I hear you about living alone in paradise. I feel I've spent so many years living like that. It is so different from the life we are used to in the States, although the town I grew up in is also a summer resort and in the winter "they roll up the sidewalks" as we say. So I grew up with a lot of solitude, being on the winter beach alone, in the wood etc with my dog or dogs and a handful of good friends who became increasingly busy with jobs, marriage, kids or moved away. In the Islands there is even greater turnover and the people you meet and bond with are often gone in a year or two as you say, just mostly leaving you and the locals, or married couples or older people, who you don't always have that much common with and are also busy doing their own thing. When you're travelling or living on the road, the experience of meeting and connecting with people intensely and then having them gone is even greater. At the end of the day, I guess I like solitude but there is absolutely something great about having a handful of amazing friends or community, which I hope to find when I move down there. I have found I that I tend to create a new family of sorts when living so far from my actual family and friends. I want to find somewhere I love and make that home and really make a comfortable life that does include some good friends, also be able to travel and keep seeing some of the world. I really want to go to Jamaica, Brazil, back to Belize and also to Colombia and maybe even back to Bali. But one step at a time, I guess. I know it's attainable if I stay clear about what I want and on my goals and of course keep the cash somehow flowing in. Great, thoughtful video that people will appreciate, I am sure!! :)
I loved your video. I think it's a good idea to comment on these details about Costa Rica so that people who come don't get discouraged by some fantasy. You have two beautiful companies: your beautiful dog and yourself. There are many different situations and some are more difficult than others. The best of all is that our life is not like a book that we can see the last page of. It's a surprise! So, I hope you meet people from the town who will stay to give you their company and friendship.
Chenz, don't forget the "friends you had that: always cost you money. never reciprocate your help try to f your girl spread bs rumors dont let you know what "people" are saying less friends is more for sure. that little dog you got loves you more than half the people you've known. don't discount alone time it helps you grow! people who need too many people wont make it when shit hits the fan, take care of yourself, learn what your capable of and dont sweat the small shiiiittte....pura vida bro.
Ya Chanz. It's going to be my 28th year here in a few weeks and I have seen my share of people come and go but I try and stay in touch with some of them and it's kinda cool to have friends living all over the world. Peace, Love, and Happiness to you on your journey. Pura Vida 🌴
I really appreciate the realism in this video. I haven’t moved there yet and I will gradually spend bigger blocks of time there in the future. But what you describe is a transient population unless you are completely immersed in the tico culture. Makes you think about what kind of social network to seek when and if you decide to relocate.
So a place for extroverts and adventures 🎉 cheers , maybe during winter ill come down and see ya chenzo … maybe start lining up viewers and places to stay .
Hey, we are moving to San Isidro in a few weeks. We love Costa Rica, but... They need a Medical Cannibus Program in CR. Other than that, we are confident that we made a great choice in moving there. We will be in country on Sept. 8th.
@@Chenzaloon Chenza!!! How are you? Thanks for responding. It is an issue that we had even in Jaco. We lucked up and someone hooked us up on our last day. A good Samaritan! He was right on time. We were visiting, but we are moving this trip, and we smoke so we are concerned.
Enjoying your videos always, Chenzaloon -- suddenly today watching this video the thought occured to me, if you are there alone, who is the CAMERA PERSON ??? Or do you use a drone for the 'long shots' etc. I have noticed you now have aeriel shots (drone ? ) -- all GOOD ... just curious ... there is so much technology available these days.
I'm laughing because Michel and I came here to get AWAY from people. 😄😄😄 Mission accomplished! Couldn't be happier...but yeah, I do see how it could be problematic for some folks.
I live near Carrizal on the border of Heredia & Alajuela .... if you are ever near here , please remember you have a friend to visit that you haven't met in person yet :)
Chenz thank you for the info. I will be fine with not having too many friends. When we were there I guess because I’m Hispanic, we met a lot of Tico’s and they were very friendly. One friend or two will be fine. BTW- great video, definitely a subject for which I’d never thought or heard about from anyone else. Appreciate you and what you do!
Yeeew! I guess it's more or less everywhere you live 'cause people move, friends get older and get married, others are in your live just for a small time but always there is someone, maybe just one friend your's forever. Pura Vida and love from Puerto Rico.
WOW Chenz that was some hike. I was worried you would get dehydrated ? You didn`t bring any water with you ? Why did you move from the beach ? I see your still smoking joints I`d do less of that if I were you . Your still very young but smoking joints or smoking anything is very bad for your lungs. How is the lady doing back at the beach the one you so generously help build and repair her home ? I`m sure she will be a life long forever friend. You had a girlfriend or two too back at the beach do you still get in touch with them ? Friends are golden .
I go to Costa Rica 4-5 times year. Wanted to live there, however no way. Better to vacation there and travel throughout because it is amazing. Beach and mountains in every trip. Plus like Chenz just said, many other Central and South American places to visit. Cant hit them all, but gonna try. Matter of fact, I just talked myself into a quick trip. Ha
Chenzalon is okay to alone you have peace enyoy while last until you go back to beach. San Isidro may be the place for me I would like to buy land hight ground with view of the beach even faraway just a view of the ocean , will be nice, i I have to sell the land in here in AZ so i can in CR i just thinking out loud must provable my family would go with me i cannot leave by myself, iam tica.. ..thank you Chenzaloon for your info.
Hey hey ❤ being alone would be no problem for me . I've spent most of my life alone just seeing people here and there for short periods of time. I'm cool with that I'm happy although I would like to travel more have a go😊d evening
Hey, stranger who also smokes and uses airports here, moving to Bijagua on New Years day. Which airport? Liberia or San Jose or one I don't know about yet? :) Always down to comment-connect with smoka buds in other countries, especially ones I am moving to ;)
My name is Henry, from 2001 to 2010 i lived in CR i had to leave after Obama Great Recession killed tourism, i have developed an online income and i am moving back in a few months, it took so long to get my ducks in a row. I am going straight to san Isidro PZ and will hang out at Dominical Beach on the weekends. i am not leaving that area lol it is the greatest place i have ever lived. if you are still there when i move we can hang out and have a casada every now and then and maybe bbq!!
I would like to add two my husbands comment. We traveled from northern canada in your 1979 vanguard motorhome. We arrived in costa rica in February . we explored many places, we went back to canada in april for two months. We are now back in the San Isidro area house sitting. We follow you and its would be great if we could connect. We aren't planning on leaving costa rica, we plan on making costa rica our home. I am working on our youtube videos, will be posting one this week about our rental car experience, getting out motor home out of federal compound amd our adventure in la Fortuna lake arenal area.
Dude, I loved your channel until you said you hate hippies……I am a hippie from the 70’s. I chose you to learn about Costa Rica from you because you reminded me most of an authentic person. Either hippie means something different these days or you don’t know wtf you’re talking about. In either case…..looking for a new channel now. PS…this was a response to your July 4 video, which I couldn’t respond to.
" hippie means something different these days" - 55 year old here. In the 80s and 90s you'd find me in the grateful dead tour lots. Nowadays, there is no "love" in the "hippie" scene, in fact there is no "hippie" scene. The new "hippie" is the "hipster" and its not what it was. Now its about a certain look, a certain lifestyle lived for photographic effect on Instagram, not substance. So yeah, I formerly was identified by anyone who saw me as a "hippie" and now I do everything I can to avoid that moniker. It's NOT 1970 anymore and the modern "hippie" is just cliche and not even a good shadow of it's former self. In the USA anyway... They lost the "love" and just want to do MDMA at burning man now so that they can flex later on social media about how "hippy" they are. It went from non conforming, non-combatant to a full on popularity war and ego contest.
Hi there, thank you! I had no idea……but, it shouldn’t surprise me. So I apologize Chaz, I didn’t know. Everything is something different, everything has changed and definitely not for the better. This world is in serious trouble and they can’t even see it. Thank you for clarification…I’ll stick with sex, drugs and rock and roll that being the case! Peace….
I am an American who has lived in CR for over 20 years. When I first started working here, one of my co-workers (a Tico) said that I would never have a true Tico friend here. He said that he doesn't even have one and he's lived here his whole life. True friends. The ones that you would trust to watch your kids, your house, lend your car, etc. And he was right. I have a lot of people I know and some are close to friends but I don't trust them enough to be friends with them. I have seen so many "friends" here in CR that will sleep with their best friends wife, steal money from them if they have a chance, double cross them, borrow money and not pay it back. I have real friends back in the U.S that I trust with my life. Not many but I thank God for them. This is not a shot at CR or its people. I am married to a Tica for over 15 years. I live here because I love CR and it's culture and way of life. But Friendship in CR has a low bar. Prepare to be disappointed and not be surprised if you are taken advantage of
Your dog is a quality friend…

I think they will skip medical and go recreational, it’s just going to take the right person to make it happen

Man if I could make money online I’d be living there ! The beaches and the people are the best
It’s hard to make friends living in a big city too. Everyone is so busy and the traffic is so bad, it’s hard to go anywhere.
