I ride public transportation almost every single day here in Vancouver and just to see how much work goes into cleaning the buses and the Skytrain, thank you for bringing us along Mike!
Transit is the ONLY way I get around town. The part that I like the most is when I get on Skytrain or bus on a hot day and there is air conditioning. Oh, that feels good!
Wow, it has been a long time since I’ve been on transit. When did they get AC? I have never experienced that
@@brassy49er37 well, the newer bus have it. sometimes it depends on the bus driver too.
What exactly is your definition of a hot day?
@Romanome yeah but can you SLEEP at the same time? 🙂
@Romanome you are risking your and other people's neck. Yikes!
Hey Mike! It was great working with you on this video. I really appreciate you going behind the scenes to show our company's dedication and commitment to keeping customers and employees safe!
Hey Mike. I didn’t realize how much cleaning goes on on the buses and sky train. It’s good to know they have our backs cleanliness wise. Have a fun week.
I don’t live in Vancouver but I like being in the articulated parts of buses and light rail trains.
I spent a week in Vancouver last month and was truly impressed at the cleanliness of every single SkyTrain or bus / trolley we took to get around. Translink can be proud of their work!
I live in Montreal and the contrast was absolutely stark when we left SkyTrain at YVR, then got back to YUL and were greeted with a dirty-ish #747 bus that lead us to a dirty-ish Lionel-Groulx Metro station, in which a newer Azur train picked us up. That Azur train had obviously dirty/dusty windows, as did every train we saw along the way. Clearly, the STM is taking some shortcuts with their maintenance.
For a tourist like me, even a video like this is an invitation to travel, especially when I hear the little voice from the skytrain. She reminds me my vacations in Vancouver. The "Ile de France", the region where is Paris, has invested in Bombardier, and sometimes we can hear that little voice in english, the same kind female voice. By the way, I invite you to hear her when you arrive at the terminal station YVR, the way she says it, it's like "Bon voyage".
Bombardier Transportation no longer exists; Alstom bought them earlier this year.
I can honestly say I have never even thought about what is involved in keeping the transit systems clean, especially post Covid. Thanks Michael for another interesting and informative video and thank you to all of those workers that do the behind the scenes work to keep everyone safe.
I rode the Skytrain back in 1985 when you could ride it from Main St to half way down Terminal.
Now I live one block away from the Skytrain yard in Burnaby.
We have the BEST public transit in all of Canada.
you know why I love this channel... its so upbeat and full of positive vibes ! another great video Mike 🤓
I appreciate that!
Very interesting! Who knew someone would have so much fun cleaning a bus and the workers sound (because you couldn't see their faces) very proud of what they do.
Yeah, great observation Tim. They really are proud.
@@DownieLive Would be interested how they clean under the TransLink Seabus! Haha - just joking!
Mike is the best host! It hardly matters what the subject is. All these videos are a breath of fresh air. Cool!
It would be amazing if Translink lets you observe the tunnel boring once they start digging for the Broadway skytrain tunnel. Or even just visiting once of the stations while they're building it.
If you really want to visit you could try calling them up and inquiring. You'd be surprised what you can be allowed to do if you just ask.
I think that they are taking videos of the process. they had done it for other projects before.
You know you're in Canada when even the signs on the bus apologize! 5:36
Great Job!! Thank you Translink workers! I always noticed and admired how the skytrains are always so clean! (compared to other cities) you make our commute more enjoyable!
Every Saturday when you post a video, I say to myself that this video can't be as entertaining as the previous videos. I am amazed EVERY week how good the videos are. Thanks for keeping everyone informed and entertained at the same time.
Riding these every other day, and seeing them in a different POV is such joy!! Appreciate all the operators for the hard work! :)
I really appreciate this content, I am heading back to Vancouver and have been really worried about sanitation in public transit. Your video relieved some of that stress :)
Big thank you to all the public transportation workers across Vancouver metropolitan area. They really have done a fantastic job over the last year and a half.
We actually intentionally did not take the Skytrain unless it was absolutely necessary but that was not because we felt unsafe, it was so that others who had no other option would be safer and have more space. Ultimately fantastic job I always felt safe when I did use public transportation and looking forward to being able to use Vancouver‘s excellent public transportation more again!
Thank you for this video Mike......and a big thank you to all who are involved with keeping the buses and trains so clean!
I just love this channel. I was a working holiday guy in BC in 2010 and never went back. This is insanely brilliant to take me back there.. Sky train and the stops and everything really delighted me to say the least. I have a huge list of things I wanna see. Wow just wow your there at ground zero and doing this.
Wow, Vancouver's TransLink really keeps their mass transit clean. Much more than New York City's MTA subway trains or buses.
Fun and informative 😄 always a nice thing to thank the people who work for the transit system.
Mike: Yet another reason why Vancouver is a safe place to visit. You have done a great job. Vancouver is on our list of places to visit. Keep it up!
I love these behind-the-scenes videos, Mike. Keep up the good work!
Hi Mike! I discovered your channel about a year ago. So excited you’re still in the game!
Yes! Right on, Scott. I'm glad you're still here!
I remember riding the bus wash and going under the busses at VTC when I was 8! So cool to see it all again
Cool behind the scene and well Explained !! Vancouver Transit is on top of things for sure! Nice~!
Quite impressed, very clean public transit.
It is so amazing to see the behind the scenes cleaning at Translink especially when the Millennium is the line I mainly take. Great work Mike!
The behind the scenes videos are my absolute favourite! Keep making them! :)
Great you got to show us this. I went through the wash rack with one of the vintage buses you toured on a previous video.
Thanks Mike.
It looks like they have a really efficient system in place for cleaning and maintenance.
Congratulations Mike on this behind the scenes coverage. It truly shows how much care goes into ensuring passengers are safe on their daily commute in these troubled times. I had to chuckle when you got carted off to Commercial-Broadway because you didn't get out of the train quickly enough. Great coverage of the wash facility at Marpole too. Angus (from your Burnaby Vintage Bus Tour) had me on a tour of that facility straight off the plane from Gatwick back in October 2018. I was a little jet-lagged by then. Now I do hope BC Translink have given you a free Yearly Compass Pass for producing such a great video. Cheers from Melbourne.
Who’d have thought have thought watching cleaning was such fun. It’s quite satisfying to watch.
Thanks to all the hardworking staff behind the sky train scenes! And thanks Mike for showing us behind the scenes.
You’re videos are so informative I’ve learned so much about my city since I found your channel
I'm so glad!
This video shows behind the scenes everything that we all take for granted! Impressive how quick the crews are. Thank you for the informative video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is legit my favourite channel I've found in the pandemic. 10/10
👏to the specialty 🚆cleaning crews! DownieLive again highlights "Gems" in the traveling circle; this time people are the Gems! Thank you Mike! Beth cheerfully Subscribed in NW MT
It was great that you pitched in and didn't just film the regular workers doing it. Stay cool through the unbelievable temperatures I'm reading about in Vancouver,
Great videos man! Thanks to you I’m putting BC on my must travel list and using your videos as my travel guide!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
You absolutely make my Saturdays, because you keep coming up with these great videos. Thank you for showing us around the "hidden" part of SkyTrain. Michael, keep rocking it.
Great video Mike. You always make the most serious job sound like fun. Keep on doing what you do.
Another stellar video can't wait for the next one ! Keep up the great work Mike
Everyone rocked!! Thanks for doing all that cleaning. Mike you did a great job!! Good video, as usual, have a good one!
Hi buddy . Great video . Thank you for showing us the amazing work they are doing to keep us safe . I use Skytrain monday to friday and I like individual chairs . Waiting for the next video . Cya!!!
i only ride the skytrain maybe once every few years. And when I do, I stand for the entire ride. I lean my shoulder against the wall to maintain balance. I avoid touching any handles or poles. I lean my body against areas where very few people normally touch.
Love individual window chair
I like to sit at the front of the Skytrain, of course. That's my reserved spot 😉 and i sit at the very rear of the bus on the side. There's this nook where you can extend your legs
Hi Mike, n thanks for yet another GREAT video upload by Mike and the DownieLive channel! :) ♥ :) ♥
Besides thanking you for another terrific video, thanks for bringing some much needed attention to the little known, not so talked about, hard working people who work every day n night behind the scenes to not only keep the trains people of Vancouver ride in clean, but who also work to keep them free of germs and other nasty things.
Please keep those positive vibes you give off in these amazing videos, and the amazing videos you upload, coming!
Mike Downie can make even cleaning entertaining, informative, and interesting! Thanks Mike!
“This is a childhood dream I didn’t even know I had” Mike Downie 😀 LOL
Glad you enjoyed it!
my husband has driven tour buses for over 20 years and I don't think he's ever been in a bus wash!
😂😂
@@DownieLive that shows how Downiie is learned and well introduced.
Is his bus very dirty, then??
@@cmartin_ok nah, it’s just washed by hand.
3:34 the change in aspect ratio when you're told you have four minutes left: a minor edit, but one I genuinely enjoyed, thank you for that!
I'm a driver at VTC
I've never realized what I'm missing with the bus wash
Another great episode sir
This is such a fascinating video and really great stuff they're doing over in Vancouver. Well done!
Thanks Seth!
A Bus-wash! Very cool Mike. Have you ever been to Boston? Our old Green Line train cars are articulated because they make about a 70 degree turn in one spot.
He kinda looks like a ghostbuster with the green backpack!😂😅
The front of the skytrain windows are always dirty!! There is a fine line between saving water and doing it to the point where the trains don't look like they get washed at all
I live 5 minutes from the bus wash, that's so cool!
Way to go Mike👍Never miss your videos & the good vibes you sent to your viewers. Your avid subscriber here watching from Mississauga, On.👍👏😷
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome as usual, Mike. However, I had half-expected something on the tragic devastation in Lytton this week.
You SERIOUSLY rock Mike!!! Big shoutout n THANXZ a mill to you for all your energies, effort + time n ALLLLL - that you do to put out these fantastic yet FUN videos MIKE!! Ps, the bus wash would be so exciting for myself as well!!! ;) jejeje juss sayin! jeje
Keep up the excellent work my friend ! Share, share, share lots ! 🤭🙃
Thanks for this video, riding everyday on skytrain with fave middle seating with more room to view
Fun! Calgary Transit runs open houses occasionally and I got to go through a train wash! It was pretty neato!
True story, I was on the lrt heading downtown from delhousie and a girl a couple seats back couldn’t hold her bladder and pee’d well the train was in motion. When the train stopped all the urine rushed forward and we had to run
Thanks for the awesome vid! When I used to transit out to UBC my fav spot on the sky train was right in front of a specific door so that when it opened I could be first down the stairs to catch the 84 from VCC out to UBC 🤣
Thanks for sharing. Clean system you have out there.
I hope they are still doing this type of cleaning now and has not stop doing it. I like sitting in the single sitters when I ride the Skytrain.
I enjoyed the behind the scenes video on how the staffs wash both the skytrain and buses. Very informative and clear. For me, if there's a seat i would sit in the individual seats on the expo line, if not i stand by the handle in the middle, not touch the handles.
I live in California, but when I am in Vancouver my favorite seat on the skytrain is the one in the very front.
Finally, the first comment to mention the front seat on the skytrain. Unbeatable view!
I always had a curiosity, how do we get cleaned up buses and skytrains and how would they do it, today I got all my answers. Thank you downie for sharing such amazing insights on how the cleaning is done. And respect and a special thanks for every worker working to provide us with a clean transit. Thank you once again!
Awesome job Mike and Matt. Now I really want to move up there and work for Skytrain. LOL Keep up the great work guys..
I like to stand in the accordion part, just leaning against the wall.
Your videos make me wanna be back in BC so bad. Going to enjoy my time on the east coast until then. Great video
Even tho I don’t live in where ever this happens at I gotta say their service for doing that stuff is impressive
Vancouver is a good system, on my vacation when i went to see the milenium line, the milenium line seems like its home to open ends on track, i suspect these might have been old terminus, or abandoned extenstions, really unique
Love the behind the scenes of Translink vehicles
05:55 AMTRAK Needs to put these in their Chicago Union Station! ( To start! ) Can you imagine looking outside and NOT seeing diesel soot, water spots, bird poo, and all else!!!
Nice to see this stuff was already being done, and the Skytrain team has just stepped up their frequency of cleanings.
Bus washes are fun. Is there a train wash? Or is that done by hand?
There is. Similar to the bus wash.
I like the individual chairs
Mike glad they had room on their team so you could work beside them.
You know you rode the skytrain too damn much when the announcements make you nostalgic XD Hope the heat wave eases off for you guys soon
I'm always impressed at how immaculately clean the buses and trains are in Vancouver compared to some other Canadian cities. Puke and sticky floors on bused and grime on the subway is common in Montreal, and some of the cars are still from the 60s although we see more and more of the new Azur ones. And Vancouverites still complain! They often have no idea how good they have it there 😄
Ive been taking the STM to go to dawson for 3 years now, the transit system here is fantastic!! AC Electric busses, State of the art AZUR trains, all clean and efficient...idk what year STM youre talking about haha
Coming to Vancouver in a couple of months, hope to see you there
Hi, Mike! It was cool to see how everything GOES when People are not around👏
My husband rides a bus in lisbon and nothing works so well... Congratulations👍
I have a question: it was Matt, your editor, that appeared fast in This vídeo??
Stay safe and see you soon!!🙋
This is cool the way they clean buses with they sprayer thing is kind of like what we use at my work
I cant wait to be there Mike. Looks amazing
😂 Yaaasss!!! Work that orange overall!!! It's great to see you having fun. 😂 It's also good that you're able to DO the work too. I'm happy that Translink allows you these behind the scenes look - that's very nice of them. P.S. I like to sprawl out like a star fish ⭐ when I'm on transit - you know - take up as much space as possible. 😏 P.S.S. "See ya!" is my catch phrase! 😲
Love it. Thanks for giving us a peek into behind the scenes with Translink. Liked, Subscribed. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you!
So many things I learned today! WOW Thank you! Looks like you had fun also.
You bet!
I’ll be in Vancouver in 10 Days
Can’t wait to try all of your city-based recommendations!!
I've lived in Vancouver my whole life and I've found some really cool spots thanks to this channel! Hope you enjoy the city
I take that skytrain everyday, never thought I would be entertained by watching a video about it but here i am
Best video ever!
Thanx Mike i love these vids. U put so much love into all ur vids and that is why i yust can not wait for a new vid. Thanx again and i can not wait to see were we are going next😁😁😁🍁🇨🇦.
My favorite place to sit is either at the front or back or in the individual chairs lol
Sometimes I take the Skytrain from King-George to Waterfront just for fun, although I wish that Translink would put more effort into their bus services.
You lost me at "favorite position...."🤣 But seriously, when do you think you'll be able to travel again? Luv Vancouver but miss the traveling aspect. Yes(!) always say thank you when exiting the bus! So simple n can brighten someone's day!🌞
I go on a sky train daily. It’s actually pretty fun! Also I live in Canada. To be precise, Ladner bc. Wish they have sky trains but atleast handy darts, community shuttle and bus.
I like to sit in the single seats but if there's none, I sit in the double seats. If there's nowhere to sit i'll lean on the bars cause i'm still paranoid about touching ANYTHING. Props to Translink's pit crews
I would love to see more cleaning videos on how public transits do it
