- I'm so ecstatic to be able to show you the Antwerp gorilla group! As some of you might know Matadi the Silverback is Ozala’s Son! It was amazing seeing him at Antwerp Zoo with his own group, especially seeing his cute baby daughter Thandie and I’m really looking forward to being able to share all the footage that I've got with you over the next few months! (Always on a Thursday).
The first video is a collection of small clips of the gorillas at the Antwerp Zoo. Don’t worry this is just showing you the gorillas, there is much much more to come! As I was only there for a few days I concentrated on Matadi, Mayani his mate and their daughter Thandie, but I also have a couple of videos of the other two females Mambele and Amahoro. Thandie I have the most footage of for obvious reasons, she’s just cuteness overload! Matadi I tried getting as much as possible as you can get from a Silverback and of course, he’s the reason I took the trip as I wanted to see and show you Ozala’s big boy. Ozala can be so proud of her boy. He’s got a beautiful family.

Matadi, Mayani and their daughter Thandie sitting outside. Thandie is a real explorer and hardly anything could keep her still. A close-up of the cute Thandie inside. When you’ll see Matadi behind the climbing frame… you’ve got Amahoro on the left and Mambele sitting on the log.
When Matadi has his Salad, he’s joined by Mambele just behind him.
Just after the close-up shot of Matadi, when he walks away, did you notice anything? That little leg kick? Looks familiar? :-)
You’ll see a little clip of Thandie and her dad, but that is just a fraction of what is to come!

The Antwerp Gorilla Troop:
The Silverback Matadi: Born on the 25th of May 2003 at the Twycross Zoo in England to Ozala and Ti. Ozala, as many of you know is still at Twycross Zoo with her family. Ti passed away on the 26th Feb 2007, the cause of it was a stroke.
Mayani ( The Mate of Matadi) was born on the 6th of December in Barcelona. Mayani got moved to the Antwerp Zoo in 2017 I believe.
Their daughter Thandie was born on 26.11.2018
Mambele was born in Hanover Germany on the 21 Feb 1999 and was moved to Antwerp on the 22nd August 2011.
Beautiful Amahoro is I believe an Eastern Lowland Gorilla born in the year 1990. She has a stunning deep black coat without any obvious single grey hair. At 160kg she is a very powerful female. In comparison, Oumbie weighs 190kg!
Sadly Matadi passed away on the 9th of October 2023, leaving his young family behind. Such a gentle giant. RIP Matadi. You won't be forgotten. Antwerp Zoo wrote cause of death was "due to a double respiratory infection (COVID-19 and Bordetella) with additional complications."
Funny, I was watching the video and said to myself, "this gorilla looks like Ozala"! I sensed the resemblance and then read your notes! Goodness, the similarities! Thandie is sooooo tiny and adorable. And, Ha, ha, ha....that kick you were talking about! Now we know where Lope got his swagger!😂😍🥰

I can just picture our Lope with his own group. I would love to see if his babies will be as silly as he is!

The Silverback Matadi is still young. I immediately realized this, because comb on his head is too small yet. But he is a very handsome silverback. He's got his mother's looks :)

Absolutely adorable family. I love all Gorillas and enjoy seeing as many as I can keep up with. Thank you many times over for sharing! I have many Gorillas at the top of my Computer Bar so I can get my fix !!!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful family. Now I have anthropomorphic visions of Ozala holding a brand new, but severely Lope-chewed up iPhone, and calling her daughter-in-law to say "that's right, relax and enjoy the peace while you can, because once they master neck control and knuckle walking skills....let me tell you about one of your brothers-in-law..."
I like that they have a large tree for shade! The shade helps the family to relax. The baby is so cute and adorable! Thank you for sharing!

Thandieee the explorer😍...matadi resemblance of ozala sideways but i was staring his eyes i can see lope round cheeky eyes.that kick though like master lope,lope used his left leg all the time when he get excited or being cheeky😆.
When I saw him first I thought, that was my first thought, he got his looks from Ozala. Especially when he's serious. 😊
@@SloggerVlogger matadi always look serious and he frown a lot like ozala.but his eyes i can see lope on him,shufai and okanda strong resemblance so far but i cant find latest video of okanda.i wonder if okanda and tano still together.thank you for tge updates of matadi,its hard to find matadi family video.👍🙇♀️

I like their habitat so much better I think the other habitats we're Lope is should at least put some trees and some brush
Twycross Zoo hasn't done anything with the enclosure because I think they got plans to build a new enclosure, but it's going to be a while yet until we see a change.

It kinda surprises me a local greenhouse or horticulture place hasn't donated plants for the enclosure for them....or....one of the royals hasn't, since Kate is really into that sort of thing (did you see her garden she help develop?)….or Megan & Harry donate time & money to spruce up the habitat....since their into Africa. Sure would be nice of them to do that.

Matadi seems to have the same walking gait as Lope and they never met each other. Must be genetics.
