Let's fly a VTOL

- Just a quick video today, trying out a VTOL craft I received from a friend. This is my first time trying anything VTOL, so it's been pretty fun playing around with it for the past few days. It's got me considering a new build just for a change of pace, and a new challenge. Something new to learn! lol

I fly like you do , mostly cruising enjoying the scenery, I am building a Ranger T1 vTol, with a Matek vTol 405 in it. What is of interest from your vid is that 26amp peak during transition and the 10 amp cruise draw, mine is 4s not 3, I am more used to 2-3 amp cruises on 3s, so this will be a curiosity for me!.
That QRTL auto landing is MENTAL isnt it!!!!, cant wait.
MANY thanks for posting it, the info is invaluable to us, Matt Australia.
Thanks! Yeah the lack of efficiency has always been somewhat off putting for me, I like to cruise around a bit most of the time... lol Flying this one makes me want to build something a bit more capable in that respect. I considered the Fimi Manta, but I'd get the PNP and fit my own FC/GPS since theirs has no official target in AP, and no compass onboard either. I like the flight times I've seen people getting with them. I'm not sure if the T1 VTOL will match it, but it will be a fun project either way I think. I'll likely just focus on that one for now, then go from there... lol I've already got a F405-WSE in mine and a good GPS with compass, it should be a relatively easy conversion.
A nice Ardupilot upgrade, from toy to full featured VTOL. Your friend did nice work converting. The transitions are really dialled in.
Damn, what a smooth airplane, Keith! It flies amazingly! 😃
I imagine flying something like that from my garden! 😂
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Last time I checked, replacement nacelles for the Convergence were still available. Fitted to a more efficient airframe, they could be an interesting option in a more convenient size segment than the Ranger T1. I feel the choice of airframe was what let the Convergence down - it was so inefficient that you gained little or no flying time over a pure multirotor, just a world of complexity. Thanks for the demo, it opens great possibilities through the replacement nacelles!
Henry has always been a great contributer to Ardupilot project. I have followed his AR wing VTOL conversion and it was successful. Thank you
Very smooth mate! Looks very nicely setup indeed!
The transition into forward flight was very smooth...best I've seen TBH. Looked a great day for testing it M8...So, it's an HD T1 Ranger vto project coming up, should be interesting..!!..😮😀😀🇬🇧
I still fly my 2 VTOL convergence and I also I have the mini. ! of the vtols i added Inav flight controller on top of it.
My interest has been peaked as well. That looks like a good introduction to VTOL.. Under FPV, I didn't get the sense of how it scoots along at transition.
Yeah it's fun to watch it transition. Amazing stuff! lol
That is so sweet, best transition I've seen 👍👍
I tried the Jumper Xiake but it is on hold at this moment. The one I got was barely flyiable, the controller was crappy. I replaced it with a Matek 405 VTOL but wasn't able to make it work and I'm waiting for INAV 7 to try again.
Nice..... Looks a little like my (RC Radio Only) X450 VTOL.
If you get the chance, try a flywing 450 v2.5 or 3 soooo nice I just converted mine to a bell 222 ( airwolf )
a very interesting film, not only through VTOL but also a nice analog image, what is the camera and VTX?
It's an old 600TVL camera, I think the model was HS1177, Foxeer sold them some time ago. The VTX is a TS58400 with a pagoda antenna.
Interesting.
