she is the best character in whole movie. Watched it today.
Agreed, she was excellent... Far better than the others in my mind.
I would beg to differ. Almost all of the cast was from UK. Benedict Cumberbatch played Dr. Strange very well especially that fighting scene with rachael mcadams (christine), and kaecilius was played by a great actor mads mikkelsen. so was baron mordo played greatly by chiwetel ejiofor. Bendict wong was great too. I'm just saying this movie was filled with great actor and actresses. Tilda is one of the best one, but do acknowledge others too for truth sake.
Yes, she knocked it out of the park. Would like to see more of her character.
The whole cast. One of greatest scenes, dialogue-wise, was when Strange calls out the Ancient One for tapping into the dark dimension and then Mordo blasts away at Strange.
I am Asian and I cannot see anyone else in this role. She IS the Ancient One.

The Ancient One stole the show for me. Never cared for many of Swinton's roles, other than Gabriel, but what she did in Strange was so effortless and genuine and flowing. I hope she's in any second movies.
I love her! I don't fancy superhero movies, but I might actually see this one solely for tilda. I'm Chinese and I know abt the whole casting controversy, but it's hard to complain when it's tilda. :)
She's magical! That's why she's often cast as magical creatures: Jadis the White Witch ("The Chronicles of Narnia"), the angel Gabriel ("Constantine") and the Ancient One.
after watching the movie I can say that nobody else could have played the role .. perfect in every sense..and the movie just really something.. they kept faithful to the original comic and aesthetics... I love this film more than any other Marvel movie

First noticed Tilda in 'Constantine'...was totally blown-away with that character...and when she showed up in Dr. Strange...I was blown away yet again. Doubtless it'd wear her out...but I kinda really wish the MCU would've given 'The Ancient One' her own (stand-alone) movie. I really do. Preferably something filmed in the northern region of Scotland, showcasing Celtic/Druid-influences (maybe film the construction of Stone Henge or Newgrange ?) maybe even find a way to inter-sect with ancient Norse-God legends PRIOR to Thor & Loki...because modern-day archaeology has proved that ancient-civilizations (prior to Vikings) had a role to play in how people came to be, in Britain & the Emerald Isles.
I needed more of her on screen she was so beautiful !!! And god can this woman act her butt off ! Shes fabulous !!

Despite the "controversy" which i find is an absolute exaggeration based on cheap nonsense, doctor strange is one of the most entertaining and brilliantly made movie. And As for Tilda Swinton,i have always been a huge fan of her and her works,it is so much fun watching Tilda playing as the ancient one, i don't think there is no one better to portray this enigmatically whimsical character. As for BC,CE,BW,and MM and the other casts, marvelous job,tots. It was totally worth my time.

if this was an ethnically black character being played by a white one, people wouldn't be saying that. but if its a matter of representation of South Asians who are literally never showcased in Hollywood since asia is apparently only east and south east asia, then it's cheap nonsense. I admit she played the part well but what irked me was that despite a significant amount of the movie taking place in Nepal, there wasn't ONE south Asian character, not even any minor side character. Imagine if a movie took place in a region that was ethnically black in majority and all the characters were white, or if there was a movie in high-class Victorian era England, and all the characters were black, there would be a lot of uproar. that's all my point is

As a bald Asian (because of alopecia), I'm thrilled that they make her look so cool bald! Her blond lashes make it look like she doesn't have lashes, which is also an alopecia thing. So I appreciate it. More badass bald women in Hollywood please!

ok first of all, today is her birthday so happy b-day Tilda! 🎂🎉 and now, I know there was a little controversy with her casting for the ancient one, Idk the details of it or what were fans complaining about but I just think, (and hardcore comic book fans will hate me for it) I think they need to chill! Tilda Swinton is such a great and respectable actress, she's unique, out of the box, mesmerizing, hugely talented and mind-blowing! I saw her in many different roles and allways loved her performance. she's quality ensured and can make it real good and I was happy to know she was going to be part of the MCU. idk but hardcore fans should stop their preconceptions, prejudice and bitching about everything, this is a CINEMATIC universe it doesn't need to be exactly the same as it is in the comics, these are adaptations to the screen and it's my humble opinion that so far, these movies and performances are being pretty much respectfull with the original creation, arc story and characters. of course I'm not the carrier of reason here this is just my concept and opinion but I know there's people who's with me on this one

I was upset at first cuz i remember reading the original comics and I want The Ancient One to be Tibetan but given the current political climate right now, it just wasn't feasible. Besides, Tilda Swinton just crushed it. If it had sucked that'd be a different conversation but she pulled it off and I couldn't be happier.

I think I've seen her in Chronicles of Narnia but anyway this is a really good movie. Probably my favorite one ive seen this year. I love the fight scenes, the casting, and the overall plot was just a masterpiece. If you haven't seen this movie, you should find a way to get to the theaters ASAP

They left so much room for The Ancient One to be such a powerful force and huge character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that I really want too see this version of The Ancient One in more films. Her death in the Doctor Strange movie gave Thanos a way in too Earth. I really hope she's brought back in the future. Her fight scenes in the movie were the best part of the movie. Especially the opening scene.

She would've been a good Dr Strange as well. She was perfect as The Ancient One. The writers didn't want that stereotypical old Asian dude. For example. In the film. Strange approaches the asian guy on the yard. To his surprise he finds out that he wasnt the Ancient One.

Marvel's reasoning for race-bending The Ancient One is as shallow as the dog that ate my homework, and by mouthing it, the production is insulting and patronizing those who question them. Swinton is a fine actress, but I fault her for taking the role for which she is grossly and positively miscast, and for swiping an economic opportunity for another, most appropriate Asian actor.
If you bothered to watch the movie, she's not miscast at all. The role isn't an Asian role, as much as Heimdall wasn't a white role. We don't need another Asian mystic anyway.
Well, Heimdall was always portrayed as white in the comics. Just saying.

The race-bending is an obvious give to minorities, not that I mind it here and there really. The comics were largely white-biased, and yeah, it's a sign of the uglier times. For Thor movies it seems to have worked with Heimdall. I can't imagine anyone else in that role, now. I'm not a fan of how they swapped out the human torch in the FF movie cats-astrophe, though. But then nothing would have rescued that mess.

Or they took one look at Idris Elba and didn't give a toss about race. I completely agree, I'm white as they come and I even have Scandinavian ancestry and I say this Heimdallr is the best thing about the Thor movies. Don't even get me started with FF. That was a waste of life to watch.
