After my brother passed away, my moms church stepped in with hot food and groceries, blankets and pillows when my mom couldn't stay in the home where it happened... that year I received a bike and many other gifts from the church, and on a year when we wouldn't have had anything... I'm eternally grateful

M Paxton, while I didn't thumb it down, I did stop watching & was put off by a few things, so I'll share my reason (and perhaps it answers your question as to why at least some didn't like it). Clearly it was done with a very Christian only viewpoint. When that one woman was talking about how she hoped the woman who lost her baby would accept Jesus as her only savior as that is the only way she would be reunited with her baby I was NOT happy. I was not raised a Christian, BUT I fully believe in G-d, Heaven, and that I TOO will be reunited with my loved ones after death. That woman's comments were unintentionally quite hurtful and dismissive to those of us of other religions. That's just one possible reason....hope it provides some insight. That said, these folks are doing a great job helping where MUCH help is needed, and that is awesome!!!

      John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
      Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
      1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
      John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
      John 10:9
I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.
      Romans 10:9
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
      John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
      John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."

This message is insight into her religious background. She is a true believer, she really did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings. She is a holy lady therefore she is trying so hard to continue Jesus Christ's work. She said a statement that she believes is completely true with all her heart. When the holy spirit enters into you something happens to the human heart, to be more specific this is a passage from the holy bible (Ezekiel 36:26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh). although you may not believe it, that woman has lived it, she has experienced the true power of the trinity. Father, Son & the holy Spirit has been with her since she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and Lord. He lives in her. He works through her and she, well she has had the absolute blessing of being able to serve her almighty one true God. Jesus Christ is LOVE and his love is best described in these two passages from the holy bible #1 (John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.") #2 ( 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.")

      Philippians 2:4
"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
      Luke 6:38
"Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
      Galatians 6:2
"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
      1 John 3:17
"But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?"
      Proverbs 19:17
"Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed."
      Acts 20:35
"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
      Matthew 25:35-40
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?"

And there are plenty of facts to back it up. But it's always easier to villianize those who look different. Or blame them for taking what's rightfully yours.

I've always said, if I had plenty of money ( like some people I've seen ), I'd make sure these families had brand new homes for thier families. I've been poor all my life and I'm in my 50's now and I know how it feels to be in these situations. It is not that I didn't work hard, because I have. I never got to own my own home, but my children were feed, had a home, school clothes, Christmas' , and birthdays, so I'd say we were pretty blessed. I've kept my faith in Jesus every since I was a little girl. He may not have blessed me with money, but he's blessed me to have a heart. No one should ever be homeless, especially children. What you guys are doing for these families and these children is such a blessing. You are God's angles. I PRAY that they have been blessed and protected even more ever since this video was made. I pray these blessings continue. God bless you all. 🙏🙌✝️🤗😘🥰🥰🥰

I realize this is an old video with old comments, but I'd like to point out that things are just as hard in the cities. I'm from the poorest of the big cities- Philadelphia. The difference is we have easier access to social services but that doesn't make things that much easier. The point I'm making is that suffering from poverty is universal.

    • @gocelinedion

I agree, poverty in inner cities is terrible. However, poverty in rural America seems to me to go more unnoticed than urban poverty. It seems to me that people who live in poverty in rural America do not have as well of access to social services and programs. Inner city poverty is an issue but is often better than Appalachian poverty.

Yes they are sinning , but maybe with these people helping , they can talk to them about Jesus , they will see Christ’s love in what these people do , then maybe they will understand they are sinning, and they will get married.

It is easy to see who does not know Christ and His love. I have been to Haiti twice and WV once. People are people. They do the best they can with what they know. If jobs and a college education solved the problems; we would not have this misconception of how life is to be lived. These families love each other. For those who judge them. You have no idea what they have faced for generations. If money was the answer, people in Hollywood would not be killing themselves. Rich people are the world's most unhappy people. There is never enough. What a blessing it is to give time to the poor. Our president ( of any party) cannot fill the deepest need of the human race. Only Jesus Christ can.

The one woman has no business preaching to that lady about how wrong it is to live with a man without marriage. It's frankly none of her business. If you're there to help the family, then do so without adding the lecture of not being married and how you should be a Christian. To me that's a personal choice for someone to make.

I gave my heart back to the Lord while watching this, seeing Christians in action spreading the love of God, the love of Christ to these people to these precious people. I would never want to give my money to these huge Ministries I see on Christian TV. I don't want to give my money to a mega church ministry I see on television. I'd rather give my money to people like this who are doing God's work in a holy way to show his love toward people who are hurting in many ways. I think you for uploading this video I thank God for all of you, in Jesus' name I pray amen...

Anyone else notice the prevalence of truck drivers in these poor families? Anyone that has driven a truck for a living knows how challenging and stressful the life of an over the road driver is. There is definitely good money to be made out there if one drives safely and can get in plenty of miles, but, overall, trucking companies grossly underpay their drivers.

I don't think it's selfish, if more people thought that way our country would be a lot stronger............i'm not saying don't help people. Everybody needs help at some point but this type of help is now generational support and that is because these people have allowed themselves to become so dependent upon outside help that they are no longer capable of helping themselves. Help should be a temporary thing until people get back on their feet and are once again capable of taking care of themselves. Help is not supposed to last forever.

Were schools in many areas have to fight to keep a meal program so that the kids don't go hungry. A country were having Health Care is only a dream. However! the USA is there to save the world, there to help keep dictators in poor countries in power. There to keep such small and poor countries such as Haiti in slavery. Were outside of the USA can an American proudly advertise the U.S flag on his belonging?

I agree. Charity needs to start at home for every church in the United States. Our country has immense poverty, and it seems to get worse every day. There in no reason whatsoever for a single American to leave this country to help the poor. Mission trips need to start right here at home.

I have worked with mission groups for over 30 years and found that a group of 20 with plane fairs, hotels over night in the usa before leaving, junk food that they cannot live without, new clothes and bathing suits to show how well off they are back in the states, room and board for a week or so, all of that to come and build 50 benches for a church is so damn crazy. That amount of money used to build a few benches and walk around the villages like the coming of Moses. helping to build a cement school, while they do not know nothing about building in cement and while every one there that could do 100% better, do not have a job...Church and christian groups is a waste of money and all they get for it is a feel good trip, like they just saved the world..Stay home and help the ghettos, stay home and help the mountain people.

I'd like to see these children get a program that teaches them about who they are. They need to know the history of their ancestors to give them the sense of pride and feeling of self-worth they so desperately need.
I'd like to see them have lessons on their history; how the mountain people have been over-represented in every war in this country. How their sharp-shooting forebears were instrumental in settling the country and building a nation. If not for the backwoodsmen learning Native American guerrilla tactics, hand-to-hand combat, and the expert use of a rifle, the American Revolution might not have been won.
I'd like to see the children taught some of the old self-sufficient ways; farming, food preservation, woodworking, quilting/sewing, beekeeping, home building, well digging, etc.
There has to be more for these people to do and they have a very proud history of self sufficiency. It can be brought back into being.

You know it's easy to make fun of these beautiful people and their cultures of Appalachian but those who make fun of these people would never be capable of filling their shoes. The rudest people in the world are people who make fun of Appalachian people because what society has provided the ones better off in this world with their riches and comfortable living and society has taught them to look down on people who don't have as much. Destroy the mountains and the people's way of life who cares? That is the attitude of this capitalist nation which is only provided poverty and damage to these people, and only the cruelest people in this country blame them for their way of surviving. So to all you cruel people out there........ When you were a child during snow days leaving the warm home to the outside cold and after you got too cold for you, you run back in your cozy warm house. Well, while you are good and warm in your house, some of these Appalachian kids were laying in their beds and looking through the cracks in the wall watching it snow and have to build a fire to get warm and they dressed best as they could afford but the house still wouldn't be warm enough to be comfortable. So before you make fun of these people because of their way of life you need to understand that these children could have been one of you, and one of these days it may be you. So learn to respect not only the poor but the needy. These people are the people who fight U.S wars so you can have that nice warm cozy home you think you so much deserve. When you treat people who are without fair and treat them like a Human being and respect them then you are doing what Jesus would do because God is love, how strong are your faith and love?

No, not saying they are. But ways can be found. Seeds may not be free, but they're pretty cheap. Gardening tools could possibly be borrowed. Land may not always be arable, but there are methods of gardening like lasagne or sheet layering which means you 'make' your own fertile soil on top of soil. You don't even need to dig. You can use cardboard, manure, veg waste, leaves for this. Not saying everything IS easy, but where there is a will there is a way!

Absolutely true. And governments and kingdoms have been treating their people this way since the dawn of civilization, so I wouldn't bother relying on them caring a little more in the future. Personal responsibility is a must. No good relying on governments to take care of us regardless of how much taxes you pay. Until the majority see the light, governments will continue to leech the people, so it's smart to take personal responsibility and not fall into the victim mentality.

Are there still any areas in the Applachians where they live old school style and totally do it all for themselves? Any areas where they dont have electricity and running water? I am not putting them down for that. Not at all. I admire folks that have tons of survival skills, and dont care about all the modern conveniences. I look up to people that know how to survive real good. Is there still any areas like that in the Applachians? I was in Mexico, and maybe 50% of the people still do not have modern houses and electricity.. many still have no cars, just ride horses, live like the old west, and do not want to change..they feel proud they know how to make everything, do everything for themselves in Mexico in the rural areas..

@Michael Craig I grew up in Appalachia Kentucky. I was born in 1988 (which makes me 28). I was raised in the home my grandpa built for his family. We had no running water, electricity, or bathroom. We had well water, an outhouse, a garden, and some farm animals. As I got into my late teens around 17 we got electricity, and running water. It was amazing. Yes, others around me had these necessities, but not all of us. A lot of the kids from my holler lived like I did, and we stuck together! We helped in the gardens, help dry and can food, hunt, etc. We kelp warm during the winter with coal and wood. I have packed a many of buckets of coal in my day, drawn a lot of buckets of water from the drawl well also. I would not change a thing because although we was poor, I felt rich. I ate well because I was not picky what I ate. I learned to knit blankets and use scrap fabric to hand sew clothes and quilts. Now people see this stuff as oddities. Even some people my age don't know how to do this because they are 2 parts of the track. The ones who always had what the other side didn't.

One thing Ive noticed is that the poorest live in "farm" land, cant some one teach them to plant crops to supplement their income, the children could tend to the veg plots while mum and dad are at work

An agrarian life is hardly a way to compete in the 21st century.

My family andnI live in MD Appalachia. We don't have central heat so we heat with wood we collect off of the mountain. We have a well and we have a very large garden. We can and dry as much food as possible. Our landlord brings us a deer once a year. I can it up too. I buy apples in LA crates and can them up. I buy sales meats and can them up. When Thanksgiving turkey sales come around, I can them up too. But gardening is not easy at all. Pests and bad weather can wipe something out over night. Also deer are rampant in these mountains. After the great depression, the deer population dwindled, but now they are back. If you can't afford a decent tall fence for garden, don't even bother planting. We cut 8 foot posts from the mountains and bought fencing that is 6 foot tall. We can plant now. It took a while of saving and planning to afford that fence.

I also think there is poor people everywhere. People like to point out the poverty in the appalachians. They especially like to pick on the people in kentucky. Appalachian people are proud people and don't want your scrutiny. If you want to see poor people you could probably look out your own back door. Homelessness is filling the streets in big cities all over the world. There is poverty everywhere! We give more to other countries and they can come over here and get all kinds of help. They end up living the anerican dream. This country will not spare a dime for the poor children living in their own country. The bible says that charity begins at home! It also says if you have this worlds goods and you shut up your bowels of compassion you have none of the love of the father in you. It tells us to not forget the poor. Most people want to look the other way, but remember the story of Lazarus in the bible. Lazarus begged at the rich mans gate. His presence ended up condeming the rich man. Whether you want to admit it or not, we have an obligation to the poor. They are here to condemn all the selfcentered selfish people who have gained fortune in this world and will not share what God has blessed them with. They might be having their heaven here on earth. " just a thought"

How many are actually doing this???::::(Acts 4:32-37)
42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

I hate that any babies in this world go hungry and are bombed and have to live their lives in fear. That’s not right at all, but there are so many babies here in the US that need us. I gave when I had it. Do what I can now. God bless you all.

I have issues with using Poverty as an instrument of recrution. True love is unconditional, and I get the feeling that acceptation of charity in the Appalachia is under the condition that you join a church and or forcefully believe in a deity. Nashville is a sad example of that, so many homeless stay on the streets due to puritan rules and being bashed over the head with bible babble and forced to attend a mass if you want a bowl of soup and a cot at the mission hall. THAT IS NOT CHRISTIAN LOVE. Jesus would give and ask nothing in return. He never thought once you can BUY someones love with a slice of bread. Cumberland river bank is loaded with homeless feeling rejected due to their exorcise in freedom to think.
