Yeah he’s got class alright... in deceiving people! See Sharon Wrights story then come back and let us know if you still think he’s got class Simon. The guys a fake
The only people rude or arrogant within this clip were the dragons lol. I hugely respect Eddie for keeping his calm and maintaining his professionalism, which is not easy to do when people are insulting you for no reason. Also the dragons’ issue with pricing is frankly absurd. How can they expect him to release every detail of his business on national tv? Very messed up. If it was private then yes they have every right to know but since it isn’t, it’s Eddie’s right to withhold and possibility inform them either privately or at a later date
Uh, Everytime they agree to a deal? WHAT? How many products have you not purchased because you needed to know manufacturing costs and were worried the seller was making too much money?
Where it is now: Seems like the company was renamed to ChillChaser Ltd. in 2014, and then was dissolved in possibly 2019. It's hard to tell, the last financial statements are from 2016, and Eddie resigned in 2017, but they're definitely not around anymore. 2015 and 2016 financial statements indicate stagnation in assets and a loss of cash. I guess ol' Peter was right on this one, he probably does regret not taking a deal.
Great product, seemed very well engineered and finished. Some people need to understand the correct definition of arrogance. Eddie realised how he was perceived, and apologised. Respect to Him for that. Being subservient is not a pre requisite to negotiating a deal; thats what The Dragons work on (but thats TV for You)
I think they knew he had a good product and tried to manipulate him into thinking he was rude so they could take half of his business. I enjoy watching the dragons but this clip doesn't sit right with me.
You haven't watched enough Dragon's Den if you think they prefer subservient, weak-willed entrepreneurs to mold in their own image. Countless pitches by confident applicants have resulted in bidding wars in the Den. They respect people who can stand their ground and deftly negotiate without being obnoxious, and with realistic expectations.
yeah me too, the pitcher seems like a really nice guy. most business deal details aren't also broadcasted on television so i completely get why the pitcher wanted to keep his figures confidential / behind closed doors. Although when he signed up to appear on dragons den he should've known that those questions would come up.
@@primitiveanxiety7135 "wow I can't believe the guy I bought my heater from made a profit! Disgusting how dare they work in exchange for money!" Nobody cares what products are manufactured for as long as the price they're sold for is fair
@@attoboi9763 The price the buyer considers fair will depend on what they think the margins are. The seller might be forced to have a large margin due to various circumstances of the business that the buyer might not appreciate. It could effect future negotiations with businesses.
Yes and when the guys that made the offer.. one on right said he doesn't like him but investing in the product.. why would the guy want him to invest? Don't work with people that don't like you!
This is ridiculous. His reason not to give his costs was perfectly reasonable, even obvious. What they could have asked him (or what he should have offered) was to write the figures down and show them. That way everyone's happy.
It's not reasonable whatsoever! Contestants all agree to the rules before coming on the show. They must agree to those rules at many points before coming to the taping. When they go against it during the actual pitch, it IS pure arrogance, because they are deliberately being obtuse in order to elevate themselves while still getting free publicity on television. Also, this is business, like it or not if you're going to ask for someone else's money, you better believe they're going to want to hear your manufacturing costs and margins. Refusing to do so is a slap in the face to the investor!
@@WobblesandBean Of course investors are going to want to know the costings! But in real life investors are going to obviously not want any potential competitors to also know the costs. The whole show is pretty much fake anyway. A large number of the "investments" are not actually made in the end.
That was appalling from Peter.. lost all my respect there. " I don't like you so I'm going to need 20 percent more" What kind of an f'ing statement is that ? I'm glad the entrepreneur stood his ground.
At the end of the day, Peter's perception of this man is what matters. While a tv show aspect does seem to give off this objective impression of the man to the audience simply for being a tv show, it's about making a deal with each individual dragon. If Peter feels like he needs more equity to put up with someone he doesn't like, then Peter can do that since this gentleman is coming on to ask him for his investment.
As Eddie said, the price he's charging for the product is based on it's perceived value, i.e. what people think it's worth. He's obviously concerned that disclosing the actual manufacturing costs on national TV may limit what he can charge / will impact future sales. Given that it's a start-up company with very few orders on the books, and from the sounds of his figures a reasonable amount of debt, I can understand where he's coming from. It may have been naive to initially refuse to give the figures (which he did later realise and apologise for) but it was not rude, arrogant or insulting.
Applause to Eddie Middleton! Very good pitch and he knows exactly what he wants. The dragons got upset because they couldn't deal him down. Greedy, probably envious little children. "Don't mess with us or we set an example".
Eddie gave a very good presentation and apologised for his earlier lack of candour about prices. The hostility showed by Theo was unacceptable. Eddie wasn’t rude or insulting. Paphitis was out of order! Eddie is a no nonsense, tough businessman, just like the dragons. James and Peter a massive wanted 48% of his business, a business which he built up single-handedly. I’m not surprised he walked away from the offer! This episode left a nasty taste in my mouth.
I didn't find Eddie to be rude, arrogant, or insulting at all. In fact, he was quite modest. There's nothing wrong in wanting to protect your business. He acquiesced later on. James was the calmest of them all and the most rational in approach. Peter raised some excellent points which Eddie reflected on and provided information on. I wish Eddie all the best in his endeavours. He has a great product.
I think the product is great and I commend him for apologizing for his earlier mistake and righting it. And I also understand why he wouldn’t want to give up half his company. I think it has a lot of potential
There’s nothing predatory about this, the entrepreneurs know what show it is, what it is about, who these people are, and they have come to the potential investors to ask/beg for their knowledge/connections/investment. Nobody is preying on them.
Awful show by the Dragons here. I felt the entrepreneur stayed calm and polite throughout and the Dragons were just beating up on him for the cameras. Their offer was insulting as was their attitude, I'd have happily told them where to shove it.
I don't think he is arrogant at all, there is nothing wrong with debating something. This guy has a great product, and he knows everything about his business. He knows every number and every detail. This guy knows what he has got and is not intimidated by the dragons.
His refusal to divulge his manufacturing cost is justified. It's a commercial product that's already being marketed. Can you imagine what will happen when resellers find out the cost? They'll just pressure him to reduce his wholesale prices to them, and it's not gonna do his business any good..
WoooW!! The Ultimate Burn at 10:39. This guy totally dismisses Deborah. Deborah: Can I interrupt I..... Guy: Thank you for the offer, I am Not Prepared to take the Offer! @@susanwaugh3885 there's always two sides to a story, so always remember that before you judge. There's a reason why not every deal done on TV goes through in reality, it's called due diligence. Perhaps James Caan saw a stinker when he looked at the full accounts 😉
Ali H Ali the deal did go through but just not what it was meant to be! I know about dual diligence. Read up on what actually happened to Sharon Wright, then by all means come back and comment if you wish. They (Duncan and James) took this woman for a ride giving her the false impression they were going to give her the money themselves, however it was given to her in the form of loan by a company called Electro Expo who had sold a stake in the company to the two dragons. You would need to read up to understand the full story as their is a lot more to it. This woman had a fantastic product, had contracts with BT and Schneider, she was and is very credible, and all 5 dragons were really impressed with her. So no, you’re not fully understanding what actually happened. Watch her pitch here on you tube and read the actual story online and what they did to her after their verbal agreement in the den. They left the poor woman very ill. Oh and did I mention Caan has done this before to someone else? Promising money from his own pocket and it coming in the form of loans from someone else?? Well he has and it’s all online. 😊
The whole DD concept is fatally flawed. Pricing and cost information is sensitive, and should be discussed behind closed doors in the real world. All he got was some advertising for his product, at the cost of revealing his data which could be used by a competitor to steal his ideas.
To be honest he was just confident and too protective of his own company for any of the dragons to warm to him. Not arrogance really but a hardheaded businessman.
While I'd agree these folks do plenty of conning.. I'd also say they're outing a con here because saying you don't want to reveal cost prices is essentially saying I want to overcharge people when it comes to selling the product. I get that he obviously wants to make a profit but so many companies are greedy
@@leenolan1469 I do agree alot of companies are greedy, but personally when I've provided information, they stole it for their own purposes and said "we don't need you anymore".
Indeed, giving away half your company is ludicrous no matter how desperate you are for the investment.....and I disagree with Theo's character assessment.....I found him quite a nice chap....he was just defending his position and conceded and apologized eventually without any argument on Peter's advise!
The demonstration to show he will not get electrocuted was crazy. If the safety functions did not work the electricity could obviously travel along the stream of water and fry James xD
One of the most polite professional pitches I've seen and he's personally attacked for not wanting to release sensitive info to the world. What grimy shyl0cks as well trying to skin him afterwards.
I hate these titles. How does that make him rude if he apologies after? Also I hate when they sort of insult the seller after declining an offer and saying that he is in the wrong. Its really manipulative just pure pressuring into agreeing to the deal.
Apologising for an offence does not remove the offence; I’m really sorry that I tortured that man to death officer but I’m very sorry. Oh that’s ok then, on your way son - I’ll clean up the mess.

Peter made him an intelligent offer in the end to test his trust but he turned out to be too flaky
I mean they are the ones with the money, any investors would need to know how much profit per item, are you joking? How are you able to predict if you'll make your money back if they might make 1$ per unit or 100$?
he was trying to say he didn't want to discuss that manufacturing costs of individual items for obvious reasons but he would disclose profit margins generally. seems sensible.

Just me who thought Eddie was incredibly respectful, calm and professional in all his communication?
The only people rude or arrogant within this clip were the dragons lol. I hugely respect Eddie for keeping his calm and maintaining his professionalism, which is not easy to do when people are insulting you for no reason. Also the dragons’ issue with pricing is frankly absurd. How can they expect him to release every detail of his business on national tv? Very messed up. If it was private then yes they have every right to know but since it isn’t, it’s Eddie’s right to withhold and possibility inform them either privately or at a later date
In what world would any of these dragons reveal the manufacturing cost of their products on TV?
If he said that then the dragons should understand that. Maybe he did but the producer decided to not show that.
None of those dragons would be asking to borrow someone else’s money , would they ????

How many products have you not purchased because you needed to know manufacturing costs and were worried the seller was making too much money?
"We find you rude, arrogant and insulting" - People who are often rude, arrogant and insulting
Where it is now:
Seems like the company was renamed to ChillChaser Ltd. in 2014, and then was dissolved in possibly 2019.
The guy could have made a lot before it failed. Although that’s unlikely it’s still possible.
They still have a website called chillchaser.co.uk, with these products on sale. Maybe they changed the underlying Ltd name for whatever reason.
They have many products on their website now.

They respect people who can stand their ground and deftly negotiate without being obnoxious, and with realistic expectations.
the dragons lost most of my respect here.

theyre also acting like drama queens.

Right on man he just didn't want to say his production cost on television, it could mess with his relationship buyers and him have.
yeah me too, the pitcher seems like a really nice guy. most business deal details aren't also broadcasted on television so i completely get why the pitcher wanted to keep his figures confidential / behind closed doors. Although when he signed up to appear on dragons den he should've known that those questions would come up.
@@primitiveanxiety7135 "wow I can't believe the guy I bought my heater from made a profit! Disgusting how dare they work in exchange for money!"

This is ridiculous. His reason not to give his costs was perfectly reasonable, even obvious. What they could have asked him (or what he should have offered) was to write the figures down and show them. That way everyone's happy.
Resonable ? Lol it wasnt that big of a deal with the numbers , and still not wanting to reveal it. Now , that is covering up. A guy u cannot trust
@@WobblesandBean
Of course investors are going to want to know the costings! But in real life investors are going to obviously not want any potential competitors to also know the costs. The whole show is pretty much fake anyway. A large number of the "investments" are not actually made in the end.
I agree. he could of wrote it down on a piece of paper and gave Peter the figures. Not rocket science is it.

What kind of an f'ing statement is that ?
I'm glad the entrepreneur stood his ground.
Very rude, but probably wanted to get more percentage anyway, because he liked the product
He lost the company in 2019.
Right
He's asking for a large investment. It wasn't avoidable and he should have understood those figures would absolutely be expected.
Every single pitch I’ve ever seen on Dragon’s Den talked about cost of goods sold
It certainly doesn’t “jeopardize” anything
Applause to Eddie Middleton!
Very good pitch and he knows exactly what he wants.
The dragons got upset because they couldn't deal him down.
Greedy, probably envious little children. "Don't mess with us or we set an example".
I don't find him neither rude, nor insulting...

They (Duncan and James) took this woman for a ride giving her the false impression they were going to give her the money themselves, however it was given to her in the form of loan by a company called Electro Expo who had sold a stake in the company to the two dragons. This woman had a fantastic product, had contracts with BT and Schneider, she was and is very credible, and all 5 dragons were really impressed with her.
