      7 Years ago, when we made the full switch from 4e to 5e and I also started to DM in DnD, is when your channel and content was a gold mine for me. Always on point, calmly explain, no loud noisy videos, but all just on topic. Exactly what I had a need for at the time and a few more years.
      I realized by now, I wasn't even subbed anymore. I'm not in need for educational videos on DMing or playing DnD specifically. The few DnD "related" channels I follow these days are only 4: Matt Colville, Pointy Hat, Ginny Di, Bob the Builder. (technically some more that focus on writing and/or world building not exclusive to DnD but in general) And I admit, I watch them more for inspiration or even more, just entertainment.
      Thank you so much for the great help you have been!
      Good luck and much joy with the new channel!

    Dude! Damn. The end of an era. I was talking on a live-stream just last week about how amazing you are at running Star Trek, you and Janet casually spouting techno-babble like pros, and how amazing your playing a Klingon is. I'm thrilled you're going to make a channel to geek-out on Star Trek. Much love, my friend. I wish you great success in your new adventures.

      The timing between your last video and Great GM' *last* last video really drives home how much this stupid platform's algorithm is smothering the content I really enjoy in favor of clickbait videos and shorts from twenty-somethings that are actually just thinly-veiled advertisements for their OF pages, doesn't it PDM?

    • @rix1602
      @rix1602 2 дні тому +2

      @@HermieMunster The algorithm is doing it's job. It's not rewarding creators for time, effort or quality. It's rewarding creators for viewer retention and the number of ads you can make them watch. This video probably hit the mark as people that stoped watching his videos because the content do not fit our interest anymore still watched his video. Algorithm think it's a good money cow and promotes it to people that might be interested by this topic.
      That's the sad reallity of youtube and it's neither bad nor good. It's playing capitalism game.

    • @ansamerch
      @ansamerch День тому

      I just found this video randomly, but like the algo rewards watch time, i just looked at his channel, its like 500-1.5k views on videos for like the last year or more, he has 280k subs, clearly he just lost his sub's interest if he cant get even 2% of them to watch his stuff. Its not youtubes fault, like you said the algo rewards retention/watch time, if he isnt making stuff that people want to watch/watch the whole thing, he needs to adapt his content or style.

    When I finished school and moved from a big city to a tiny town, someone walked by my office and invited me to join their TTRPG table with some local friends. I didn't really understand how to build a character, but Guy, you were there over 7 years ago. When we were a few sessions deep and I wanted to improve as a player, you were there. When our forever GM moved away, you were there, and gave me the confidence to step up as the new GM of the party. When I prepped my first session as GM, you were there. Over the years, as our party tried new systems and invited new friends, you were there. From backing and reading your books, to watching your videos, you have taught me - more than any other - such a tremendous wealth of what TTRPGs are all about. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
    After experiencing the fantastic solo Star Trek series you made, I can't wait to see what's next!

      UA-cam is the worst and I truly wish there was a way we could hurt the company as a whole and their pocket book without hurting the creators in the process. It started as a free video sharing platform where you could literally find videos about anything with absolutely zero ads and it has become a greedy, soulless corporate entity where you can’t even say certain words anymore without getting demonetized. Have a channel that talks about or shows guns and you’re finished. Hear music in the background or anything else someone may think belongs to them and your channel gets removed with no real way to defend yourself. Don’t agree with or promote UA-cam/Googles world and political views and your channel gets cast to the shadows so no one can find it. When problems do happen, usually at the fault of UA-cam, creators can’t get any help and are often told “oh well that sucks.” They’ve gotten too big and powerful and they need to be humbled. Unfortunately as I mentioned I don’t know if anyway for that to happen without the creators we all love getting burned in the process.

    One of my favourite moments was directly messaging you about a campaign design problem (ultra-wealthy villain motivation), and you didn't just respond... you literally made a whole episode about it (How to determine what your Villain Wants). That was 6yrs back... and I still haven't started that campaign because of reasons.
    I do also totally get the finite channel thing. I literally started making (bad) videos because I spent a long time in one series of games, and discovered that people just did not understand how the game worked. I uploaded the best I could manage at the time, knew they were bad, still think they're bad, still plan on redoing them... and yet, somehow, despite having not uploaded in over 4yrs... people still inexplicably show up. I will, inevitably, run out of content for that one series, no matter how much hairsplitting I do.
    One story ends, begin again. See you on the adventure channel.

    I started watching your channel in 2017-2018 in preparation to be a GM. I was terrified of running because I was worried about my stories and games not being good enough. I remember taking notes and rewatching videos as I planned out my campaign and individual sessions. You never failed to give me some new insight or advice, whether I knew I needed it or not. I will always be grateful for the confidence you've helped me build over the years and will continue to point any aspiring GMs here. Your way of talking, breaking down concepts, making everything feel simple to understand and execute will always stay in my mind. Thank you so much. May you live long and prosper, Friend

    Man this is crazy. Your channel is what got me back into DMing and got my brother and his friends into the game because of it. Your channel also got me back into writing, world building, ect. It’s just wild to think back on how much finding your channel changed the course of mine and the people close to me’s lives. Watching your videos and becoming better at DMing even helped me greatly with my social anxiety. I wish you luck in any of your future endeavors and just wanted to say thank you for the years of content. Also I may not be the biggest Trek fan just because I never really watched it but I think both channel ideas are good. I’ll definitely be checking them both out.

    I remember finding your channel alongside with other tabletop content channel years and years back now. I've seen so many rise and vanish in that time, so much fun and so much good information within. Yours always stood out to me, and with a few others lived rent free in my mind ever since then. I know you and those others helped shape the way I ran and played games. Your tips and insights guided me, even if often subconsciously.
    Thanks for all the great videos and words on this channel, sincerely. I will assuredly look upon them again from time to time as I continue to run and play games, and even as I now endeavor to write a novel series. You've touched many lives here, mine included, and I hope to pay it forward in the form of great stories. Best of luck on all you do from here onward.

    I was watching the videos here from 2017, I think. Without these videos, I would have never started DMing during the pandemic. So A BIG THANK TO YOU TOO, GUY!
    As for memorable moments, I have puzzled my players with "A king is ill..." ciphered message, which they spent an eternity trying to figure out. And the drow are now using web spider messages as the standard procedure in my games as well. Additionally, my players are now paranoid of a folieraptors. They still check the bushes from time to time, just in case.
    All in all, from all the DnD channels, yours have given me the most ideas over the years. Thank you.

    I nearly cried watching this, dude. Your videos really helped me learn to GM (I've been doing so for nearly four years now). I used your advice on worldbuilding and character design to make my own world and elaborate history. I used your advice on naming things and giving them personality, which has created many spectacular adventures and characters my players loved. I especially used your advice on pacing and plot points (still need to work on that though). To this day, I find even your older videos still relevant and helpful, and I go back to watch them from time to time. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these over the years. Here's hoping your new channels will live long and prosper!

    I can confidently say however, that if it wasn't for this channel and a handful of others, I wouldn't have 10 of my closest friends with whom I've spend nearly that entire time DMing and being a player with.
