That is a really nice looking hull. The one I have right now feels way too wide, this one looks much better. I may have to try this one. I've been thinking of printing the boat out of LW-PLA and then coating it to make sure it's waterproof. Should save at least half the weight but might also make it a lot weaker. Guess it's a project for the winter then.
@@rcprinter One thing I didn't consider. You can't really print LW-PLA much faster than 30mm/s so printing this will take something like two weeks if I don't need to print anything else meanwhile. May take a bit longer...
@@rcprinter Printed the hull (5 parts) and it came out as 411g. Feels really light. It's also watertight but I have my doubts if it can take any hits, even from waves. So I'll probably end up adding glassfiber or something on it.
@@Qwarzz That's really cool. You should do a video on it, I'd love to see how it turns out. I wonder if something like plastidip rubber spray would give it enough rigidity and add to the water resistance. Or maybe even painting it with resin without adding the fiberglass might work.
The glue I used is a CA (cyanoacrylate) glue like superglue with a spray activator. I use one called instant bond which is easily available at the hardware stores here in Canada but there are lots of CA glues around.
Without a battery it weighs very close to 2kg but that includes all the electronics so I'm not sure what just the shell alone weighs. It took 5-6 days of continuous print time.
Thank you so much for the video, I'm currently building the same model. My first build ever, and needed some help. What do you spray on the seems after glueing the parts together?
What is the name of the piece you use to avoid water to get in from the steering rod? And what do you use to make the hatch watertight? Thanks in advance! Nice video and awesome boat! You just earned another subscriber!
3650 (540) brushless @3100 kv. If I were to build it again I'd consider going with something a little longer like a 3660 or 3670. I have all the electronics listed on the thingiverse build page here: www.thingiverse.com/make:1055214
This was printed on a Prusa MK3s. I don't remember the exact settings but the walls aren't super thick on the model so I think mostly just ended up being solid at a .2mm layer height and probably 3 walls. All printed in PLA except the motor mount in PETG.
Thanks man! The decals are just simple waterslide decals printed out on a regular inkjet printer at high quality setting and then sprayed with clear acrylic to hold the color. Everything is printed in pla except for the motor mount which is petg.
I used clear water slide decal paper from Koala (off Amazon) which can print out from your inkjet printer. It works well as long as you seal it with a clear acrylic spray.
hello I made the boat in 3d printing did I install a thermal engine in it there is no risk that the ceiling please thank you cordially I am waiting for your return
Thanks for the tip, good to hear from someone more experienced with boats than I am. I'll try and get the nose to ride up a bit as per your suggestions.
This is just a cheap CA glue + activator from Canadian Tire called "Instant Bond" but you can get a similar glue at pretty much any hardware store I think. Just look for cyanacrylate (CA glue) with a spray activator. Superglue is a type of CA glue.
For this I used a CA (cyanoacrylate) glue with a spray activator. The specific name of the one I used was "instant bond" which is really easy to get here in Canada but they have similar stuff everywhere. Superglue is a CA glue and would work fine but I like the ones with the activator spray so you can get the joints perfect and use way too much glue and then clean up excess glue with paper towel before you spray it to make it solid.
@@rcprinter For structural parts (like the hull of the boat), I recommend using epoxy over CA. I use medium CA and accelerator spray like you for everything else.
@@neilpowell7938 yup, I added a seal around the top cover but otherwise it's totally waterproof. You gotta glue it really well with lots of CA and then I think sanding/painting helps a bunch and silicone the parts that screw onto the stern. I havent had any issues with leaking.
Once I get the watercooling in I'll take another look at upgrading the motor. Just built a 3D printed catamaran with a bigger motor... video coming soon!

@@rcprinter I might. I'm pretty terrible at this video stuff so no promises.
i think building the boat with a waterjet (wich wouldnt be a very big change to the design rn) could help with speed and controll
Nice looking boat! I just printed one and was wondering how you made it watertight. Is paint thick enough to make it watertight?
Yes, no issues with leaking.
What are you spraying on it after gluing it. Resin, epoxy?
The glue I used is a CA (cyanoacrylate) glue like superglue with a spray activator. I use one called instant bond which is easily available at the hardware stores here in Canada but there are lots of CA glues around.
