    That's a treasure video on UA-cam coz I've seen a lot of people struggling with that . Thanks Jeff.

    I went into a wall modeling process thinking it'll take me ages to find a relevant video. Instantly helpful and it turned out much easier than I thought. Thanks!

    Great video as usual, but I have a possible correction/asterisk about curtain walls and doors & windows.
    At 17:05, you said when you create a storefront, you can't put a door or window.
    This is only true if the storefront if not imbedded on a wall.
    If it is, say you make a cmu wall then add a curtain wall storefront to it, you CAN add a door and window.
    I did not realize it was possible, happened by mistake, but I am able to repeat it, revit 2022. When you add the door, or window, it even adds a mullion next to to the door window.
    I did this as a placeholder for my doors at storefronts on a project as I was not ready to start modeling/adjusting/adding grids, curtain panel doors, unpinning panels, etc.
    After watching this video, I made a similar precast wall type and you CAN embed it into a wall to then add the doors, but it weird embedding a wall into a wall, good to know though!
    I can imagine there would be issues with demo/phasing if this was done, did not experiment much more.

      I am not sure what you mean ?? It doesn't matter if the storefront is embedded or not... if the panels of the curtain system are PANELS (like the glass curtain panel) and not a wall type then you cannot put a wall hosted door IN a curtainwall like you normally would... I just tried it in 2022. Unless you mean using a wall type as a curtain panel like I am showing here?

      @@TheRevitKid It could be that you are doing it in a 3D View?
      That is the only reason I can think of that its not work for you but it works to add them in a plan view. just tried in in 2022 prior to posting my comment, didn't want to be wrong.
      I opened the default arch template, in a plan view, created a generic 8" wall, then created one of the OOTB curtain types over the wall I just created, in a PLAN view. This creates the OOTB curtain wall, with the glass panels, mullions etc, with a void cut out of the wall as you know(embedded).
      Then I simply just use the door or window tool , again in PLAN view, and I CAN add windows and doors.
      Like I said, it also works if curtain panels are walls like in the video, so you have a wall embedded over a wall condition I described.
      Thanks for responding!, must respect for all that you do and teach.

    Hi Jeff, I have a few questions:
    1) why don’t you use the Autodesk Precast plugin for dividing the wall?
    2) if you play with curtain wall, can you just use the empty material (like air) for mullions?

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  2 роки тому +1

      I’ve never heard of the precast plugin but it was asked about different methods so that is what I showed. 2) you can’t have an “empty” mullion only an empty panel. PS- I didn’t delete your second comment not because I a felt it was advertising but because I felt it was not relevant to this video. Cheers!

    For the door at the panel joint, does the curtain wall let you cut with voids? Could you make a generic model as a void and cut the wall to get the void in the other side of the door?

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  2 роки тому +2

      Why would you need that? When using the curtain wall method you are using a WALL TYPE as a curtain panel and then simply using wall hosted elements on it. So any wall hosted family functions will work.

      I know you have had a reply to this, and they have not quite grasped your question.
      The answer to resolve the door joint issue is as simple as joining the two panels, this will not work (and autocut the secondary panel) if you have mullions, so you will need to turn interior mullions off first., join the two walls, unjoin the two walls to make them appear to be two panels again, then turn the mullions back on.
      All this and you will still have a mullion down the middle of your door, so the answer to that new problem is, should mullions be visible at your model Level of detail (ie could you just turn them off?) or could you introduce a vertical dummy mullion to remove the section below the door head.

    Where a door is hosted by a wall in a curtain wall between panels, why not host a door structural opening family on the adjacent curtain wall panel and modify it's geometry to match the intended.
    It will mean you'll need to exclude those structural openings from the schedule.

    Jeff did you try using "join" on the last part of the video with the door. It takes the openings of one wall to apply on an other, high chance it works here

    Great video but I have a question.... if you have a composite wall of multi layers, how to make the mullions grid cut in the exterior layer only not the whole layers, because the grid cut the whole wall in sections? like for instance, if you have a composite wall that consists of interior finish layer, structure core that is brick, insulation material and exterior finish layer that is going to be concrete cladding panels how to make the grid cut only the panels layers?

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  Рік тому

      Thanks! Easy…. Just make two walls… Using a separate wall for veneer is pretty common in Revit, actually.

    I wonder can you join the walls so the door is connected to both panels?

    You can delete a segment of the curtain grid so that it will become just one panel

    How can I create a wall like this, just like the one in the image?
    casavivaprefabricadas.com.br/images/13-full.jpg
    These plates usually have a standard measurement. That adding the two pillars and the plate reaches 1 meter by 2.75 meters (5 plates)
    In less developed countries, these houses are very common.
    How could I create a panel (or wall) that was easy to model the house and gave me the right amount of pillars and plates to use?
    Would you help me?

    • @TheRevitKid
