Wood Carving for Beginners

- In today's video I use spalted hawthorn to create a wooden cross for my godson as a Christening present.
This is an easy whittling project for beginners that doesn't require specialist tools.
Three years ago I bought a field as an ecological project to help to support the biodiversity of the area. My channel tracks the progress of the field as I build an orchard, learn new skills, and explore how the field would have been managed in the past.
I am not religious but the simple, handmade cross of wood in my opinion holds more truth than the opulent gold in all the churches.

I prefer to make jewelry, accessories or knives myself or have someone else make them for me because they will be made with soul, will be unique and will have great symbolic meaning.

I was going to mention putting on a glove, glad to see you did! Nice job. I use Walnut oil on my wooden cutting boards, knife handles, spoons and spatulas. It basically makes them waterproof.
