    This is very helpful, not enough content creators talk about this.
    My last visit to Japan, I had the JR East Pass for 5 days that cost me Y30,000, but I took Y50,000 worth of train trips in those 5 days.
    For my next trip next year, I plan on getting the JR West All Area Pass which cost Y26,000 for 7 days. I already planned an itinerary that will maximise the use, so far Y50,000 worth of train trips.
    The JR wide Pass isn’t worth getting anymore to me, I would rather explore one region at a time and maximise the use of regional passes there.

      Thank you. Yes, I think regional passes are still great deal especially for using Shinkansen.

    Thank you Ken, with the price rises to the JR Pass coming we were just starting to look at the regional passes and this is a great summary for us to start with.

    I think I will plan my next trip to Japan around one of these regional passes to save money. I did the Golden route the first time. Now the question is what region next. There’s so much to see!

    So these 'Regional Rail Passes' won't see a price increase yet, right?
    Great video! I like the sample itineraries a lot. It's hard to know how much you can realistically see in 1 day.

    This is a great video. Most of the tourists would not know about these. Does it make sense to purchase one of these over and above the JR Rail Pass?

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  Рік тому

      Figo san, thank you. There are many different passes for tourists from abroad, but it seems the most people go for JR Pass now. I think with current JR Pass price, JR pass is pretty competitive. However, if you stay in certain areas long, there are some cases a regional pass or combination of them are better. :)

    Great Video! I will be arriving in Tokyo late November. So if I want to travel from Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and possibly Hiroshima area, which 7-day pass would be ideal to purchase? We prefer riding on bullet trains.

      For this November, I'd recommend Japan Rail Pass. But you need to purcahse from agency by the end of September. My other videos might help for more details. Another well organized and informative video. A helpful solution to the increase in cost of the popular JR Pass for foreigners! In fact your section about the Kansai Wide Pass confirmed that our plan to it for our upcoming trip in October is a good one! We are looking forward to visit Amanohashidate and using the Hello Kitty Shinkansen to visit Okayama from Shin Osaka. We looking forward to seeing more such videos! For example more details on riding the Joyful Trains would be great!

      Kevin san and Dayle san, thank you again for your support for the video! That sounds like an amazing plan using one of the JR West pass. I think any of the pass would be great and I would buy if Japanese could purchase. 😄 I'd love to cover the joyful trains if I have a chance. Thank you always.

    This is such a great video. For my next trip to Japan I would love to explore western Japan, and was thinking of doing a loop with the Shimanami Kaido. The last two trips I bought the JR all area pass because of it's convenience, (I loved that I could be more flexible with trains and how long I spent in each place). Now that the prices have increased 70%, it doesn't make sense to use it.
    I would likely have to fly in and out of Tokyo. It seems that flying to Kyushu or Hiroshima and backtracking would make the most sense, but I'm really upset I can't take advantage of the shinkansen. Originally my plan would be to start in Tokyo->Kyoto->(Koyasan)->(Himeji)->Onomichi->Shimanami Kaido-> Matsuyama -> Ferry to Hiroshima -> Itsukujima -> Osaka->Tokyo. Now it seems that might be too expensive, and I have to think about how many stops I can make. :(

      @tokyokenchan  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for watching. I watched your good-bye video a while ago. That's great you are visiting again. Yes, in that case it might be better to by one or two of the JR West passes as their price don't go up that much in October. For between Tokyo and Kansai, it might be better to get separate tickets of Shinkansen as flight is not really reasonable to ITM and KIX is quite far from Kyoto. They are getting rid of wagon service from Shinkansen too. :(

    The regional passes are a good idea, but they are for such short amounts of time. If you want to really see a city or an area you would maybe do half the itineraries in the time given by the passes. Like if you want to spend more than a day in Nagasaki or Beppu then the value of the pass is less appealing. For realistic travelers, who want to actually see places and not spend all their time on the train, these passes could be worth it, but you have to do a lot of math and probably buy 2 per area. I'm having to rethink my travel plans and maybe not see as much as I had planned.

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  Рік тому +2

      Thank you for watching. Yes, as I made this video, I found out you need to enjoy train itself to get the most of the pass. If passes were for 7 non-consecutive days, travelers could spend more time in each local area. You are right we need lots of math for this. :) Kyushu is also good with rental car.

      @@tokyokenchan I was thinking of doing a car rental, but I'm used to driving on the right side of the road. Lol. Maybe you could do a video about driving in Japan since every UA-camr seems to focus on trains.
