  • In this video I put together a diy bumper kit for my jeep cherokee xj. This kit can be found on amazon in a winch and non-winch configuration and is a lot cheaper than the other companies who put out basically the same product. If you are looking for more instruction these are basically the same as the JCR instructions. Check out the link below for this Jeep XJ DIY Bumper kit. Thanks for watching.

Great work, looks really nice. I managed to rework the factory bumper and now I have a hidden winch. 🙂

@ProjectVenture A lot of work, but I wanted a hidden winch and I like how it turned out. 🙂 I also have a video if you want to check it out.
      Cheers!

In a fabricator and have built a lot of steel and aluminum boats. You never make long continuous welds like that in anything and especially thin sheet metal. You'll warp the hell out of it.

The trick is to weld a little bit at a time and jump around. Otherwise as you said, It will turn into a potato chip.

I just bought a 92 cherokee sport. It's a 2 door 5 speed manual which I've been told is rare and hard to find. I'm so excited to upgrade it and make it how I want it. Your videos have really inspired me. You've got my likes and subscribe 🤘

I’ve been pretty stuck on either buying a bumper or building and I think after watching this I’m just going to get the kit and build it myself. Great vid bud

Thanks. I was never really into them until I inherited a large collection. I had a bunch of stoves for a while too but they take up a lot of space.

Wish they had a receiver version besides the winch one too. Nice build though

Are you building a stubby?? Wish you would describe the kit and the weight of the materials. No description or mention of what came in the kit and what it cost.

I ended up getting this kit after this, and a few other videos. One problem I had, is that I was sometimes getting gaps where my seams should have been because of the little tabs holding the parts together. I am planning on getting the rear bumper, but was considering cutting the tabs off and just tacking everything in place instead of doing the bends, and I would like to know your thoughts.

In theory it shouldn’t be an issue. My only concern would be if it offsets where it mounts but it should be close enough it shouldn’t matter.

Nice video I had a JCR bumper that was on my old jeep with had been flipped 6 times and took the bumper and the JCR tie-in brackets clean outta the frame, I'mma try and use this kit to rebuild the JCR bumper if even possible.
Question tho, are you just using regular flux core welding wire or do you run gas.

Will a badland 12,000lb winch fit these?

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 роки тому +1

That is the exact winch I put in mine. I had to shave about 1/8th inch on the top towards the front though.

Except you need to add in the cost of welding wire electricity primer paint and your hours of doing it equals out to just buying a bumper but a nice little welding project

So all in all I’d say I’m about $250 into it not including time. Can’t factor in time because I have more time than money and even cheap bumpers go for $400 or more for the xjs

The face of the bumper sticks out roughly 8 inches from the base of the grill. This is not including the shackles and winch fairlead.
