This was such a dominant run through the tournament. Barely even tested aside from moments in the second half by LSU, and they wilted down the stretch. Heels just romped.
I come back every so often to watch this man. I miss how dominate UNC was, and didn't take nights off on the defensive end. The amount of wins the core of the team got while at UNC is just crazy! Hopefully we can start getting guys that want to play for the team and not just their draft status.
This is without a doubt one of the greatest UNC teams of all-time. And that's saying something with all the superstars that have come through Chapel Hill. Big Game Wayne Ellington was the best of the best. He picked the best time to shine. Go Heels!!
No team would beat this one. And I’m including the Jordan, worthy, Perkins teams in that. I’ve never seen a more polished team than 08-09 Carolina. I’m not certain any college team ever could’ve stopped Hansbrough from getting that trophy
I was wearing my “Make it Wayne” t-shirt, as Ellington made it rain. I miss having a jump shooter like that. That team breezed through the tournament, as did the 2005 team.
This was the most devasting loss in a national championship game by any team in the modern era. Hansbrough's Legacy came to fruition. There was not a single second of the game that anyone could doubt that the 'Heels were going to be national champions.
This team just had it all inside and out. I would say it was the greatest Tar Heel team ever with its combination of inside play, quickness and 3 point shooting. Just zero weakness anywhere.
I believe in a tournament of all NCAA champions all time that 08-09 North Carolina would win it all. Some of the greatest fundamental basketball ever seen at the college level. The Spurs of college bball. I miss when great players would stay 3-4 years. One and done doesn’t create teams like this anymore
1990 UNLV 2012 Kentucky 2018 Villanova 2021 Baylor 1991/92 Duke 2005 North Carolina 2004 UConn 2001 Duke 2002 Maryland 1996 Kentucky 1998 Kentucky You think they would beat all of them?
@@No-bn7dm yeah I do. They’d get my money if I was betting. Not to say other teams aren’t great. But what 2012 Kentucky had in talent, 2009 unc had in talent plus chemistry. That team was something else to watch
Basketball is different now from what I'm seeing over the last several years. The transfer portal and OAD rule. Just wonder if there will be any more great years in UNC like we've enjoyed over the last 3 decades. It hurts my heart

one of the greatest college basketball teams ever!
even the biggest Heels fan I know -my brother- didn't realize UNC won each game of this tournament by double digits.
Frfr Tyler was a god for us
no doubt
Truth
No doubt about it!!
We were stacked that year...4 starters that could go for 20 on any given night and it’d just be a reg game.
this was the best college basketball team I ever saw and should have went undefeated.
1983-84 was better. Jordan, Kenny the Jet, Perkins, Brad Daughtery.
This was such a dominant run through the tournament. Barely even tested aside from moments in the second half by LSU, and they wilted down the stretch. Heels just romped.
Here after Roy Williams retired. He recruited one of the best teams in the ncaa and this one was the most special
They all stayed in school 3 and 4 years and they were all 4 and 5 star recruits comn in.
Ellington and Lawson was one the best dynamic duo on North Carolina.
Agreed but I'm gonna say carter and Jamison
One thing about the great unc teams they were never about individual status it was always about the team.

Ellington was so underrated
This 2009 UNC Team would dominate the breaks out of the 2017 team. By far the best College Basketball team ever in UNC imo
This team just had it all inside and out. I would say it was the greatest Tar Heel team ever with its combination of inside play, quickness and 3 point shooting. Just zero weakness anywhere.
GO HEELS ☝️ Ellington had one of the sweetest jumpers
Next to Dante Calabria and Donald Williams basketball teams, this has to be the best shooting team in UNC history
Not next to, this was the best
This team stayed in school 3 and 4 years. You dont see that now days
Ty Lawson was a flat out speed demon.
I missed this 2 years ago glad my Tarheels won!

@@Heelsfan-bd5tf 2012 Kentucky had one of the best chemistry in basketball history and 3 of their starters were freshman
Ty for everything Coach Roy❤
Love this 2009 UNC team from the bottom of my heart.
The 2009 NCAAT wasn't a tournament at all. It was a coronation. I miss watching this team.
Miss this team
This team beat the breaks off of EVERYBODY ! 💪🐏👣
Tyler was a beast
Lawson was the heart of this team. Best UNC team over the last 30 years.
HIndsight is 20/20. Wayne Ellington was a BOSS
My favorite Heels team ever!
Seems like yesterday wish this Tar Heels team was this good.
They were great!
Awesome team!
The ceiling is the roof.go.tarheels.

Dang near all of UNC's starters went to the league off this team, Lawson was always my favorite, but Green, Hansborgh and Ellington were good too.
The god produces another great vid!!!
Goatku hahaha thanks guy
Go Heels!
Basketball is different now from what I'm seeing over the last several years. The transfer portal and OAD rule. Just wonder if there will be any more great years in UNC like we've enjoyed over the last 3 decades. It hurts my heart
I remember that year my North Carolina had dominated team that won the national championship that year

Why you gonna disrespect my town like tf
