TMB really changed my life, I first saw them in 2004, I was 17 years old, I was still discovering Genesis, so most of the songs were new to me (Like Supper's ready!) and what an experience it was. 20 years later, I've been to about 20 show, in France, UK and Canada and a few years ago, I started working for them, doing costumes, researches and other things.

This may sound weird saying about a tribute band but The Musical Box had quite an impact on my life! I first saw them in 2007 when my dad took me with him. I was 15 and that concert changed me from a casual enjoyer to a hardcore Genesis fan. And it also help improve the relationship between me and my dad. So for now I've see the band 11 times (last time this year) and I already got tickets for the "Genesis Live" show next year and I can't wait ❤

Years ago, I Recieved a Phone Call. A Friend had an Extra Ticket for a Hollywood California TMB Show. It was a Free to me , if i Accepted. My Dinner was put in the Fridge. And I Drove to the Theater. Our Seats were in the Upper Deck of the Theater, In the 1st Row. The Band was spot on, And i heard People in the Crowd saying that they saw Tony Banks in the Lobby signing Autographs. An Older Genesis Album was Played. What Stood out for me was Mike Rutherford's Bass was So Strong, Yet Not Distorted. It was Indeed, Like being in a Time Machine, Going Back in Time. What a Fantastic Show. Thanks for your Review.

I have seen them three times so far and my most memorable show was the recreation of The Lamb show with the original props used by Genesis in 1974. It was really a travelling in time experience...
    Sad they are getting old.

I've seen them twice and I'll see them again as soon as they come close. They're extremely awesome. Maybe you "older" fans saw Genesis before touring but younger ones didn't have the chance (only the domino tour) so I'd say they're the closest we have and we appreciate a loooot.

I saw them for the first time this year and thought they were awesome, it's such an immersive experience that really let's you appreciate the dynamics of the band on stage back then. Their rendition of Firth of Fifth was the highlight for me. Selling England is the album that I really go into Genesis with (only around 10 years ago!), so it was great to be able experience it close to how it was originally toured. Already booked my tickets for next year in Birmingham Town Hall, which Genesis played the same tour at in 1973. Oh and the instrument tuning is intentionally just replicating what they did in the 70s. It was funny to see a couple of people complain about it on Facebook, not really getting the concept... They might as well have stayed at home and listened to the studio albums!

I've seen them so many times over the past few decades. Why haven't you done this already?? It's a must...

Hey Scott!! I have seen them probably 6 times and they never disappoint. I even saw them twice in the late 90's when they had two keyboard players and two guitarists. I really should go and see them again since it's been a while. Maybe next time. Glad you got to see them and enjoyed it!

Probably the most famous Genesis tribute band is The Musical Box, a fascinating simulacrum of the Gabriel and early-Collins eras of Genesis. Formed in 1993, the band is akin to a theatrical repertoire company with a revolving door for the various musicians. Over 20 players have been ‘Peter’, ‘Steve’, ‘Tony’ and ‘Phil’ although there has only ever been one ‘Mike’.
The majority of the tours - Foxtrot, Selling England black show, Selling England white show, The Lamb…, Trick… - feature a replication of the actual set-list from that tour. The performances are lifted from specific shows on the respective tours with a meticulous attention to the available bootleg recordings of the onstage detail, hence the ‘Peter’ vocalisations and between song stories during tune-up and ‘Phil’s’ mild, near-apology before More Fool Me. The theatrical production is further authenticated by using identical instruments and rigs and the exact set props used in the specific tour.
The Musical Box’s performances are inch perfect and one could be fooled into thinking that one was watching Genesis. While the band has not released any recordings from any of the tours (probably part of the licensing deal with Genesis management), it is possible to view many fan videos of The Musical Box across the ages on UA-cam. Why not take a little trip back?

I have tickets to see TMB this Friday. Can't wait.
On the future of concerts from legacy artists, The Sphere has done something interesting very recently, where they have a concert film called V-U2: An Immersive Concert Film, which from my understanding is basically a video reproduction of the actual U2:UV concerts from last year. I actually saw the actual U2:UV concert in Las Vegas (second show ever at The Sphere). I've been a lifelong U2 fan. This was my 17th time seeing them. And this is the very first time where the venue outshined the artist. A premium concert film in such an incredible venue actually makes sense, where the artist is so small, and you're sitting up in the seats marveling at the spectacle above you.
I do think as venues evolve and technology accelerates, and with the introduction of AI, that legacy artists will have new life long after they are gone. People (myself included) are suckers for nostalgia. and production companies will find many exciting, perhaps controversial, avenues to profit off of that.

As a professional stage lighting technician in late 70’s and early 80’s for touring bands in UK, Europe and USA PA’s could be good or not so good . This was dependent upon venue, audience density and quality of the mix but you must remember we were not listening to digital CD or other music sources so had nothing to compare.

This band is great. I've seen them 5 times since 2018, I think I've seen the same show you saw. I am still amazed how much the singer sounds like classic Peter Gabriel. I take the other members of the band wearing white as them saying, "Yeah Pete you do what you're going to do, but we're not doing that!" While I do appreciate the faithful recreation of all the stories in between the songs, after a while I felt like, "Man we don't need all these stories! Just play the songs!" For me the highlights are Firth of Fifth, Cinema Show and In the Cage. Say them do the Lamb, though I was bored during that one at times, as it's not my favorite album. Definitely see them if they come near you!

I saw TMB three times, I agree they are a good replica of Genesis. But after each concert I asked myself how great the original shows must have been!

I’ve seen The Musical Box about 10 times. First time I saw them was in 1994 with their first singer. The last time was in 2001. My issue with the band nowadays is that the singer is almost 60 years old and he plays the role of a 25 years old Peter Gabriel. It’s a bit weird.

That decades-long trend with tribute bands has never been my thing, as I can't get on board with the more or less successful imitation of artists - be it acoustically or visually with a red dress and fox mask. For me, that would be on a similar level to all those Beatles imitators with mop tops who try to recreate the naivety and effervescence of Lennon and co., as if the world had stood still for all organisms since then. Hence, I have never attended and will never attend The Musical Box, Martin Levac, Nad Sylvan, Roger King or any other similar formation. Nevertheless, I wish everyone who is still looking forward to it a lot of joy.

Hey Scott, my friend Tom and I saw them play the lamb at Southampton Guildhall, probably 20 ish years ago. It was very impressive. After a small effort by me to suspend the truth, I actually felt like I’d been in a time machine and was actually seeing Genesis perform it in the 70’s! That was exciting.
I’d recommend any fan to go see them 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Scott, I was so frustrated watching you with the McFlurry in your hand! I could see how badly you wanted to eat it 👍🏻 and then you couldn’t resist and took a bite 😂

Rubbish review where you can’t even have the courtesy to stop eating , driving etc and deliver a thoughtful and coherent report of this show . Good do better so 5/10 marks

'Some people prefer to see The Musical Box, then the real thing..'
Did they jump in a time machine?
