한국어를 공부하기 시작한 후에 "(으)면서"를 배웠는데 그 의미를 처음에 알아 봤어요. It was maybe 3rd grammar (와/과, 고, then 면서), I think, but about 면서 I only knew that it means "to do 2 things at the same time"

예쁘면서 똑똑해 perfectly makes sense and does not imply any kind of criticism. So the meaning is coming from the context.
