This song is about how people treat celebrities like they're not really human. "I'm just like you, you're like me, imperfect and human are we" indicates is about how just because Melanie is a celebrity, that doesn't mean she's different from us. She's a human too and she's just like us and doesn't deserve to be treated any differently. "There are strangers taking pictures of me when I ask no more" is about how people take pictures of her without asking and apparently it's viewed as acceptable just because she's a famous celebrity.
Yeah and like "celebrities can't have bad days, etc"
"Harsh words if you don't get a pic with me" in 2016 april "fans" were taking pics and videos of her without her consent. She said "It's one thing to ask for a picture, but to just take pictures of me is kinda weird", APOLOGISED, said she doesn't feel comfortable and excused herself. The guy taking the video posted it online and SHE got a lot of backlash and insults for it.
Please I beg, watch the K-12 videos in order since all together its an entire film starring and produced by Melanie. It's truly one of her best works and every song has deep meanings and metaphors. This album is a lot of fans favorites. But truly the entirety of the films and albums story is powerful. I hope you guys enjoy her!
Even though I like the album Crybaby more.. I have to agree that K-12 is truly a masterpiece if you watch and listen to it at the same time.

In an interview with Alternative Press Magazine, Melanie revealed that the song was written back in March 2017, when she was performing at Lollapalooza Festival in Brazil. She stated that she was alone in her hotel room, having the feeling of isolation, and being mistreated as a human; she decided to sing and make a voice memo of it, singing only the chorus part.
Similarly to Dollhouse, the song is about how celebrities are portrayed as 'perfect' by the public as well as how they're treated in the music industry. The lines, "Harsh words if you don't get a pic with me" and "There are strangers taking pictures of me when I ask "no more", also speak on an incident from 2016 where Melanie stopped fans from taking pictures of her without consent.

Im so excited for you guys to get through the K-12 era and hear her most recent album as well. all I'll say is that the formulas feel super refreshing and you can REALLY see her growth. it focuses less on calling out issues in society (for the most part) and focuses more on a personal healing journey. it doesnt feel as "circus-y" either, so maybe you'll enjoy that album more ?

Show and tell us such a good song on the k-12 album, if your starting the k-12 album def recommend either Detention or Highschool Sweethearts, those are super good (imo) but if you’re going back an forth between albums also recommend Pity party or Carousel, genuinely just love y’alls reaction videos nonetheless !
