I don't know why I gave this video a watch. It was soothing. Reminds me of the days when I was an electronics nerd back in college before getting away from it to join the military and get into professional fighting. Nostalgia feels good, period.
You right about theory!! I knew a guys with a PHD and he could talk theory all day but when he needed to use a scope and work with real hardware he was lost!
after 42 years in the same company doing various jobs and positions it was more then apparent that as the management team became younger then my children that I was a dinosaur. I had come up through the "school of hard knocks" and most would not recognize the knowledge. The smart ones knew that if they asked for something I would help in any way I could. One day I had a meeting after lunch and got someone to cover. As they started the telecom and my co-workers said I was unavailable so they were covering the call for me. A good friend from the west coast was a participant and he said "oh yeah, he's retired now!" He knew I went to lunch and was not coming back! Life is great retired. :)
Hey IMSAI GUY .... When do we get to SEE the man behind the channel? The secretive “Neighbor Wilson” persona is actually kind of hilarious. 😀 I just love the stories... today I learned legal lessons while watching a true master assemble a clock. What more could I ask of a UA-cam STAR? Seriously.. Thank You!
Comments on comments: I believe that the study of optics is linked to legal studies. I had a year of optics from a PhD in optics, UNLV, I think. After surviving wavefront analysis, I was astounded to have the same guy for a course in surviving malpractice litigation- guy had a JD also. He claimed no difference between optics and law, you just had to abide by the rules. Then, I have this B flat personality and played trumpet for a few years. Interviewed with a symphony to no avail. Apparently they wanted to replace a brass player with someone who didn't have the B flat personality. I enjoy your comments.
08:50 here in Romania everyone writes cursive, the only exceptions are on legal documents and notes meant for other people. I can write cursive a LOT faster than typewriter letters because it feels a lot more natural and cursive (pun intented :) ).
I observed that it goes to 00 from 23 Noted that while going through the schematic 24 would have been cool, but come on... No one is so dumb to understand if 00 is 12 pm or AM Anyway ,Thank you so much man ,enjoyed your jokes and Stories along the way and this video was really informative!! Keep going:)
Its hard to see, but im pretty sure it shows clock A , clock B input, and VDD all hooked to ground .With the clock grounded , it cant work or count with it always grounded. I suppose you wont respond, but if you do I would like to know what you know about the clock set pushbuttons. It looks like the pushbuttons are debounced with a .01 uF capacitor and a diode. If you have any info on a clock set debouncer pushbutton I would like to know how its done. What is the diode for?
A nixie display for the clock would be impressive, or a lot nicer to look at!! I didnt know there was a chip that has 2 counters on 1 chip. I looked up the chip Cd4518 and was trying to figure out how to use it. However using A nixie display is hard because of the noise the H.V. generates.
Are you any good at programming arduino? What exactly are you an expert on? All I see is stuff you play around with. Are there any usefull things youve created other than nixie display? If your actually interested in helping anyone out I have a 3 digit timer using 74ls192 counter chip with alarm decoder. The problem is I cant find how to create bounce free clock set pushbuttons. Ive used the russian driver chip, but digits are flakey. Im building again with transistors driving each digit. also going to use a shield around the high voltage, its built on the board, for the 170vdc the digits need.
Resistors do have to go in a certain way.... the tolerance band either goes on the bottom, or the right. ... I am from this country, the nuns couldn't beat good penmanship into me. My kids (6 and 7) can read cursive yet.... they will though. Oh, i only use fountain pens. @inkneedlastforever
Never boring, skill negates b/s wreather politely or inpolite. The " wire choir", it figures. Always study with the best! Oh, like the clock, good project for us "old timers".

This gentleman has reinvigorated my love of electronics and RF comes!
I have learned more from his videos than in YEARS of classroom attendance.
👍🏻
i just completed this kit. I was a lawyer for 8 years. And I'm a musician. Best video ever. :)

As Beethoven is said to have said:
"To play a wrong note is insignificant, to play without passion is inexcusable"
Awesome video with great stories along the way.
Keep it up and thank you

Bassoonist turned engineer here who had the good fortune of backing up Hillary Hahn once (when she was a teenager) - you're right, she's amazing.
That's mad they actually make kit so cheap with DIP sockets and still make a profit. Nice one. Enjoyed your video and talk :)
Where to buy this one
Every similar one I saw used a single microcontroller
Loved the stories. What an interesting life you have. :)

Seriously..

This was a great video and very relaxing. Thanks for the stories, they were great. The next question - what can we do to modify it!!! 😋
Great vid, thanks. I've just ordered one of these from Bangood!
Edit... it finally arrived. Soldering iron at the ready!

Brother, you got confused there. 00 is midnight and 12 is afternoon.
It's the 12 hour clocks that need AM and PM , 24 hour ones do not.
Well they do look like CMOS chips instead of TTL.

Question you ever get a chance to use the 7400 series ic chips in TTL digital clocks?
yes ua-cam.com/video/pWQZoRg0tpQ/v-deo.htmlsi=Td9T8SN9by8_TUb5
I'm in my 30s, can confirm, I read cursive the same way I listen to german, by guessing at the similarities until I construct a viable sentence.
Hey mate from where did you buy it?
Every similar one I saw used a single micro controller
it's in the description
