Tape your pickups if you decide to use steel wool, but I wouldn't.

Yes! Shrapnel + magnets does not equal a good time

Dunlop makes a specific fretboard cleaner, honestly that, a microfiber cloth and some elbow grease will work for almost everything. If a fretboard is really gross scrape very carefully with a razor blade parallel to the frets, along the grain (not for finished fretboards). If you keep your guitars in good shape usually just its biannual conditioning will keep it clean and healthy (also cleaning and conditioning are different but they usually go hand in hand).

Murphys oil soap or just some simple baking soda paste similar to what used for jewelry.

I just used furniture polish on the frets rubbed plectrum down the frets a tooth pick down the sides a quick hoover and a bit of olive oil.Next time I will probably give the fret wires a polish with a polishing mop on the dremmel.

Lemon oil or grape seed oil for me but apparently any wood keeping oil should work in theory

I use Murphy's wood soap and q-tips. Then I tape the frets before and after the fret wire with masking tape. I then use 00 steel wool to clean the fret wires and then I use polish to get them to shine. I then remove the tape and use a lemon oil and beeswax on the rose wood.

Just saw a video that I fell in love with, person used oil soap ON THE STEEL WOOL and scrubbed the gunk off the frets using the wool as an abrasive to help the oil work! So not one than the other, both together! I’ve never seen anyone else do it that way but it makes so much sense! I imagine whether you use oil soap, lemon oil, a water based soap, alchohol, naphtha, etc, doesn’t matter as much as the idea of using the steel wool-or a card scraper, whatever your using for physical abrasion-to use it wet in conjunction with your cleaning solution, rather than dry.

So I use Mansons citrus oil (designed FOR guitar fretboards don’t kill me) but that’s from a local guitar store near me, but it works wonders. I’ve had my basses years on the stuff and the fretboards are still as healthy as the day I got them, plus some ware and tear from playing of course. But I don’t see why Dunlop lemon oil would be any different! Honestly just try different stuff and find what works for you and your fretboards!

Oh God, stop! Ok, you use Windex to clean it and the rest of the guitar as well. Then you use fretboard conditioner, you rub that in with your fingers and wipe it off with a paper towel.

Pretty sure(not certain) if your fretboard dries out too much, it can cause cracks and damage.
