We (LDS couple) visited the Red Brick Store, Homestead and Mansion House in May having a lovely time. We enjoyed some $2.30 cold rootbeer. We paid double $10 each for the the tour so as to help more with the upkeep of the museum. Worth every penny! That's good Emma finally got to keep her property during an era when, for a woman, ,owning property was by no means certain .
Lds here but I hope Joseph beat Brigham on the other side with an eternal whooping for how he treated Emma, and for “turning the truth of God into a lie”! Emma was truly an elect lady .
The RLDS view is very skewed! Joseph loved Brigham! No whipping needed! Emma was determined to stay put to be with Lucy and to keep her children safe. Not to mention how weary she must have been with the uncertainty of the move. There might have been disagreements between Brigham and Emma, but he wasn't hateful!!

I admire Emma Smith a lot more after watching Michelle Stone's "132 Problems" UA-cam channel. She succeeds in showing Joseph Smith never practiced nor advocated for polygamy. I can see why Emma did not want to follow the Saints out west.
Emma has much to be admired for. Michelle Stone is a friend of mine, but she is 100% wrong on Joseph's practice of polygamy. She needs to learn historical methods and quit believing everything she disagrees with is a forgery. Please look at peer-reviewed sources. Even Dr Mark Scherer knows Joseph practiced polygamy, despite his church denying the fact for 100 years.
CoC (RLDS) is very very different theologically, structurally, financially and culturally from LDS. If Emma had say died of illness or in childbirth much earlier than she did, I imagine the path of the two churches would have been very different.

Brigham Young, 10/6/1886, at the SLC Tabernacle: "To my certain knowledge Emma Smith is one of the damnest liars I know of on this earth; yet there is no good thing I would refuse to do for her, if she would only be a righteous woman."
Do you remember back in the late 70's or early 80's when the church made an announcement to stop bad talking about Emma? I joined the church in '76 and I can clearly remember that there was a negative atmosphere around anything Emma. I seem to remember the feeling was that she somehow was disloyal to Joseph for not going out west and then remarrying. I wish I could remember better what year SLC said this.
@@boysrus61 I was blessed to grow up in the church. And maybe I was sheltered a little, with certain topics within the church. It was a very small town in CA. Why not? Of course, I lean towards learning ALL the history, regardless of whether it is pro-church or not. Church leaders have no obligation to placate me, but I like to know what happened.
The World Church Conferences for Community of Christ have been three year cycles for a bit now, but interrupted by COVID-19. Now it seems we might be back to 2 years, with our covid19 delayed conference this year 2023, and a new one being called for 2025 to accept/approve the newly called prophet/president.

I have heard many good and favorable stories about Emma. Am LDS.
I think the 1970s was the pivotal decade. Emma's comeback was in the 1980s. She was still talked poorly of in the 1960s. 70 s was mixed.

I don’t know what you mean, that these stories weren’t around about Emma’s 2nd husband in the lds church. I’ve heard them for decades

I wonder how Mark feels about the Kirtland temple and all the most recent purchases by the LDS church?
