And they has one of the most consistent district adjacency in the game that makes their inland settles good as well, which a lot other naval civs cannot do in these maps.
1:17:30 for Australia, they should give back the pastures buff and make it so Land Down Under doesn't kick in until after Feudalism (or something around this timeframe) so he isn't nearly as good opening campuses in teamers but is relevant in ffa again because of the pasture ability.

Yeah, Nzinga Mbande the S tier one was my first civ i played in ffa bbg. Got an amazing start. Got my hands on multiple wonders as well, got insane commercials and trade routes thanks to great merchants. And just when I wanted to skyrocket with the Mbanzas and the great works I got rekt by Saladin Sultan and his insane military bonuses. Guy was last score wise the entire game I thought he was a complete novice. Jokes on me when i became the absolute worst civ with only 4 cities left and he got 2nd place by taking all the good stuff of mine over :D
I don't play BBG, but I've looked at all the changes and the design philosophy of early war seems really mixed. Most civs that are good in early war (Shaka for example) seem to have their war bonuses heavily nerfed or delayed, plus they have very few sim bonuses, but then Drums of War being added gives me the impression they DO want to encourage early wars. I understand that getting steamrolled in the first 50 turns probably sucks to experience, but having pre-Industrial era war be almost completely unviable (at least, the impression I get from you is that it is) doesn't seem fun either. Do you think early wars should be buffed in some way? Why or why not?

When discussing several of the different early unique units, Herson touched on how they still have use in a teams game despite not being relevant to FFA, as there is a lot more merit to early wars in the former. In that format, even if a war is likely to just become a forever war after a while, it isn't disastrous because it just expends some resources from both teams, and thus doesn't crush your ability to win relative to the lobby like what happens in FFA. Even a forever war in teamers can be a winning play if you ruin the game of the best enemy simmer. In that format, the early war bonuses do have use cases, especially on a civ that can supplement it with a good timing on a UU or civ/leader ability. On the other hand, the reality of FFA games is that for early wars to be viable, the aggressor has to know without a doubt that the defender will be unable to effectively fight back, as otherwise they are doomed to fall behind the peaceful members of the lobby. Since catching someone unawares is nigh impossible with your military strength displayed to the world constantly, to have that level of certainty in your success the bonuses to early war would need to be insurmountable for those without them. However, this level of buffing would simply not be a healthy addition to the game. All in all, I think that while early war has no place in FFA games, the various bonuses available for it have relevance in teamers and thus are fine to leave as is, as there isn't really a version of them that both fits in FFA and has fair effects.
Might be a shock to you, but bbg is balanced around teamers, not ffa. Drums was added because in teamers, you pick civs who's entire purpose is to push early game, even at a complete cost to their own game. Most of the time you don't even kill the enemy, just bring them down to your level and wait for your teammate to clean up
Only thing I really disagreed with was Genghis that low. "Casual rushing" to Keshigs without more than 1 campus on 5 city com hub open will still almost always work. 1 Turn chariots in a few cities for a few turns before stirrups and bam you're 500 mil score before making Keshigs and they guy you attack is going to defend with knights or spears and gets rolled. You have cap chance on the knights, and spears are too weak. 5ish turn window before they get up pikes or crossbows and it can get hard, but around then is when your spy goes up. After like 8 Keshigs transition back to sim or keep spamming to kill a second person. Strongest medieval timing in the game and a pretty reliable second or third place. Its definitely bad pick if you're highest rated in the lobby and need to play for first though. The war timing is just so strong and undefendable that you can work to it sort of casually and be in a better position off the easy medieval kill.
The war timing is only strong if your target doesn't rush military tactics. You can have military tactics faster than Mongols can have stirrups. Also, you can't have pre-builds for keshigs, while the defender can pre-build pikemen. If you have a target that doesn't rush military tactics with a nearby Genghis that isn't their friend, they were probably going to die to any better simming civ at ballistics anyways. The player just isn't good. Good players regularly stop Mongols, which is why it isn't all that popular of a FFA choice. You pick Mongols, you are counting on finding a nearby weak player. Any nearby weak player that can be killed by Mongols, can be killed faster later at ballistics, with the bonus of maybe 1-2 more cities to capture. Now in team games, Mongols are prized for their ability to horse rush with mass horsemen and a general. The team feeding horses to Genghis is very hard to deal with because of the volume and the early strength of the Mongol Horde ability compared to normal classical units. Also, strongest medieval timing is Poland. You can have Winged Hussars as fast as other civs can have knights. A industrial era strength unit at medieval timing is insane, the only challenge is making enough comm hubs to have the gold for upgrades. But, Poland has that unique market that fits right in with the strategy.

The reason it specifies “original capital” is because on any other Civ, if your original capital is conquered, a new city becomes your capital. The Dido bonus changes your ORIGINAL capital, which is why you get the bonuses
Dido question. Are you sure that moving capital will trigger all those split continents bonuses. Wonders and cards specifically have mention your original capita.
I just thought that was how it worked, and after double checking I realized that I was wrong. Casa de Contratacion and Colonial Taxes both specify that they work based on your original capital, so changing your capital via Dido's ability doesn't do anything.

The "Original capital" part of those cards are with regards to any civ getting a new capital when their original capital is conquered, but the Dido project moves the "Original capital"
I wonder if they plan to rebalance it in a way that so many pre-industrial UUs would become relevant again. But then again, FFA is not the only game mode, probably there's no need to balance everything around it.
Genuinely so sad they massacred one of my favourite civs in Colombia. Feels like a definite over-nerf imo. Not having the +1 movement to civilian units anymore, having to wait for the bonus and considering how much haciendas suck, he's basically worthless. Comandantes are literally just great generals. When everyone else can earn your only worthwhile unique bonus, there's a genuine question why you're even in the game at that point. Imo they could definitely give back the movement to civilian units at political philosophy and military units from the start of the game. Montezuma exists, Chandra Gupta exists, war civs without simming bonus in general need some help and they completely destroyed one of the only decent ones.
BBM is better, bbs is no longer supported (last update was 2.5 years ago). BBM doesnt have a changelog yet but globally civ biaises up to date, city center yields options and such.
1st Civ France " +6 from spies is generic and isn't great " 2nd Civ " Byzantium gets a +6 from converting a willing religion founder and OMG ITSCRAZYSTRONG "
Because the window for utilizing the +6 bonus from the spy is fairly tight, it only lasts until whoever you're targeting gets their own spy on you. While Byzantium bonus stays for pretty much the whole game once you've managed to convert the cities.
The +6 Byzantium can be stacked with the combat bonus from diplo vis from a spy too. It's not like diplo vis is unique to France, so it is pretty generic. They are just slightly better at it.
I love civ 6, and I would love to play online with others.. but I think so many things of the Better balance mod are so terrible for the spirit of the game. I LOVE, truly love, all the buffs made to bad civs here. but I HATE some of the VERY strange ideas on how to nerf strong civ.. so often completely taking away their identity, like removing the +1 move to units from Simón Bolívar or Hammurabi completely losing its identity.. Khmer not beeing fun not gaining much from placing Holys next to rivers which IS diffrent than other civs and therefore fun.. where here it is barely worth it by loosing so much adjacency just for 1 food.. Mali my fsvorite civ completely losing its identity for No reason when people already say its pretty Bad. But giving me only 1 faith instead of my 5 is Just a bummer making it instantly not fun anymore I would LOVE a version of this mod that ONLY and really ONLY has the buffs to the "Bad" civs.. because I think the more diverse and strong civs are the more fun you can have with games turning out REALLY different and sway you in a specific playstyle.
When you start in a game, click the in-game menu(upper righthand corner). At the bottom is a box that shows what content is being used in the game, DLC packs and mods. Any mod that you have enabled should show up in that list and thus will be used in that game. I don't particularly like the intrusiveness of the pop-ups in the single player game and play multiplayer local network game with AI as the other players to get the single player experience of the game.

That being said, your take that Spain is not good in FFA is straight up wrong. Cont split bias alone is OP. I am currently #19 on the HOF leaderboard and #9 in the current season so I think I know a little of what I am talking about.
