I saw him sing this complete role in Chicago, and in this aria his applause was tremendous and well deserved. He was an Illinois native and a wonderful Lyric tenor. RIP.
@@afahsieh172 Do you sing better when you are mid age than you were young at prime? Do you know any lyric tenor that sings stronger at later life than their prime? He was sick and died of sickness, but he still had great voice even before his pass.
J. Hadley. a treasure who passed too soon. I am grateful for this. and i no longer know what language i speak. ma..mille grazie Virginia Abrahamse for sharing w/us. it is trop beau.
Very expressive and passionate. A most wonderful interpretation indeed. A great 'find' and one that will remain with me for some time. So expressive as I have said and full of detail to delight his audience with facial expressions and hand actions perfectly in accord with the song. . Puts the current European 'stars' to shame as being soulless and almost robotic .... Only Mario Lanza can compete with this level of dedication and artistry.....
beautiful beautiful rendition. as good as anyone. I love his very delicate pianissimos that contrast with his bright forward voice. I heard him in Cosi fan Tutti back in the early 80's in St. Louis before he was famous. He took the house down, he was so amazing. He was such a superlative Mozart tenor.
One of the greatest renditions I have heard! Not only the voice but the acting of what he is really saying with those words. Makes one believe in what he says...
One of the greatest renditions of all time we know of, of this extremely known, yet many a time so far from such a sensitive and brilliant interpretation.
This is his best version of Una Furtiva Lagrima. No struggling. I saw one with Japanese subtitles. I think he was in his dark times by this time. You can feel his command of this aria in this clip. Thank you for posting!
Really amazing to find such an amazing singer existed. He had the most beautiful voice and good expression like Placído Domingo. I always compare with Domingo because he is my favorite tenor singer. Nobody could win him. But Jerry Hadley is too special to decide who is better.
Hadley's career spanned the late 70s to the late 00s, barely a generation ago. And yet the kind of tenor singing he typified is all but gone-a fully developed chest voice taken all the way to the top and a head voice employed judiciously yet still and all anchored to a strong chest voice. None of the "mask" buzziness, none of the nasality, none of the tight squealing. None of the sounds you hear from today's supposedly good tenors. Just free, clear, ringing tones. What a loss.
@@santisramos5832 te falta oído si no notas lo nasal que es Lanza. Se nota bastante en su interpretación de Una furtiva lagrima, por ejemplo. Pasando la zona del pasaje.

People coughing at concert... Shut up with your damn coughing! Why do so many people cough at concerts?? If you have a cough and you must go to a concert, just bring a pocketfull of cough drops!!!
Just beautiful... but may I say: Don't go to the friggin opera/symphony/play if you have a FRIGGIN COUGH!!! Gah! I can't tell you how many open mouthed coughers there are at these things. It's so distracting when you're there trying to experience such beauty. At least if you have to cough smother it as firmly as possible in your arm or something!
Andras Schiff left the stage after playing a short Bach piece, saying he would return after everyone got their coughing under control. Big cheer from most of the audience. When he returned, there wasn’t a cough or sneeze or snort for the rest of the recital.
What a great tenor: this voice, this technique, the change of piano & forte, his articulation - you can understand every word...
This is by far the greatest rendition of this aria. His technique and his artistry is simply in a league of its own. RIP Jerry.

Unique singer!!! A musical genius!!! Incredible!!!! Out of this world!!!!
Agreed. I listen to others but come back to him.
Absolutely magnificent, Jerry Hadley at one of his best performances.
Chapeau!
THIS IS FINE SINGING!!! MOST MEN DO NOT SING LIKE THIS TODAY!!! FOR THE EXCEPTION OF A FEW!!! IT'S ALL ABOUT PROPER TRAINING!!!!

Fine singing ... beautiful face ... healthy ... naturally
Good technique, and he certainly knows how to sing, but this is just all over the place musically. Not how you sing belcanto.
Jerry always delivers, his timbre, old school technique and finest artistry.... Love + Bravo!!!

Comparing to so called 3 tenors... yes, Jerry was so under appreciated, deserves much more. Maybe the last old school tenor from USA...
So easy-flowing, caressing voice! Love it.
