It's good fun, just practice until you are comfortable and then have a go at entering some smaller more chilled races. MIJ Downhill is a good one to try, they mostly use tracks that cater for all abilities and it's a fun event. Or malvern classic festival is coming up in August, that's just a grass hill with no jumps or anything, super chilled and you still get that race feeling
