Aside from the ludicrous point scoring system, this was classic touring car racing. 500hp monsters, drivers constantly fighting the wheel, cars sliding through Corners and incredible racing. The battles between Andy Rouse and Steve Soper were fantastic. Born into the wrong era of BTCC racing.
Most upsetting awful situation for Rouse that puncture cost him his 5th Championship & importantly a championship with the Rs500 a car he developed & supplied/maintained many on the grid also. Fantastic achievement Rouse got a championship in a Sierra Xr4ti but a huge disappointment he didn’t again in an Rs500. Rob Gravett deservingly did in 1990 & a fantastic send off for the Rs500. Certainly something about this era & cars that connected the gap between the enthusiast road user & its competition counterpart. That is exactly what is lacking IMO with current motorsport series. Straying away from Group A & leaving manufacturer’s to compete in badges special cars does not do it for me. Motorsport lost something here & unfortunately it will never be the same. The Sierra Rs500 IS the most successful Motorsport car in history & what an amazing machine. Wish I had one.
9:14 Cleary 100% driver error by Sytner. When he pulled our to pass that Corolla he started to oversteer. The other M3 had nowhere to go as he was collected by Sytner. back in the day i always loved to see those battles between Soper and Rouse.
Gteat stuff, Murray was a legend, Demon Tweeks it says on his car, and thats a Demon Tweek lol😂!!Scoring system was bonkers, thankfully they got rid soon after. Steve Soper would have won a few BTCC titles, if he would have raced the full seasons, i suspect DTM took priority.
I reckon Frank got that angry preparing a bowl of cornflakes. He spent the first half of ‘89 punting Weaver off. An almost comically aggressive driver.

They sure don't make 'em like they used to...
Dumbest points system in history, and took them far to long to drop it, how B and C class drivers could have a shot is ridiculous...

Let’s be honest here, Mike Smith wasn’t a very good teammate to Frank Sytner. Don’t think we ever saw Frank that angry than he was at Snetterton.
I reckon Frank got that angry preparing a bowl of cornflakes. He spent the first half of ‘89 punting Weaver off.
