  • This recording was made by Richard Tucker (1913 to 1975) in 1967 and it is a musical setting written by Albert Hay Malotte in 1935 of the biblical Lord's Prayer.
I hope that everyone who listens to my channel will enjoy this but it's particularly for Shicoff1 who was a friend of Richard Tucker and suggested that I upload it.

Thank you Michael for posting this beautiful rendition of the Lord's Prayer.
I have always loved it and wish it was sung in church as a Hymn more than spoken as a prayer.

Beautiful version indeed. I'm not religious but this song always gets to me and I had it played at my mum's funeral. She was a Lanza fan (like me). Thank you, as always, for posting X

Thanks for listening Ron, I'm glad that you like it. I'm not religious but I love religious music. Shicoff1 who was a good friend of Richard Tucker recommended this one to me and he is also a big fan of Mario Lanza and even had tea at the Lanza's house.

@@michaelmcgrailengland I'm the same, mate. I've never been, and never will be religious. However, there's just something about the sincerity and beauty of this kind of music that gets to me. I don't care for Bocelli, but his version of this (2009 Kodak theatre) is incredible. Tucker was fabulous though but I'm SO biased when it comes to Lanza, haha

Many thanks for the post of Tucker singing this and really so well, and with your many many fine pictures of tenor Tucker, "plus the one just after Tucker sang Tosca with Mario Lanza", who had as Tucker's guest, attended attended that 1958 Tosca performance, both men where in London at the time, Lanza singing concerts at Albert Hall and Tucker in performances at the Covent garden opera house in Tosca.

It's a pleasure, I'm glad that you like it. I thought by his expression on the photo that he might be rather wishing that Mario would shut up.

@@michaelmcgrailengland No way, in fact when Mario found out RT was singing there he called Tucker and they arranged to have Lanza sit in the box with Sara Tucker, so not to draw attention Mario sat IN THE BACK OF THE BOX WHERE HE WAS NOT AS NOTICED. Lanza loved both Tucker and Jussi as favorites in his time. CONT. Below:

Mario was THE ONE TO SUGGEST BEING SEATED IN THE BOX WHERE HE WAS NOT AS NOTICED AND IN FACT AS RICHARD AND SARA TUCKER TOLD ME LANZA WANTED TO TALK ABOUT AND ASK QUESTIONS OF MARIO RATHER THEN HAVE TALKED ABOUT HIMSELF! HE ESPECIALLY WANTED TO HAVE TUCKER TALK ABOUT HIS EARLY CAREER AND GETTING HIS START FROM HIS BEING A JEWISH CANTOR AND THE OH YES, TAKING ONAS AN OPER SINGER.THE TWO MEN GOT ALONG SO WELL THAT THEY ANDTHEIR WIVES TALKED ALL NIGHT, UNTIL ALMOST DAY LIGHT AND WHEN THEY SAID GOOD BYE AND PROMISED TO GET TOGEHTER AGAIN WHEN BOTH WHERE IN THE SAME CITY SINGING ETC.CONT .BELOW

I MEANT TO SAY ABOVE THAT LANZA "WANTED TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT TUCKER AND DID NOT WANT TO, TALK MUCH ABOUT HIMSELF WITH THE TUCKER'S" .HE SHOWED GREAT RESEPCT FOR THE OLDER TENOR AND IN FACT ASKED SARA BEFORE EVEN GOING TO THE OPERA TOO HEAR TUCKER , HE ASKED WHAT TUCKER LIKED TO EAT LAT EAT NIGHT AFTER HE SANG, YES, HOW HE WANTED HIS EGGS PREPARED ETC. LANZA ALSO KNEW TUCKER LIKED A COUPLE OF DRINKS TO RELAX AFTER HE SANG, CONT. BELOW.

SO BEFORE THE OPERA RT SANG WITHMARIO AS HIS GUEST , MARIO ASKED SARA ALL THOSE QUESTIONS AND IN FACT THE TUCKER'S TOLD ME LANZA WAS TOTALLY 'MODEST' AND "VERY WELL SPOKEN", IN RETURN ML TOLD MARY AND TONY ON THE PHONE WHEN HE CALLED THEM FROM LONDON,THAT TUCKER SANG EXTREMELY WELL AND HE LIKED RT AND HIS WIFE, AND HE, TUCKER IN TURN TOLD MARIO HE THOUGHT FROM THE START "HOW GREAT LANZA'S VOICE WAS", IN FACT RT TOLD ME AND SO DID HIS WIFE THAT THEY THOUGHT "LANZA HAD, WHEN THEY FIRST HEARD A RECORING OF MARIO "THE GREATEST VOICE IN THE WORLD AT THE TIME" NEITHER TENOR REALLY DIFFERED IN THEIR OPINIONS OF OTHER SINGERS THEY TALKED ABOUT AND IN FACTAS I SAID, AGREED TO KEEEP INTOUCH, BUT ML DIED THE VERY NEXT YEAR.

A magnificent recording, a Christian prayer, performed by one of the world’s best and most acclaimed Jewish singers with reverence, dignity, nobility, intensity, depth, and faith… ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Well, it‘s the same God Jews and Christians pray to, so this is just - - perfect… 🌟

Thank you for your excellent response, for my late friend, tenor Richard Tucker, he also on the same LP record, recorded a Christmas Carol , and when Kennedy was shot , killed in 1968, in Calif. the Kennedy family had Tucker sing the Mass for the murdered Kennedy. RT held an honorary doctorate from Notre Dame .

@@michaelmcgrailengland The picture was taken in Richard Tucker's dressing room right after he had sung in London, at Covent Garden, in Tosca with Mario Lanza and several more pictures of the two American tenors where taken then also, as their wives where there also and with them and in additional photos. Mario's mom long ago gave some of them with their wives to me, Cont.

After several more photos Lanza and his wife Betty treated the tenor Tucker and wife Sara to a late night dinner at Mario's London Hotel suite and the two tenors talked of their career's and as I was very friendly with both Tucker and Maria Cocozza and Tony her husband, Lanza's parents, she gave me additional pictures of the two men with their r wives that where taken at the time. Tucker had also told me about it so I heard from both the Tucker's and Lanza's about it, mario had called his parents telling them of the evening and a wonderful performance, plus the visit with the Tucker;s both men became friends, two great american singers.
