Certainly, you don't know when the gives milk. Dairy cow needs to give birth in a year to keep on giving milk. If the calf is male it is killed and its female she is bred for milk. The male calf is of no use to dairy industry, its meat is too soft for sale so the farmers don't want to spend time and money to feed and let it live. So, that is why vegans prefer to stay away from milk and milk products.
Maybe what you said about the male calf is correct, but that is not the reason why vegans stay off dairy. It's mostly for health reasons, they make a choice to stay off animal products.
