Mercury 175 XR2 Impeller, Jet Drive repair

Welcome everybody. Today i have Mercury XR2 Jet Drive 175hp to repair for our boat. I decided fill the impeller by welding. I think this is the easiest way to fix it. First i've centered main ring and cleaned surface appr. 0,5 mm. After this i've checked clearence between ring and impeller. It was appr. 2,5mm. Next welding impeller blades and surface by lathe :). What are you using for a mandrel to hold the impeller is it just an old shaft?

Hello, no, i made 3 cm fitting shaft from piece of steel on my lethe and then i pressed in impeller by lethe horse. This guarantees centricty. In impeller is small space without teeths inside from back side. Its very easy to do.

how did it run after was there any balancing issues with the impeller after?

I doubt the rotor was balanced before, in fact it's still in my garage, the boat is in Gambia, Africa and we don't have the engine yet. It is difficult to buy this engine in Poland. But we have one now, and we will renew it before shipping to the Gambia.
