    "Chthonian Stars" can exist. Basically another star steals its partner's matter leaving a smaller husk, though massive by planet standards. Kinda like a reverse brown dwarf. They don't easily fit into star or planet classifications. Their compositions can differ from how the Star was originally: main sequence, neutron star, or white dwarf. How their chemical compositions and how much matter was stolen. An odd occurrence can happen when these Chthonian stars are more massive then some red dwarfs. They are understandably rare.

    Could you do a Mercury as a small gas giant experiment? I think it might be a chthonian planet. It would explain it's weird orbit, why Earth collided with Thea, and why Venus has a retrograde spin.

    i know that there is a theory that many Exo-moons of gas giants may support life. Could you do a video on that?

      Jupiter's and Saturn's moons are already candidates for life to exist

    • @amazingreboot4207

      +My Nigga Etika I know, but a lot of exo-gas giants orbit in the habitable zone. So the moons there could be earth like. Not an underground ocean

    Why is the water still there? Shouldn't it be evaporated from the heat and blown away by the star while the planet was close in the first place?
    Thank you for this awesome channel. Your videos always make me read astronomy papers and I studied genetics, keep the great job and greetings from Argentina and sorry if the question was too stupid!!!

    Wouldn't the inner rocky planets be chthonian? When the solar system first fired up I am sure there was a lot thicker atmosphere for all four of them, and then the first solar winds would blow them away. This is prior to the magnetic field induced by Theia colliding into the Earth.

    but what about volcanic activity? do they have a magnetic field?

      Mary42877 Why the hell is it always weapons with you people?

    • @Mary42877
      @Mary42877 8 років тому +2

      well...I hardly think a species would survive if they weren't willing to fight for themselves. unless there were no hostile animals in their environment, which is unlikely. once they win, the urge to fight won't suddenly disappear. thus, weapons!
      why do you concentrate on weapons, though? electricity, that's what's important! unless there are other materials from which to build technology (like, idk, ceramic spaceships with, ehh, organic computers?? or no computers at all??), they'll be stuck on their metalless rock forever. so, metal is important.

    If one did exist how would it be any different than a normal planet? The composition of the planet?

  • @Luredreier
    @Luredreier 8 років тому

    Hum, why always so "boring" and circular orbits?
    What about a gas giant moving in close to its parent star and then out again in a way that on average leaves it with roughly the same conditions as the green zone?
    Remember it takes longer time on the part of the orbit that's further away from its star then the part that's up close.
    Anyway, could possibly life evolve on such a planet?
    And could it go close enough to the star to lose it's atmosphere (eventually)?

    neat sims petrov,the production ALIEN PLANET was done a few years ago,,some neat sims,cgi constructs of local biology,,and the stupid robot who wrecked the whole project at the very end,what drove me nuts was the drip drip drip of 30 seconds of 15 eggheads..,,30 seconds of vids of the action, back to the eggheads,I suppose to spare the short attention spanned of undue effort.,you pack detail,evolution & methodology to present a lot of possibilities of planet geology,earth-suitability,maybe a video along those lines might be on one of your back burners.

      Ya, We are not talking Savannah hot. We are talking beyond volcanic hot. With no atmosphere. So, if Mustafar was a true Chthonian planet Obi-Wan and Anakin would not have been able to go outside because no atmosph- actually, even with all that molten rock they both should have had their lungs melt in their chests. Or suffocate from poison gases. Regardless, that battle shouldn't have happened there but for dramatic reasons Lucas had to have it happen in the depths of proverbial Hell.

    Yo future space civilization could just find gas giants that lost their atmosphere then yest them back away from that sun and they have another planet that they can live on in a couple 1000 years imagine just mass producing planets by pushing gas giants close to their sun that’d be crazy but huge time investment 😂
