figuring out the "3 point losses" of last year was a key point coming into this year.. this will be a good game to try another kicker and move on to next up... sorry but there will be a game when that three is needed...
I’m in a weird position here. I was Tristan Alvano’s soccer teammate and classmate since middle school, and I also have a true freshman cousin playing DT for UNI. Tristan is primarily a soccer player, so much so that through March or April of our senior year he told us he had no interest of playing football. But after 4 phone calls and multiple visits from coach Rhule he finally was convinced to play. He an extremely confident person and I think this is the 1st time he hasn’t been dominant in a sport, much less succeeded. I’m probably biased because of our history but I think he lacks some mental experience other people at this level have, and if you stay patient with him (not necessarily kicker #1) I’m sure you’ll be happy to see someone with his confidence and boot on this side of the ball. And it sounds like UNI is not only hungry for this win, but also confident. That locker room isn’t backing down from this game, more the opposite, I think they’re hungrier for this game because of the stage. And this is a locker room of guys who isn’t completely ignorant of the Husker game day experience. Ps. I’m not saying benching Tristan is the wrong option per se, but it will have no impact on his performance since it’s not a motivation issue it’s a performance anxiety issue. He needs a 1 on 1 psychologist Tldr; Tristan might not be kicker #1, but he has performance anxiety so benching him won’t make him better, and UNI is excited for this game not nervous
This is my main concern right now too, the kicking game. We end to fix it fast or we will lose to someone we shouldn't. Also WRs need to block better and run more crisp routes. But I'm sure that's easier to fix than kicking.
Let’s stop the “can we beat Ohio State” talk. These guys look great but we haven’t even beat a big 10 team yet. Until it’s clear we can handle Illinois, Purdue, and Indiana without issues, we shouldn’t even worry about OSU. Let’s focus on beating teams like Wisconsin and Iowa consistently before worrying about beating national title contenders.
Facts!🔥we have looked good so far but like you said until we start beating those mid tier Big10 teams we shouldn’t even be thinking about beating Ohio St.. GBR
I met with the brother (younger) of UNI starting QB !. He told me just last week that the team has been preparing for NU and been watching a lot of film !. He thinks it will be an upset , and I told him “may the best team wins”. He goes to a lot of private practices for UNI and he says Nebraska is hopefully prepared for some things that UNI has for them . I think Nebraska will cover the spread and they’ll be Hungry for this game moving on to the Game I’ll be at next Friday vs Illinois. GBR.
I’m so glad you mentioned all the problems we had in the second half but it also could’ve been all of the penalties were just throwing both teams off. with that being said, I think you’re a little aggressive on the score especially if they do heavy rotating like you said I see it more of a 34 to 14 but we’ll see you made some great points. I agree with everything that she said, I just don’t know if it’s gonna be that high scoring of a game.
Its happening again, PFF has our left and right tackles with pass block grades in the 40's. Benhart is 44.6 and Corcoran is 49.7 after 2 games. Now, 49.7 is an improvement for Corcoran and so I guess I should see the glass half full with him but Benhart is concerning as he is 22 grade pts below his last seasons overall grade. This reveals what we are getting at the edges in protection and this has to improve in Big 10 play or the teams with strong edge players will eat us up.
There are 3 parts to every placekick. The snap, the hold, the kick. If any one of the 1st two are off, the kick is easily screwed up. Rhule even talked about trying a new snapper. I'm not convinced that Alvano is the real problem. Our snaps have been really poor. Go back & look at the PATs. Even the FG made against UTEP the snap was bad. Buschini made some great plays to just get the ball down. Alvano is focusing on a specific spot when he's ready through the kick. IF the spot is offline just a little bit (fwd, backward, left, right), he can miss the kick & it's not his fault. Alvano probably does have things to improve on but neither he, nor any other kicker, will make many kicks with consistently poor snaps & challenging holds. People tend to look only at the kicker but it's not all on his shoulders.
I am glad you talked about the recruits who came last week. Do you know about the NFL scouts? Were they only here for Colorado? I hope not because I think Huskers have plenty players to show their skills. I predict similar with UTEP and let starters a break since it will be a short week. Also, it gives more looks at other players.
Look at the bright side; Alabama plays Wisconsin this week, then they get a bye week. Then they play Georgia. Here in Nebraska, I'll be happy with 6-6 and a bowl win.
Based on snapping issues per Rhule, I think Alvana gets another look. Lol, I predicted the same score you have. I think Johnson gets more RB time but Dowdell is going to get some passes this week so we are less predictable with subbing in the backs.
I’ve always loved the huskers and since I’ve been a student at Iowa St. I’ve learned that Campbell never uses the full playbook against UNI bc it’s always before cyhawk
Connor, I think there is a ton of motivation, but on the other side of the coin, we reached such a high against CU that anything outside of that game, the motivation won't be the same. I predict 32-18, NE
Emmitt leads team in rushing. Carter Nelson and Keelan Smith have a good. Game. Haarberg plays well and shows growth as a quarterback, and we win 51-0.
Ok, so side question i keep thinking about, what happens when Tony white leaves? No more 3-3-5? Lose recruits that follow him? Just curious for the inevitable, as always another great video brotha💯 GBR
UNI's QB is not bad at all, i could see him being an UDFA, I think they play a lot better than we could think. I do beleive that this big red team will be ready for that, and will take care of buisness. I got the Big Red rolling this Saturday evening, 45-14
So true about the field goal game. I don't know at this point if Alvano will ever pan out. How many times can he fail and us give him another chance? I think that Emmett will be the rushing leader between he and Gabe. Heinrich for over 100 is a long bet.
ESPN took their score win amount off the board so I think this shows the score is what Nebraska wants it to be. With our D we will get field position on almost every possession.
So long time subscriber, but Connor - what’s with the plants behind you? The strands on the right make sense coming from the plant. But where are the strands coming from on the left? Confused.
I think har will get a good balance of run and pass. He will get 100+ if we play good enough to put him in. Gabe will have more yards in this game if they get down the depth for them to play. And Alvano will still be kicking this game. If he has hiccups again this game, I can see him being replaced for Illinois.
Classic trap game scenario. I see UNI running lots of clock to reduce the number of possessions and plays run overall and that might keep the score closer/lower than a lot of people are expecting. I have a hard time seeing anyone other than the very top-tier offenses in the country consistently sustaining drives against our D to put up points, and I can't imagine a scenario where UNI's secondary can hang with our receivers enough to avoid some big downfield shots from Raiola getting home. Once we get a decent lead, I expect a lot of power football from Haarberg and the third and fourth RB's on the roster to get to the finish line quickly and move into the short Illinois week and Big Ten play. I'll go 31-7 on a prediction for the final.
I am so happy the Huskers won against Buffalo, but based on the sloppy performance in the second half of the Colorado game, I don’t dare to be too optimistic for the rest of the season. A couple of big plays were wasted because of penalties (I’m not pointing fingers at the refs; that’s just part of the game). Against every conference team, you must play gingerly through the entire four quarters.
We need to fix the penalties issue and send Alvano out to try a 50 yarder to build his confidence up. Because that’s all it is. A question of confidence.
Score 38-10 1. Haarberg Less than 100 pass yds 2. Emmett Johnson > Gabe Ervin yds 3. Alvano starts and only if he misses does Hohl come in (Alvano doesn't miss)
I think the starters will play a majority of this game. I belive it because we have bigger games upcoming. Coach has every reason to do it too. He's been harping on perimeter play and these starters have gotta get it rolling for the upcoming schedule. Idk just my thoughts. #GBR
The only teams that I think can score consistently on our d are usc and ohio state. Last year we lost because are offense simply could not score. I think if our offense can score between 20-30 points every game we will win. I think the defense can keep every team we play besides usc and ohio state under 20. Although even usc we might be able to choke out.
I feel like in the first quarter and maybe second quarter the number one offense is going to work on better better crisp wide receiver quarterback timing. And as long as they are doing better at that they will be out in the third quarter. Dylan has been going through his reeds faster than the wide receivers have been getting through their routes so he's ready to throw it and they're not at their spots yet They need to run faster. They need to run the routes on every play like it's the last play of the game to win a game in the national championship game. I'm sure that there's more people that can kick that are enrolled in college that were soccer players or played football in high school. If I was one of those students I would possibly think about talking to the coaching staff. When my cousins were at Lincoln I was in the Kroc center with them punting footballs cuz I was a punter at Wayne State before. Some other people there said that I should have tried out for the team.
UNI is a solid team. They do a lot of the little things right. They dont beat themselves, they force you to beat them instead. Nebraska should win this game, but it is the most classic trap game setup I've ever seen. This game will tell us about coaching more than the team.
Here is the question for the Corn Crazed Nation. I cannot find an injury report anywhere. Other than the preseason injuries, have there been any significant injuries from the past two games? If not, that is a significant change from previous seasons where we are into the third game with no injuries as a result of gameplay.
I'm skeptical of any passer, except Raiola. Best to run heavy with 3rd team back. Only Dylan throws. And no one should throw the swing pass cuz it never works! I didn't think it matters who NU pts in, I think they'll play beyond expectations, they play and practice vs NU 1s.... Good kit lately, winning is what it's all about. Maybe I'll join if i figure out my parlays.
HH+100 yds passing. They will want him getting live passing reps. Emmet 100+ yds, leading rusher Alvano comes through, ends that story/ answers that question.GBR!
Woww..Didnt know UNI running back#2 Ty Edwards is out of Omaha transfered frm Kansas..He may play with a chip on his shoulder but Blackshirts will dominate and spoil his homecoming..GBR!!!!
You are close, Connor. You must think the inevitable FG attempt will be no good (Rhule will be incentivized to try the FG on 4th down unless it is very early). I think Hohl trots out there and makes a 45 yarder. The scrubs can't hold the shutout. Nebraska 52 UNI 7
Can anyone recommend a youtube channel that shows full game replays after the game? Trying to find a way for a buddy to watch that lives in the middle east.
Hot take: NU isn't rated because of what they did. They're rated because of the major upsets across the NCAA. CO lost 9 of their last 11 games, they are no better than UTEP. We don't deserve a 25 spot yet on our own right. But how we're playing will get get us there.
Alvano will be 2 of 3 on FG's on Saturday. Although it's too early to talk about this, Coach Rhule and staff should give some serious thought on recruiting a new kicker this off season because Alvano is NOT in a Sophomore Slump.
9 or I'm thinking maybe ten wins. 10 or 11 w bowl win. Illinois will tell us a lot. I am predicting a W, when that happens hopefully, I will feel good about my season prediction.( Will feel Better about it, feel Good about it now.)
The way Rhule coaches is nameless/faceless opponent.. 1-0 every week.. I would expect nothing less. The process is the same. That’s the point of the process. They will come at guns blazing. GBR
We haven’t earned the right to talk about our overall record especially 9-10 wins! I’m just glad we are 2 games in and we are not talking about moral victories and next year! GBR🌽 win the week
Tristan needs to stay in....hitting a couple, or missing them will still add experience...sitting him out, may cause him to doubt himself...not good...just my opinion.
My head is always on a swivel because FCS and non-power 5 schools are taking out FBS/Power 4 teams at an alarming clip the last few years. I have concerns becasue we have not really been tested yet against a Big 10 type offensive scheme but I trust Rhule, White, Riola and Robinson. I don't believe Riola or Robinson will let us for a second take Northern Iowa lightly. I want us to pour it on in the run and pass game and show NI they have no business thinking they have a chance. This is a game to light it up, GBR!
What's your final score prediction for Northern Iowa week??
Nebraska W 48-0
A lot to a little 😩
55-3

We need to be cautious. UTEP lost its second game, and Colorado is suspect. We cant get over confident.
I think we shut them out and see scores from 1st 2nd and 3rd squads. At least that’s what I hope. No starters in 2nd half.
52-0
Shut out would be awesome!
49-7 means no field goals made. 😮
Final score this week is 45 to 6.
Kicking seems a last resort for this team. The only thing they will hurt NU is throwing picks.
Better not lay an egg vs UNI
31-7. Still a 7-5 season. Maybbeeeeeeee an 8-4.
Expecting anything less than 8 is just being a miserable ol Husker fan. Anything less than 8 is an abject disaster.
Facts
9 or I'm thinking maybe ten wins. 10 or 11 w bowl win. Illinois will tell us a lot. I am predicting a W, when that happens hopefully, I will feel good about my season prediction.( Will feel Better about it, feel Good about it now.)
I really want Alvano to succeed, but thus far, this season looks like last.
Who gonna kick our place kicker got pulled too and rhule said there has been snap issues
The way Rhule coaches is nameless/faceless opponent.. 1-0 every week.. I would expect nothing less. The process is the same. That’s the point of the process. They will come at guns blazing. GBR
Rhule has a great philosophy!
We haven’t earned the right to talk about our overall record especially 9-10 wins! I’m just glad we are 2 games in and we are not talking about moral victories and next year! GBR🌽 win the week
41-10.
starters out mid 3rd Q
For the algorithm
🌽❤️
Huskers 55 UNI 3
Connor, if we win this Saturday…we can finally say we beat Iowa (okay fine *Northern Iowa) 🤣
Halfway there!!
Don't overlook Indiana .. they're actually pretty good
I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re only a 1 loss team that week!
56-10 GBR.....There will be fewer penalties
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Idk I think I’d bet on NIU beating UTEP if they played. 38-7 NU
45-7
Tristan needs to stay in....hitting a couple, or missing them will still add experience...sitting him out, may cause him to doubt himself...not good...just my opinion.
I had a horrible dream, that Riola was sack bad and out after the first quarter. Hope that does not happen
😟
My head is always on a swivel because FCS and non-power 5 schools are taking out FBS/Power 4 teams at an alarming clip the last few years. I have concerns becasue we have not really been tested yet against a Big 10 type offensive scheme but I trust Rhule, White, Riola and Robinson. I don't believe Riola or Robinson will let us for a second take Northern Iowa lightly. I want us to pour it on in the run and pass game and show NI they have no business thinking they have a chance. This is a game to light it up, GBR!
35-14.
NEB: 14 7 7 7 = 35
UNI: 10 0 0 7 = 17
Its not Friday night its Saturday night
Illinois is playing Nebraska in Friday night
If I were coach…. I’d be playing the missed field goal by Norte Dame and them losing the game to NIU over and over and over again.
Haha great idea
21 - 13 Nebraska wins.
Na bro. Our special teams are terrible..
:(
They need to figure out what is going on in Alvanos' head.
Forreal
Don't listen to these pesky N fans. I believe y'all can put up a game. It's hard to beat a great football game, isn't it ?
Picks kill wins... What has history shown?
Nebraska has a HUGE letdown in this one and pulls a Notre Dame...UNI takes Nebraska behind the woodshed and beats em down! 30-7. UNI.
🤣 I would be MORTIFIED
I think rhule has these boys right and I don’t see us blowing a game like years past
No way, Rhule has em locked in now 🏴☠️🔒
