The best Violetta to ever live. Her pathos and drama reaches the highest summit, true passion, suffering, love, and sacrifice.

The artistic and vocal mastery of the both Artists are stupendous and unsurpassed. Apart from their enormous vocal capacities, the great operatic artists from the past lived in their roles. Callas was so uniqly versatile artist: from Macbeth, Boolean, to Rosina, from Aida, Norma, to Julyet, Violetta, Lucia and c.t.r. The list is almost endless! And every role, every character she performed on stage was a real revelation of her genuan ability to be different: heroic, jolly, sad, suppressed, rebellious, mad, tragic and...always breathtakingly beautiful! Diva unica!!!

Very well said! And some thing else: Maria could switch from a dramatic role to a completely different one just overnight.

Thank you,@@aetionfor for your sincere response! You are absolutely right. It's quite incomprehensible how she managed to sing so many opera parts - a few dozens at least! And each is a masterpiece, like this one. She was extremely hard and quick worker. I think Callas, being a half Greek, has inhereted this stoic, rebellious spirit from her ancient ancestors, along with the highest tragic traditions of that time. No wonder that Callas was destined to became the best tragic performer of the last centery.

Thank you for your nice reply. Just remember Callas was not "half Greek", but Greek (both her parents were Greek) born in N.Y., but grown up in Athens, where she studied with Elvira de Hidalgo and sang her first prime role, Tosca, in August 1942, aged almost 19.

      Yes, dear@@aetion,
I see that we are both very familiar with Callas life.Knowing that mother was Greek, I've tried to emphasize that her Greek roots, , were dominating forces of her nature and her art. Moreover, I want to add now that they've "nourished" her stage images, making them unbearably powerful and authentic. But, somehow, they also tragically influenced her personal life. Her life was a story of the artistic triumph and of the saddest, human's tragedy .Like in the Greek tragedies - she was mercilesly betrayed and "stabbed in the back" by the person she loved most of all! .The dignified Quine's heart was broken, but she continued to give to the world, the best she could do - her inspirational Art.

Thank you OperaMyWorld for your warm words on my comments on Callas Art! Thank you for dedication to the Opera Art! These vocal Giants such as: Corelli, Gobi, Del Monaco, Lance, De Stephane, Caballe and many others left us priceless artistic legacy. And, of course, unique - Maria Callas. She stands out among the other opera singers. She always astounded and bewitched the audience by putting her whole soul into each of her performance. Corelli and Callas my two favorate Artists.Their voices, for me, sound boundless, untamed like nature forces. We are lucky that we can continue to enjoy them.Today, alas, the opera art lost its greatness and splendore.

Sì Visconti,Di Stefano, la splendida Callas ma anche GIULINI. Erano tempi in cui si diceva La Traviata della Callas e non del direttore e meno del regista.
