Great memories! I was there on the grandstands watching this fantastic race. The CART races were much more exciting than the now a days Indy car competition. Thanks fully we can watch the Champcar races here in youtube.
That was pure poetry.Greg crossed behind Alex and then in front, twice unsettling the aero for Alex , creating an understeer on Alex's Reynard.Greg was the best and by far my favorite, whether it was indy or even sportsracing cars (like the mercedes CLK GT1 he piloted in FIA GT series.) If he had lived who knows what heights he might have reached . I would have loved to have seen him race for Williams or Maclaren.God bless you Greg, wherever you are.
he had the whole in is hands. The next marlboro man. Roger Penske had an ace in his pocket. westwood karting forever. viva Barry Buchanon. Passed away april 99 at a westwood karting race.
The Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway was demolished a very few time ago, in order to make facilities for the upcoming olympics games in the place the track was located. Too sad, a great track and a lot of history got lost.
You would think that with all of the Brazilian interest and participation in IndyCar that there would be a petition to get a race back in Brazil on the scedule.
Those were great moments, because now the track of Rio de Janeiro suffered a "surgery" that killed the both oval and normal tracks for some lazy constructions for the 2007 Pan American Games and the probable final result will be a new track with part of the oval and another part from the normal track. What a pity!

I want those cars back, that is such great racing. And i really want Fittipaldi Speedway back... We know both things will never happen, thats sad :(
Florian Niedermair I completely agree. Those cars looked and sounded so great. The new car is way too quiet
Well Tony George is the reason why cars like this don’t exist.
Was up at the Christ in Rio looking down at that track last year. Will never forget 99
Thanks for posting it champcar4ever. It brings me back the memories...I wanna remember Greg Moore in this way...just see him at the front.
Bob Varsha, Danny Sullivan, Gary Gerould calling a race the way a race should be called. Just how spoiled were we?
R.I.P. Greg Moore. :(
Fantastic racing. Two brilliant drivers. R.I.P. Greg Moore.

Greg Moore and Rio de Janeiro racing track, I miss you!

Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway nowdays is destroyed.
=(
I miss this race being on the schedule. This was always an interesting facility to me. A trapezoid design always was interesting to me.

Miss you, Greg... #RedGlovesRule
It's very sad know that Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway is destroyed. But I thought if CART ran at Nelson Piquet Speedway it would be very exciting.
I saw it last year
Only Moore could do that...
I will like to have a 1/4 of he's talent on driving a car
1:08-1:17 it gives me every time goosebumps

@vitabo Yes it's sad Last year was the tenth anniversary of Greg Moore's crash. Next year is the anniversary of Zanardi losing his legs
Those were great moments, because now the track of Rio de Janeiro suffered a "surgery" that killed the both oval and normal tracks for some lazy constructions for the 2007 Pan American Games and the probable final result will be a new track with part of the oval and another part from the normal track.
What a pity!

@vitabo the speedway got demolished for the 2007 pan-am games and it will be used for the 2016 olympics.
first i didnt liked the irl, too , but in this time it's the best racing series i think :)
@gojenson No I don't. I'm in the San Francisco area and the ABC affiliate here is also channel 7.
Your words are truth
Those were the days. Champ Car, in it's final years was a pale shadow of it's former self
Hehe, Arnd Meier. I wonder what he's up to.
champcar4ever.... do you live in the chicagoland area? i noticed the abc7 logo..
seems like spa 2000 with Hakkinen making a move on Michael Schumacher and ricardo zonta which was lapped!
A horrible accident at California Speedway where he slammed the inside wall
how did he die?
I know, I know I know....damn!
CART the best
@Colddeed still 100 times better than the irl ever was/is.
Best pass in open wheel history!
@vitabo
Emmo's Speedway, destroyed to build Olympic Villa...
Rio de JAneiro fucked up a great track alongside Jacarépaguá Road COurse
