So apparently the Mom is even talking about them behind their back's because the relationship isn't normal. She excludes the fact that she never gave either of her children that much attention to begin with. And more importantly she got rid of them to get all that money and to supposedly have sex without her children listening/being there.
In my opinion, I think Andrew has always been the more messed up one. Ashley pretty much wears her emotions on her sleeves, always saying what she wants and is very impulsive. Several points in the game, she just blurted stuff out, and Andrew has to constantly correct her because she'd get them in trouble if he didn't. Andrew is scary smart. He knows how to act, play the victim, and how to hide the evidence. Not to mention that it comes down to it, he'll absolutely kill people with no remorse if he can get away with it. Not to mention that funnily enough, ashley was right about one thing, at least. She never forced him to kill people (except for Nina via pressure), he just up and did it on his own. I think Andrew does have a small, tiny, semblance of a conscience, and throughout the game, that conscience is tested over and over, and over and over, he loses more and more of that conscience. Until it gets to the point that he is chopping up his parents' bodies with zero expression on his face, something that even makes Ashley of all people scared and uncomfortable. That's because he's dropped the act, he doesnt care to hide his own messed-up head anymore. All he cares about is his sister, and as long as she lives, he'll keep being this way. I'd mention his subtle and then later obvious incestuous interest with Ashley, but i think that dead horse has been beaten enough, Lol. The fact of the matter is that Andy has always had or has always been worse than Leyley. It just took some time and pressure to get it out in the open. And now that it's here, anyone that isn't Ashley is not safe around him. And Ashley, in her own crazy imagination, wouldn't have it any other way.
Ah yes another linguistic master show me your ways why is Master of the dark I wish to speak in such a manner as to Proclaim my love for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ God help you
What’s funny is that everybody told me I was crazy when I said I knew this game was going to involve incestuous themes. The creator has a long history of incest stories. Surprise surprise…
ok, but I suspected this from chapter one. Even then, Andrew had a very weird undertone when teasing Ashley. I remember this specific scene where Andrew tells her about the "romantic" thought of jumping off the balcony, their flesh "mixing" together in a mush. Man, the signals are there, and I believe that whatever path you choose, sane vision or not, the crush Andrew has for Ashley is going to appear/continue. It wouldn't even surprise me if the no sane vision route is the canon one. It has been there since the very start.
The fact that in the jeezcest ending he's the one embarassed and the one pushing for it the whole time while denying so while it's shown that she doesn't care about a physical connection unless it's a means to get him closer to her ,and only wants his undivided attention and to keep him to himself for fear of abandonment makes it so much worse, because it paints Ashley as an actual womanchild with trauma: impulsive, childish, needy and cannot live by herself at all and does not care for his feelings because children are naturally selfish and looking for love, which her parents and fellow kids never gave to her , just andrew. While he is an adult: with clear indecent feelings he barely controls, violent outbursts and a lack of care for his misdeeds , that could escape, but doesn't want to not just for guilt but because he's just as addicted to her as she is, just in a much worse, perverted level. The neglect from their parents (who, by the way, were horrible teenage parents, since the mother says at his age they were 7 and 5 respectively, so she was 15 when she had him) turned them into self insufficient sociopaths that won't stop at anything to be happy, whatever their happiness may be....
For Ashley there's also the fact that she's a psychopath. You can't deny that, her reaction to seeing her "friend" dead was literally "yeah, whatever" and the first thing she thought after picking up a gun was "I should murder that woman downstairs". Those are not the reactions of a traumatized person, they're the reactions of a psychopath. You can also tell that by that part where she starts crying for Andrew to lock the girl on the chest, but then suddenly stops when Andrew says he chose her and says "prove it", it just shows how manipulative she is. That doesn't excuse Andrew though...
@@euarduu ashley being a psychopath was well described in the og comment tho... The thing is that, at the same time Ashley does not know empathy and cannot live by herself because being a psychopath is like being a child, Andrew does have empathy towards the people he kill, he just choose to not care about it eventually and clearly has perverted feelings towards Ashley, those she never really cared about because all she cares about is having him her side no matter what

there's also a scene in which while Andrew is watching TV on the motel, if you talk to him while being in front of the TV, Ashley tease him about not being able to see because: "she has fat tits". If you talk to him again after the interaction, Andrew teases him and agrees in the fact, smiling

We literally see how Ashley whispering to him in his sleep changed what he saw in his dream, who knows how long she was sitting there planting ideas into his head and how it effected the nightmare or how many times she done it without him knowing.
Though i'm pretty sure the scene took place "playing as Ashley", implied by the fact she's the foccus of the narration when they wake up. Soo Ashley was sleeping, sharing the "nightmare" (it's actually a vision), and not at all manipulating it. Though we could be talking about completely different things
nope this is a vision of the future that both of them are having using the demon pendant. if you have andrew not pursue or begin to crack under his twisted repressed feelings. you get a dream implying andrew would eventually stop ashely by illing her. but in this route you have andrew do what ever ashly wants making them grow even closer to the point this dream is now the future. implying the "final ends" of the game will either be andrew ending ashley and himself sparing the world of two psychos with his last shreds of morality. or he succumbs to his "real self" and becomes just like ashley embracing the evil madness n sin leaving world with a cannibialistic inbwed erial iller demon worshipping couple.
It might just not be what it looks like. Could be some kinda ritual or something. Also she did the gently thing again like with the blood oath, so maybe they have to just suck each others blood or something? Gonna be real with you, I'm pretty sure they just end up banging tho.
I mean, in that nightmare, Andrew is able to point out to himself something that he knew wasn't right, when Leyley in the nightmare suggests in a quiet voice to "Kill your parents," but he never has this reaction with dream Julia; we don't see him thinking something like "(Why did I say that?)" after he makes that remark to her.
Kinda interresting how Ashley seems to express her feelings with jokes, while Andrew can't but dissimulate his opinion about Ashley in between monologues so that almost nobody see that, thinking the things he wants to do (that line when he pushes his thought of hugging Ashley behind his mind with other things he wish he didn't think about says it all) and also doing without realizing compromising gestures
she doesn't like him sexually though, her thoughts say that she is only interested in keeping him around her forever, and she will do that only if he wants to so she can control him that way

In a regular setting andrew's actions could be justified These are not regular settings however, im assuming the mental depreciation of alienation, starvation, and multiple near death experiences, along with the cannibalism and numbness to death at an early age tipped him over the edge She isnt simply the most important person in the world to him like any other brother would feel, but rather the ONLY "object" of importance, which is likely where the romanticism stems from.
This. Like let’s just address the elephant in the room, this is an absolutely fucked-up world where most of the time it’s every man for himself. I mean probably one of the dude’s first experiences with death is pretty much murder by proxy and said death is loomed around him as blackmail from his sociopathic narcissistic sister. It’s safe to say even without the quarantine his sister made it clear it is her and only her he is friends with or else. My personal theory is that he’s suffering a mix of forced dependency and Stockholm syndrome, both self explanatory in their own way, but as things like this video show, it’s safe to say that essentially always been this way and is just really good at hiding it. If I had to pick one, I honestly believe the former as it just in a strange way makes more sense to me, but he’ll what do I know, quarantine can mess a guy up. TL:DR if you have better things to do; Andrew is either truly down bad and is really good at hiding it, or the poor guy’s just a psychological and emotional mess, and knowing the shitty world and the people along with it, I have no trouble believing dude is just absolutely broken.
You are missing THE most important part: when in Andy's dream you look at the bodies, you can see that he does not feel bad about killing all those people and only is scared that he will get caught. Especially with the woman he killed it's striking how he goes "oh well, Ashley would have wanted her dead anyway, so no biggie I killed her". After that it becomes especially clear that he is just as cold-blooded as his sister and just as inclined to violence (maybe even more).
Honestly him wanting to hug her till she smiles and making excusing to share her bed due to night terrors from him repressed guilt and her being the only thing to calm them is pretty wholesome. Him knowing that her lips are chapped a quarter passed midnight, after she's asleep. That he either carefully caresses them or kisses them to know that and her being taken back by that knowledge is pretty...shocking isn't the word...fascinating maybe? She doesn't address it other than to ask if she needs lip balm to make them less chapped for him when he does it. Which is wholesome...but absolutely messed up. Never change game.
@@OltiemalOh yeah, more likealy xd since the whole chompy whompy was in the night. But is fun to imagine it that way, because HE DEFINILLY has a thing for night snacks
3 other things I picked up on: 1. Andrew plays with Ashley's hair a lot. When she woke up with her head in his lap while they were watching TV after she passed out, and when she woke up (again, with her head in Andrew's lap) in the hitman's car after the demon summoned her, he had his fingers in her hair. And in the Decay vision, he grabbed and dragged her by her ponytail. And what did he tell Julia when he asked her to tie her hair up and she complained he'd pull on it again? "It's how boys show their love." 2. Andrew reacts very strongly to the mere idea of Ashley being intimate with another man. Like when she jokingly wondered if she'd get food if the cultist got her pregnant or if she could make money by being a call girl, when he said he wouldn't have let the wardens fuck her, and when he wished he could've killed one of the wardens slower for always leering at her. 3. When Andrew hugged Ashley after their fight in Room 302, he totally had his face buried in her cleavage, or at least gave himself a good view.
this is why i hate it when people say ashley is the only crazy one and that “andrew deserves better” andrew is equally as psychotic as ashley and just as infatuated with her then she is obsessed with him. it is a toxic co-dependency at its finest. p.s. though their relationship is extremely toxic, they physically need eachother. so no, andrew, nor ashley “deserve better” as they literally are each others “better”.
He still have some regret and still have some kind of moral but he know he goes too far to stop know and his sister has alway be the center of his attention and the only personne who he could talk about his private life and stuff like that so their relation will be very strong even without the hormone doing their jobs and even then when they were the dream of sex he didn’t seem exited at all but disgusted and even think and say why why why she is like that with him she is teasing him and he can’t stop all his thought
I like to keep a mental checklist of whether a form of media depicts a none platonic brother and sister relationship, and or either one being a complete and utter psychopath, or even both. Because this game has LITERALLY checked all of the boxes. Great job dev team!
2:46 it makes total sense now as to why their mom thought they were getting freaky or I guess freakier, fingers in the belt loop is not only something couples do, but cheesy couples, the type to give eachother nicknames, I guess andy and leyley are their nicknames, so it fits I guess especially with the vision.
half a year ago in russia guy with a girl (they were siblings) jumped off a roof because society didn't accept their love and they were buried in the same coffin because they couldn't separate them. found the source of the game and the joke from part 1
makes a lot of sense. he does what ashley tells him to not because he's scared or worried or feels trapped, he does it for her approval and to stay with her.
I always got the impression that since he was forced into raising her at such a young, impressionable age, Andrew only had his crappy parents and probably at best fictional characters to actually go of on how to behave. Think about it. They're in a crappy neighbourhood filled with mostly crappy people, Andrew himself included. So, perhaps because his parents didn't care less to teach him on how be a decent sibling and left him and Ashley to their own devices, he probably subconsciously believed at a young age that you only do this for you *romantically* love. Having the misconception that love is only meant to be romantic and love conquers all, and the whole shebang. I don't know entirely why, though. Maybe his parents never had siblings or never spoke of em, which left poor Andrew without reference beyond, "Oh, hey. They seem happy together and they love each other very much. That's just like me and Ashl--oh, wait." So definitely developed a crush on his sister. Probably started off as platonic obsession, as you do when forced in a situation like such as that and you ain't entirely selfish and yet slightly off your hinges. Perhaps as she and him grew closer he may have started feel stuff, although I think it properly started after the murder where she landed blackmail on him and forced to deal with tooootally not messed up advances and absolutely subtle declaration of her feelings. Maybe he was somewhat happy despite his crappy situation. But over time, Ashley issues became more obvious, her being a red flag on a missile, and he at some point realised how jacked his feelings were. So he suppresses it. And since it fester inside him for so long, it decayed and rotted him from the inside out. Which brings us here. A person, while not good, is mostly a victim to circumstance and a corrupt upbringing. But his sister do be looking fine, though---
Love how the fanbase is torn between who the victim is (Andy or Leyley) and this is based on individual experiences so it's subjective for the fans. Keep it simple folks, they're both horrible.
I'd rather be locked in a room with Andrew than Ashley though, just saying He is fucked up but he has more empathy than Ashley the several times they've both killed someone
At some point i remember Andrew saying something along the line "i shouldn't be feeling this way" (or something like that). That particular sentence hit the nail to my head and i realized not only Ashley but also her big brother is fucked up. The beginning of the gameplay i thought that it was just the typical sister being jealous trope and that she was manipulating Andrew to be the way he is but then i noticed how Andrew touches Ashley sometimes. It's weirdly intimate. The one that REALLY stuck out to me was that when Andrew asked Julia to tie her hair for him. If that didn't give it away, then idk what tf else to say 💀
I havent been playing the actual game itself, just watching lets plays of it, but now reading the lines with the music clearly gives it a better artistic expression: like the unnerving tick of the clock's gears. Just subtle things like that brings such life to stories like these, we fixate on background noises like the direct current beat of a leaky faucet, the locus's song, wind's waltz, I personify these sounds and metaphorically give them meaning, yes it's a little insane to think like that, but I never thought there would be such masterful rhetoric in the virtual-novel world. I mainly read novels so just witnessing and realizing the value another meduim uses is amazing to me.
yes! the monotonous tick of the clock as they rot away together. I completely agree. I only watched lets play people talking over it. so now no voice over is a new experience
Damn this is beeg. When you think about it, even before that one scene happened, there were still too many hints that Andrew was secretly down bad for his sister. No matter how much he’s tried to deny it. 😂
@@xoxojustno6971bro I’m down bad for him. I’d bark, beg, and hands on the floor on my knees, BUT NOT THAT DOWN BAD😨 (I’ve literally seen ppl wanting to wish that they were his sister even if it’s a joke😭)
One moment I'm glad you included is 10:57 since this seems to be one of the only times that Ashley is the one acting sus. For most of the story, it's obviously hinted that Andrew has feelings for her, but she doesn't really see it the same way he does. But here, she reacts VERY differently. She gets a little defensive, clearly sees Andrew in a different light after killing their parents, and she even goes so far as to call him "Andrew" rather than "Andy". It's clear that, for one brief moment, Ashley experienced the same "sus fellings" for her brother that he has for her.
She wants him to be her errand boy, dependant on her even more than she on him, but in that moment she seen him as cold mature bad boy and feel things about it >:D
I think she was really freaked out too. She sees that Andrew isn't under control anymore , but is actually doing this of his own free will and it scares her. Be it because she realized he's staying with her because he wants to or something else
13:28 the dots spell out something in morse code ... . . . . .... . . ... . S e e e h e e s e Which flipped is e s e e h e e e s Which if scrambled can spell s h e e e e e e s Which means absolutely nothing
Ashley has essentially conditioned Andrew his entire life, all the hints are there and that makes the game have a surprising amount of replay value if you're very into the world of these two. Huh, so this is why we can't have kind older siblings. Fair.
Has she though? He enables her. Like what power does she hold over him? He trapped Nina in because he didn't care about Nina. He was always apathetic except when it comes to Ashley. He is obsessed with her, all the hints show it. She doesnt make him do this shit, he lets her make him do it. So that he has an excuse afterward. He chose to do it. He is not a victim. (As far as my Interpretation after Episode 2 goes).
@@davgg9621yeah he enables her, as he was conditioned to. You clearly never been in an emotionally manipulative relationship and I'm glad for that. I've been there with an ex (no murder or cannibalism just drugs) and it is it's own kind of hell where you'll be doing things you never thought you would just to make the only person that pretends to care about you happy. Andrew is a normal guy who let her worm in and manipulate his entire life for about 15 years leaving him completely codependent. At this point he's responsible for his actions but if it weren't for Ashley he'd be totally normal and there's a chance he could recover
@@shoelessbandit1581Honestly dont really agree with you on that, since he was the only one who made gestures to lead the relationship into something sexual
@@shoelessbandit1581he’s not a normal guy at all. He literally never cares about the people he murders, only worries about getting caught. 0 guilt. What’s normal about that 💀
We need Episode three to be more Andrew focus. Because at first glance he does come off as more normal then Ashley but…. Even as kids, he’s way more apathetic towards his care of others if it’s Ashley vs them. And there’s just a lot of art of him holding Ashley, her hair, belt loops, neck, the biting, they sleep in the same bed even before getting quarantined. Mrs. Graves looks like she’s suspected Andrew for years (the face of a woman who lives to give side eye) and yet doesn’t do anything about her daughter’s living situation. She blames everything on Ashley from birth. Like what makes Andrew so special? Honestly the parents don’t treat Andrew that much nicer ( like it seems they monetarily support him but Mrs. Graves really talks down to bother her children and treats the oldest more like a nanny).
Not a psychiatrist but kinda fan of the subject and here is what i could gather. Ashley most likely has ASPD and it seems to be a form of sociopathy due to her general carelessness of what could happen due to her murderous spree. Andrew is a lot more difficult to analyze. He might have ASPD but neither sociopathy due to his overall carefulness and thinking around consequence of their action nor is he a psychopath due to his strong feeling toward Ashley. If not ASPD another possibility could PTSD most likely caused by the death of Nina but this mainly based on his nightmare (which he himself say aren’t that common) and seemingly depressive looking state (mostly in chapter 1). Lastly, though it might be bit of a long shot, he might have a bipolar disorder, which could explain the mood swing you see when he is talking for exemple with his mother and difficulty to keep a relationship (though his sister doesnt help in the slightest either). TLDR Ashley might be simple to understand, Andrew not so much.
Not one either but so far what I’ve gathered is both are traumatized. Ashley seems to be sociopathic and manipulates and abuses her brother, wanting him to stay, needing his attention, being far to dependent on him, not wanting anyone else to be important in his life. Andrew is traumatized not only from his parents but also his sister. Their incestuous relationship is obviously a result of that. Therapy and medication would help them, if they cooperated and were open to help
People be saying Andrew is more downbad while in one of those 127 voicemails from Ashley, she basically brags about being the side chick and still getting more love than his now ex girlfriend. He's subtle with his horniness because he has morality, she doesn't. Which is why she's so blatantly obvious
@@thatitalianlameguy2235 in andrews nightmare you get to listen to julia's phone where ashley left 127 voicemails threatening her. You get to hear the first 3 or so before the game stops you.
What’s really telling about Andrew, is that it seems like he listened to some of the voicemails. Like he actively knows that Ashley will harass anyone he dates and he does so anyway. Knowing that he will have to listen to Julia complain. Honestly, his face after joking with Julia about tying her hair. Looks like the face of longing.
@@TheFarinsqarin The fact that when he got dumped and he didn't....really give a shit about it tells a lot. It doesn't matter how many girls throw themselves at Andrew, he only wants Ashely. It's sickening, but goes to show that there is some truth to the voicemails. How the only reason Andrew still dates other girls only for the physical connection cause he can't have that with Ashley
When Andrew woke up from the dream (i forgot what it was called) his face was all red and he looked as if he was blushing/flustered, and when Ashley confronts him about it and asks (jokingly) if he has those dreams, Andrew gets REALLY defensive, while it would be more "in character" for him to tell her to f off. So i dont think it was the first time he saw something like that in his dream
It’s kinda crazy. We all thought Ashley was the down bad one, and then this chapter completely hit us on the head and showed that Andrew is even more down bad 😭

WE SHOULD'VE LISTENED TO THE MOM
They're codependant, after all, lmao
It Is way less obvious. But still, damn Andrew chill.

No, the fault lies in the sociopathic mother who put all her responsibilities as a parent to Andrew and just did what was really necessary.

Watching this really made me realize that Ashley only loves Andy/Andrew because he was the only one throughout her entire life who was ever there for her. Nobody would even talk to her except Andy not even her own mother. I mean, Ashley mind manipulated both of them into this whole situation.
I agree
That's not true at all. Nina talked to her. Despite doing it because of Andrew, she did care for her.

THE AMOUNT OF DIALOGUE AND UNHINGEDNESS IS SO RICH YOU COULD ACTUALLY DO A FULL THESIS ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS

And finally even admitted she was a bad mother because of it
they were more chill about being sacrificed to a demon
probably because it would give her bad reputation
Knowing their mother, she'd definitely rather have the two of them dead than alive and together like...that.
Kinda surprised you left out all his jealousy with the wardens, a good chunk was in the first chapter mind you, but in the same dream where he talks to Julia he sees the warden corpses and with one mentions "had to save Ashley, no regrets. This is the one who was always leering at her. One regret, should have killed him slower."
There's also the dialog when he's thrilled to find her in the closet in that dream and the subtext about how the dream is him compartmentalizing all the guilt over the murder and eating the cultist by literally putting his bodies parts in the freezer again, and he had that remind him of Nina in her box and the guilt there too, sure, but his feelings for Ashley that he clearly also feels bad about with her literally being the secret in his closet
There was just so much hinting at this it didn't feel all that subtle, hell in the nightmare where Andrew tries to kill Ashley (if you go with the don't trust him route) if you just accept your fate and let him kill you, he says he'll "see you again right after" because he's not planning to live without Ashley
His feelings were always there, so much so that the mom demands they sleep separately even before accusing him of fucking Ashley, whatever she saw as they grew up was telling enough that this was a development she saw coming a mile away
I mean hell, he "chose" her when they were kids, and clearly he meant it seriously
Honestly makes me feel a bit bad that she keeps doubting him, like, he ate people for you, there was normal food in the house but you slaved over people soup and he let you feed it to him, he's not leaving you my goodness 😂
@snowparody fair, but i don't think he could actually, not long term anyway, he's better at pretending to be normal, but he's not really any better than Ashley
His priority is always not getting caught, it's never to rein her in or talk her out of what she wants to do
And i almost glossed over it, but when Andrew tells Ashley he's only putting on appearances, and the mom is too, and Ashley insists it feels the same as ever to her, i wonder if she was actually right, just how long has Andrew been acting?
Even then, he's not that good at it, the mom sees right through a lot of his bs but doesn't call him out on it because she doesn't want to start a fight (not when she's in the wrong with her little life insurance scam and all) so i think it's fair to say other people would point some things out to him, like maybe it's weird he lives with his sister and not his girlfriend or whatever and Andrew doesn't like people being shitty about Ashley (as evidence: how carefullly Julia talks about her instead of outright criticism and even then leads with "Don't be mad" i think, not because he ever raised his voice with her, but because she's seen him defend Ashley before) i have to assume the act drops then
And i think it always would, he could make friends and have other people in his life, right up until they said something about Ashley or she felt threatened by them, and then Andrew would get rid of them himself
They're relationship is codependent because they both need each other
Yep
I know that they irredeemable so i just root for Ashley's trust in Andrew (and in herself as @snowparody pointed out earlier) so she can stop suffer from paranoia and begin enjoy her Coffin with Andy (after act 1, more metaphorical one, but i know that they will somehow manage to end up in one same real coffin anyway) a little more
Totally agree. The difference between them is Ashley is just straightforward about her feelings but andrew is (trying)keeping his feelings hidden

And Ashley, in her own crazy imagination, wouldn't have it any other way.

because it paints Ashley as an actual womanchild with trauma:
impulsive, childish, needy and cannot live by herself at all and does not care for his feelings because children are naturally selfish and looking for love, which her parents and fellow kids never gave to her , just andrew.
Though i'm pretty sure the scene took place "playing as Ashley", implied by the fact she's the foccus of the narration when they wake up. Soo Ashley was sleeping, sharing the "nightmare" (it's actually a vision), and not at all manipulating it.

He not even consider as option to not kill someone his dear sister wants dead lol
It's probably because earlier she kisses him to tease mom

bro really said "live your life to the incest"
I'm sorry but WHAT 💀
Who said that I just wanna talk to him (illager crossbow loading noise)
3 other things I picked up on:
1. "It's how boys show their love."
3. When Andrew hugged Ashley after their fight in Room 302, he totally had his face buried in her cleavage, or at least gave himself a good view.
this is why i hate it when people say ashley is the only crazy one and that “andrew deserves better”
andrew is equally as psychotic as ashley and just as infatuated with her then she is obsessed with him.
it is a toxic co-dependency at its finest.
p.s. though their relationship is extremely toxic, they physically need eachother. so no, andrew, nor ashley “deserve better” as they literally are each others “better”.
This is literally a Shakespeare tragedy at this point.
+ when he was shocked about how the mother would accuse something, he wasn't shocked in a disgusted way - more like "caught red-handed" way.
I like to keep a mental checklist of whether a form of media depicts a none platonic brother and sister relationship, and or either one being a complete and utter psychopath, or even both. Because this game has LITERALLY checked all of the boxes. Great job dev team!
Well then, please tell results. Both psychopathic, or nah? We know it's none platonic, but is Andrew as bad as Ashley in your opinion?
2:46 it makes total sense now as to why their mom thought they were getting freaky or I guess freakier, fingers in the belt loop is not only something couples do, but cheesy couples, the type to give eachother nicknames, I guess andy and leyley are their nicknames, so it fits I guess especially with the vision.
i love how this is basically all of chapter 2

Man, not to mention that line in chapter one i think where he wished he killed the guard slower for looking at Ashley

Now I need an actual psychologist or psychiatrist to break down what happens here cause GOT DAYUM
