not what my cd says..
@@imokay3397 whats on the CD?
@@imokay3397this isn’t mixed in the order of the CD release, it was actually mixed in the order of the original LP release.
That was a great musical journey! Thanks for sharing!
I got so lost in the late 90’s ‘beat science’ thing…. This, early Amon Tobin, Funki Porcini, Squarepusher, Flanger, the weirder Ninja Tune/ Ntone stuff. It was so great to have these artists making these weird explorations and showing just how malleable percussion can be in terms of style, use, form.
Funki Porcini unfortunately doesn’t get mentioned much. Love Pussycats and Carwrecks is a fantastic album.
can’t forget photek. he was a genius from 1993 up to 2000.
photek was the real break wizard of the era
@@RoboSlaughter if you are saying vibert and jenkinson can do what photek did, but not vice versa, im surprised. sure parkes never delved into the light-hearted breakizm like the other two, but i dont think that reflects his skill, more-so his preference and taste. and to say vibert and jenkison have matched parkes at his own game is crazy to me. photeks level of intricacy and detail with layered breaks and one shots of differing textures is on another level. im way more into parkes than the other two, so if there are some tunes that you think could change my mind please do share :)
@@01seb83 photeks drum work is really not intricate or detailed it's extremely minimal and sparse, he does a lot with not much, that's the whole point! And yea some of the plug tracks or like squarepusher music is rotted/burning n tree are a bit sparser and more film noir like you might expect from photek. But if you just want to be converted then listen to Go Plastic.
Luke Vibert deserves so much more recognition than he gets.
He's your favorite producer's favorite producer. He's never done anything that doesn't still sound as fresh as the day it dropped, even after decades. This is definitely one for the ages.
Just found out about his alias Wagon Christ.. this fella couldn’t produce a bad record if he tried
@UCLKe0dsk8zuWPKpSgGj8zthere's also kerrier district
@@DelFlo without hearing 'rendleshack' as a teenager i probably wouldn't have 5 turntables and thousands of records today 😅
@@DelFlo the track "Tally ho!" from his wagon Christ project is one of my favorites👌
Had my own little house party, on my own, in the middle of the day, mostly inside my head, even bounced my foot a few times. Great time!
One man rave.
Pure genius, one of the best albums of the nineties.
I remember renting this from the public library and copying onto cassette maybe '98
original pirating
sounds like a cool library
I used to do that with a bunch of cd’s, though they’d charge you 50p for the privilege.. cheeky librarians
Same
Your publib had that?! lmao 🤣
edit: ok, I got some funky stuff from publibs too...books, really rare books.
Just like that the last twenty minutes of music triggers a memory of hearing it ten + years ago on a French language Canadian radio station where I was unable to track down the tracks or artist. Today I realized it was this. So nice to accidentally a long lost sound I assumed I’d never find origin of.
So random finding it this way after such a long time. We live in a magical time

I came for the music...I stayed for the comments...best D&B album of all time
Great album, thanks for uploading. The man on the album cover is Luke Vibert/Plug's grandfather who was a magician :)
Cool! I always wondered who that guy was from
Lol
Why is he chinese
He's not Chinese, he's magic
Can kinda see a resemblance.
This bangs in 2022
Still fresh. Fresher than "new" DnB even.
i agree, its funny being like old music was where its at however, there is something about the way these guys did it compared to the computer music makers, this is just sounds better to me. I thin kits the sampled drums instead of computer programmed drums i could be wrong
The UK music/breaks scene in the late 90's was fucking killing it, it was just too far ahead of it's time...
Interesting question: if it was ahead of its time, to which time did it point? It got never as popular as back in 1995-2005. Times still to come perhaps? Would be cool.
Unf****ng beliveable! This masterpiece is over 23 years old?!??!
I hadn't heard this album for almost 15 years. This was the album that introduced me to drum and bass. It's set the bar so high then I don't think I have ever heard another drum and bass album that wasn't somewhat disappointing in comparison. I am so glad to have found it here and been able to listen on my driving trip
I cringe so hard at the local D'nB scene in my city.. I can't even call it D'nB
@@theyapper1337 atleast you have "D'nB", but I feel you
@@NyndeLOL i sometimes play dnb and jungle (moving shadow, good looking records etc)to my friends on rekordbox, we are quite fond of those genres
@Jackass Retro
omg same
try Guy Called Gerald - Black Secret Technology
I love this jungle album as much as I love this one...
Piano sample first heard at 49seconds is taken from Children of the Corn II.
There's a companion Plug album called "Back On Time" which features tracks that didn't make it on this album. Highly recommended!
I once bought a white label vinyl in Fat Trax in Bournemouth, late 90's. Put it on the decks in there and bought it on the spot. All it had was 'angel' etched into the middle. Turns out it was this. Love it so much, wish I still had that vinyl
The title of the album is perfect here, it is DnB for old men. You can't make the teenagers bang around with such low energy and minimal sounds. Chill and slow DnB that won't cause you a heart attack.
ay I mean I’m 16 and this is one of my favorite albums of all time
i correct my original statement then. Don't listen to this and think like you have heard DnB; it is Jazz. Your favorite Jazz album of all time. @@sajtban13
lol i'm 18 and i like it
@@sajtban13 is that a Venetian Snares album cover as your pfp ? sweet
I'm 19 and this is some of the most incredibly creative and intriguing DNB I've listened to.
Just my favourite album of all time. Listened to it thousands of times, since I bought it in HMV on Oxford Street probably in 97 when it first came out. Listening to it now in the office 24 years later, still sounds as fresh, imaginative, live and raw as ever.
I had it then too, crazy how time flies.
Luke is so underrated it’s insane
not really ... trent reznor signed him. he did alright.
He's actually hailed by many as a true master. Up there with likes of aphex Twin and squarepusher.
He is only underrated in the states.
@@aviparker4480 By who specifically? Everyone Ive ever met who knows about music like this thinks hes tip top.
Out west definitely is underrated but all of the really pivotal electronic really missed America thats why the scenes are all shit here.
I have listened to countless of drum and bass. I have never ever heard of this before. This is a Masterpiece. Thank you Billy Lapworth for presenting/uploading this.
....here's my favourite of his: ua-cam.com/video/q5Nbkvkl-f0/v-deo.html
I heard a Harold Melvin song the other day that was sampled to make a house song that was on a Humpty Vission record I had many years ago, so I had to go comment about it. I tried to say I "listened to countless hours" but I left the "hours" part off, just as it appears here. Cheers, happy listening.

Greatest Drum 'n' Bass album of all time.
dont forget "the self evident of an intuitive mind" by t.power
@@some_roman Holy crap. Loving this. Any more gems to share like this?

He had a band, "chocolate weasel"
the only cd they released under that name was "spaggetification"
i so with "future bound" and also Luke Vibert work under this aliases: Plug, Wagon Christ, Kerrier District, The Ace Of Clubs, Amen Andrews, Spac Hand Luke, Butler Kiev, Luke Warm
@@some_roman you are totally on the money my friend.
Amazing album, changed my life back in the day. What a trip!
Wow!! What an absolute masterpiece, so many genres into one sound! Mind shattering!
One of my favorites Drum n Bass albums of all time! Creativity, technique, musicality, all good stuff mixed in two vinyl records.
Chime bells in drum and bass… interesting choice, definitely helps bring some uniqueness and flair to this album, there’s a lot of different things going on here
I finally found a copy on Discogs that wasn't asking an extortionate price so finally have an original copy. Never been this happy about owning an album before
Wow have you ever seen more copies? I'm loving this so much
no one else was chopping, eq'ing, editing, arranging, and mastering their samples like vibert was back then. except for maybe photek. and here's one for the heads. look up multiphonic ensemble's king of may. incredible sounds. a little bit sloppier editing and programming, but still worth investing discovery.
I can't find it 😕
@@StevenJamesBurks But I can't find it haha, do you have a link? :)
link didn't show for some reason. reposted above.
Photek is a baby man
Very good recommendation! King of May is great
This album is legendary. I still come back to it after all these years. Luke at his absolute best. Truly mindblowing.

I've been taking some dips back into the DnB world and this is so fucking fun. Thank you for pulling this out for us. I was 12 when this was made.
Absolute banger. The cover art matches so well
What an absolute sheller of an album. Somewhat minimalistic, melodic, masterpiece.
2:48 the way those drums come in bro... give luke vibert his flowers he has many classics under his belt
I had this as a BlockPoster on my wall in high school (2010-ish) and god still to this day nobody does it like Luke. Hell this is the album that solidified my love of DnB. Squarepusher's Go Plastic! was the other one.
Hidden Gem
This is probably the only drum 'n' bass album I like.
Seba and Paradox made quite a decent album. "return to forever"
This is a record I own and cherish, but can never leave out in the open.
I kinda know what you mean. I’m a grind core drummer, but for whatever reason I have the same amount of love and appeal to electronic music that I do to death metal and grind. It’s actually interesting that some of the people out there playing electronic music are huge death metal fans as well. I feel like just like there’s rock and roll and then death metal. There’s there’s techno and then crazy electronic music like this, Aphex twin, and Venetian snares. Check out IGORRR. They mix death metal and electronic music in an awesome sounding way.
Why can't you leave it in the open?

hahahhaha, wonder how many of those mitsubishi commercials influenced others too. Such a beautiful sound that can be hard to find in America unless you're on hold for a call haha
This and T.Power's "The Self Evident Truth Of An Intuitive Mind" are up there as the best D'n'B albums of all time. Huge waves of nostalgia listening to this, I love the Big John Goodman sample from "Barton Fink". Ah, takes me right back to '96 when I was but a nipper ;)

There is something so enticing about the second part of The Life of the Mind...
I can play it during every activities i do & it always perfectly fits. That's a rather strange feeling but at the same time it's very pleasant.
This still sounds like its from the future
This album is wicked. Hugely underrated! Had seen it many times in the stores and overlooked it. 20+ years later and I realize the error of my ways!
What a refreshing reminder to how my era was great haha

I think the coolest part about this album is how the needle would just jump out of the groove as soon as mama walked into the room.
İt's so atmospheric
This is incredible. Why haven't I heard this? New fave mix! Superb 👍
So glad to see this album reuploaded. I used to listen to it after another similar album but it disappeared about 6-8 years ago.
Didn’t realise someone had uploaded it before me. Hope this doesn’t get taken down as well.
Wonderful album, my favourite of the era, beats new forms and anything off metalheadz
Listen to close your eyes by chameleon. I also enjoy the idm era of dnb more. Not that i dont like metalheadz

Amazing! This album deserves full attention
очень хорошо, сразу молодость поперло
I swear, even though this is digital, you can hear the vinyl in the audio quality and it's fookin' amazing.
Probably Luke sampling vinyl.
Drum programming on this is absolutely insane!!! Not all the samples and stuff work but it’s a great varied mix of sounds not usually heard on dnb records…I always say once you’ve heard one dnb record you’ve heard them all but this still sounds fresh today!!

Yeah, Like it a lot
This is a softer D n B style with a sense of humour. I recently started listening to sets by the female DJ duo Kemistry ( RIP ) & Storm and that is a lot harder style although obviously not their own material like Plug
Luke Vibert is fun and genius.
they were dj kiks artists. brought the renegade hardware label up in the late 90s early 00s.
Kenistry and storm? that shit sucks,I gave that CD away,it ain't hard!
