Lee I noticed when copying over the new SDcard version on the your video here that the Drive H (SDcard ) was full (old files) then empty when new files started copying. I'm getting card needs more space error while copying to (merging) with old files, did you have to empty the current SDcard before copying over the new ones? BTW thank you for the videos and the help you've provided so far.
So I've received my Radiomaster two weeks ago, i'm a noob though starting on a sim, however I've been every day doing research about this hobby for about 4 months now, and i'm not working. I've installed beta flight, Inav and more mostly thanks to this series and some reading on GIThub. Apparently they are releasing a version in December (same product tx16s) but with colour options and a two hole lanyard, a foldable handle that is longer. However, I have no regrets because the manufacturer is good and they provide all of the parts, great service and they listen to their customers, so I'm pretty sure i can upgrade some of the newer counterparts if i wanted to in the future! ps: great work on your videos, I'm commenting as a part to remind myself to watch some series of your vids such as INAV and some goggle reviews.

Great series and just at the right time for me with a new RM here! I didn't have much luck with the firmware update though. Using a Mac here and although it shows the firmware has been flashed when I start again the radio starts as normal with no calibration required and the models are still in the radio. I'm on the latest Firmware so no problem, but will see what happens when the next OTX update comes out.

Update about mine, got in touch with Banggood yesterday, they said they were getting new stock by the 17, I said that if it wasn’t sent soon I would ask for my money back and probably never get anything from them ever again. Low and behold, I got a message today saying that it’s been sent, YAY!
Update on that update, it’s after midnight and my radio should arrive today, but I have to go out for a while, in which case it should be dropped off at the local post office, can barely wait. I’m getting excited.
Finding it all rather frustrating 😒...New tx16 yesterday, started up with all the warning messages you'd expect ...and graphics... now I just get storage warning, bad radio data . .and none of the graphics . When you shut the unit down it has horizontal bars depicting shut down rather than the ring of bars if that helps? I've plugged it into my pc and telling me I need to format my e drive which I presume is the sd card but don't want to risk it as I fo not know what's on it already. Any advice ?
QUESTION? I have the RadiomasterTX16S and I am not finding RSSI as a source in Inputs. I'm familiar with the QX7 and T16. Both of those radios have RSSI, rssi+, rssi- as an option; However, this does not.. Your help is appreciated...👍🏻🍻👊🏻
Thank you so much for the video on this process. I opened up my TX16S and adjusted the gimbals and installed the T16 folding handle on it, and proceeded to follow the instruction you laid out for us. The process was a success, but afterwards I found that it was no longer being recognized as a USB drive when I selected that option upon plugging it in. Any hint on how to correct this?
great vid, does 2.3.9 have a helicopter sub section / wizard like the older optx software did ?? was disappointed that the factory software was only glider / plane ?
When trying to copy the downloaded SD files to the SD card on the radio, I get an error message: There is not enough space on the USB Drive. You need an additional 55.5 MB to copy these files. USB Drive Space free: 89.6 MB, Total size 239 MB. I think the SD card is 2GB. Do I need to increase the size? Do I repartition the SD card?
If you need more room you can remove all of the files for the languages you don't need from the /SOUNDS directory (remember to backup the card before you start deleting stuff in case you delete something you need ;) )
Hi Lee, Greetings from the Netherlands and thank you for your video support. Question concerning disconnecting the radio from the computer. Is save disconnect on the right bottom corner necessary or is disconnecting the radio by only pull the C USB connector allowed without damaging the software. Thanks for your support.
Thank you Lee, (hardware save disconnect of both drives in Windows in the right bottom corner on the taskbar) does not damage the software content in the radio.
Came just a bit too late for me as I fumbled my way through on Friday! Very slow start (I'm used to Spektrum) but, with the aid of your 12 part series and some fiddling, I am now very comfortable and adding models thick and fast. I'm going to leave my flapped glider, where I want all sorts of modes, to the end!
Hi. I did exactly as you did in the video. But now I cannot access the sd card from the computer. I choose SD mode after connecting the usb and no mass storage appears in windows. I have TX16S bootloader in the device manager instead (( I have tried differenrt sd card, different firmware, I updated MPM.

It depends on the size of the card you have. Deleting all of the language files you don't need (I leave only the EN directory) can save a lot of space. Happy flying!

Hi why use full openTX vs radio master firmware version? is it not identicle but with added contects that you would normally use anyway like inav lua etc..
If the supplied one works for you then you don't need to upgrade. Having options to swap to Opentx or something else lets you take advantage of new features and improvements. Happy flying
Hey @Painless360 I attempted this and it seems to be running opentx 2.3.9 however it will not show up as a removable drive on my pc when I turn it on, plug in usb-c, and select storage. I replaced the SD card altogether so I started from scratch, with the old SD and radiomaster TX i'm pretty sure it allowed me to to this, however now the only way to get the removable drive to show up is to enter bootloader mode. Any advice?
I have been using Taranis x9d+ for many years now. What do you suggest as a good replacement for my taranis. I need it to be able to accept jr modules so I can use my crossfire and also a color screen so I can see the ardupilot telemetry in colors.

Not a lot of ideas, sorry. I've only used EdgeTX in a limited way here so and the video shows the steps I used that worked for me here. I'd look at restoring the OpenTX backup and trying again. Best of luck!

The rubber on the bottom, that protects the usb and microSD connectors, has a protuding that prevents to leave the transmitter in vertical position in a estable way... Is it mine only? It is a minor issue, but I cann't really understand it how it has been designed in that way...
I have just flashed OpenTX onto this and are liking it so far, BUT this is replacing my HorusX12S and is like black and white, I fly Planes Helicopters, Quads and rather expensive models and its got me a little jumpy to say the least changing to a cheap transmitter, looks can be deceiving as for quality and I hope the T16S proves to me its good quality, I almost considered selling both today to get the X10S Express but are just going to keep the Horus for the expensive models until the RadioMaster has proven itself to me, would you fly expensive models with The Radiomaster?
With any new radio it can take time to get up the levels of confidence that you have with an radio you've had for a while. These radios are very new so how they will fair over the longer term will only be shown with time. With that said, the issues with the T16 radio from last year has already surfaced and so far (touch wood) this radio doesn't seem to have the same issues. Personally, I'm getting more and more used to it. For the more expensive models I'd be tempted to use an FrSky Module in the bay but I'm sure with a little more flying my confidence levels will be at the point that I would consider this to become my daily driver..
This is great thanks - but I had a few problems with the process as I am using MacOS (e.g.when writing the firmware I had the message 'could not read firmware on radio'. Can you do a MacOS version or direct me to some instructions?
I followed this video twice but still get the stock radiomaster opentx splash screen and no request to calibrate but, in version it says 2.3.9-otx (60e1edc1). Has it actually flashed? I'd appreciate some advice please
Any help greatly appreciated just got radiomaster ts16s did everything off the video on windows 10 drivers for some reason it wont recognize as a controller/joystick it only list it as mass storage device but it pops up as portable devices not even in the usb area haven't updated open tx it's all stock even when I open it into open tx it will read it but only as a mass storage device it says no joystick found
Hi. Just received my TX16s today. I did a backup of everything and tried to update the firmware following your video step by step, but I get an error message "cannot write E:\\FIRMWARE.BIN (reason: Unknown error)" when trying to write the firmware to the radio. Any idea ? :(

Please help. My tx16s suddenly went on emergency mode and i dont know how to fix it. It tried reflashing firmware and found that the multi module bin file is not working but opentx firmware is. When i select multi-stm-opentx-aetr-noinv-v1.3.1.65.bin it says "not a valid firmware file.
@@Painless360 thank you that i will check tomorrow. Power button wont work when in emergency mode screen will turn off but will come back on once power button is released. I was lucky after pressing power button repeatedly finally was able to boot properly i check everything and all is normal. i go and succesfully flashed latest multi module v1.3.1.65. Thinking it's good i put ut box in the box then after 5mins i hear the welcome to opentx i power off and again same issue... back to emergency mode and it will not turn off i just remove the battery completely and will check again tomorrow. I was thinking my power button is broken or there is something that cutting the power i say this because ive searched online and some experienced the same after the accidentally removed the battery. I did not removed my battery so i was thinking power failure but not sure. I will check first the models i only have 1 active which is for the eachine us65pro but i also add one for the mini talon that might be the problem.
I updated the firmware in my TX16S and have got myself in trouble. (New user who didn’t back up the SD card 😕) I’ve lost the default model and now have no input from the gimbals. The switches and pots work ok. I also downloaded and updated the SD card but still no default model or gimbal inputs. Any ideas on how I get the gimbals to work please?
No idea why the gimbals are not working. Make sure you've flashed it with the right firmware. All steps are in the video. Failing that I'd try a calibration. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Thanks, I’ll give it a try. I can see them working in the radio simulation in companion so it’s not a hardware problem. If I download the original SD card contents will that get the default model back? The gimbals are fine when I calibrate them.
Guessing it may be built in as "internal radio" and no longer an option? it's been awhile and I do remember having to specify it. But do not see this as a build option in your video and it is indeed a feature I need in the radio.
Wow this vid came at the perfect time. I've been considering the tx16s and the ACCESS qx7. Do you know if the crossfire issue has been fixed on the 2019 qx7 with ACCESS
same issues, I unplug usb without click "safe removable" and then my tx16s changing like factory reset, my model has lost. I try to upgrade firmware, calibrate, and bind again with my receiver xm+, can binding normaly but can't arming. I check on betaflight, the AUX didn't respone. but the pitch, yaw, roll, throttle are respone. anyone can help me?
@@Painless360 I wanted to update, I use the switches in the right direction. I formatted the sd and restored the backup.Everything works, only the bootloader screen is missing.
Lets see a tutorial for using the TX16S with RF9! Last time I tried I still couldn't get most of the switches to work. Couldn't map reset or mode functions.

So put a fire under their arses and they’ll send it very soon.
Computer will not connect to Radio, just comes up as USB device not recognized error code 43 Have tried two different windows 10 pc's with same problem.
Why can't they just make something that can plug straight into the radio that will put any updates on it through WiFi. It would be so much easier, wouldn't it? I'm not good on computers.
I too recently brought the radio yesterday and charged with the "2s 6800mah lion 3.7v " along with the inbuilt 18650 tray, after charged and power on having the battery drain 7.6v to 3.6v in 1min!!! anyone faced this or any idea please??

See my review of the radio, I cover that there. The original O/S was a version of OpenTX and no longer needed as it's supported out of the box..

I don't disconnect the radio until the saving of the file is complete in companion. Once it is then you can unplug..

I did some investigation today. The USB connection was broken and that's the reason why it wouldn't link up.
Pasting the new folders , does it overwrite the old folders you had ?
Hi can you jump updates, as in from original release version to latest version - or do you have to go through them all ? cheers in advance.

So you can get a fingernail in there to open it.

Need help regarding t16s and betaflight after doing the setup and binding receiver input all responding. At throttle up motors not spinning .

I have just flashed OpenTX onto this and are liking it so far, BUT this is replacing my HorusX12S and is like black and white, I fly Planes Helicopters, Quads and rather expensive models and its got me a little jumpy to say the least changing to a cheap transmitter, looks can be deceiving as for quality and I hope the T16S proves to me its good quality, I almost considered selling both today to get the X10S Express but are just going to keep the Horus for the expensive models until the RadioMaster has proven itself to me, would you fly expensive models with The Radiomaster?
With any new radio it can take time to get up the levels of confidence that you have with an radio you've had for a while. These radios are very new so how they will fair over the longer term will only be shown with time. With that said, the issues with the T16 radio from last year has already surfaced and so far (touch wood) this radio doesn't seem to have the same issues. Personally, I'm getting more and more used to it. For the more expensive models I'd be tempted to use an FrSky Module in the bay but I'm sure with a little more flying my confidence levels will be at the point that I would consider this to become my daily driver..
Hello, I did the SD card update with companion, there is a icon in the top right with an SD card, this way I didn't lose any model settings

Do I need to update the bootloader as well? (I usually did on the Taranis, but didn't really know if I needed to!).

This is great thanks - but I had a few problems with the process as I am using MacOS (e.g.when writing the firmware I had the message 'could not read firmware on radio'. Can you do a MacOS version or direct me to some instructions?

I followed this video twice but still get the stock radiomaster opentx splash screen and no request to calibrate but, in version it says 2.3.9-otx (60e1edc1). Has it actually flashed? I'd appreciate some advice please

Any help greatly appreciated just got radiomaster ts16s did everything off the video on windows 10 drivers for some reason it wont recognize as a controller/joystick it only list it as mass storage device but it pops up as portable devices not even in the usb area haven't updated open tx it's all stock even when I open it into open tx it will read it but only as a mass storage device it says no joystick found

Hi. Just received my TX16s today. I did a backup of everything and tried to update the firmware following your video step by step, but I get an error message "cannot write E:\\FIRMWARE.BIN (reason: Unknown error)" when trying to write the firmware to the radio. Any idea ? :(
You could try it with the radio off... see in the forums... best of luck

Please help. My tx16s suddenly went on emergency mode and i dont know how to fix it. It tried reflashing firmware and found that the multi module bin file is not working but opentx firmware is. When i select multi-stm-opentx-aetr-noinv-v1.3.1.65.bin it says "not a valid firmware file.
One of the models you've copied across maybe causing the issue. I'd hook it up to Opentx and have a look.. Best of luck
@@Painless360 thank you that i will check tomorrow. Power button wont work when in emergency mode screen will turn off but will come back on once power button is released. I was lucky after pressing power button repeatedly finally was able to boot properly i check everything and all is normal. i go and succesfully flashed latest multi module v1.3.1.65. Thinking it's good i put ut box in the box then after 5mins i hear the welcome to opentx i power off and again same issue... back to emergency mode and it will not turn off i just remove the battery completely and will check again tomorrow. I was thinking my power button is broken or there is something that cutting the power i say this because ive searched online and some experienced the same after the accidentally removed the battery. I did not removed my battery so i was thinking power failure but not sure. I will check first the models i only have 1 active which is for the eachine us65pro but i also add one for the mini talon that might be the problem.
Can this open TX bind Android App control drone ? Like zerotach Dobby or winsland drone , JJRC ? If not so please feedback to company .

I updated the firmware in my TX16S and have got myself in trouble. (New user who didn’t back up the SD card 😕)
I’ve lost the default model and now have no input from the gimbals. The switches and pots work ok.
I also downloaded and updated the SD card but still no default model or gimbal inputs.
Any ideas on how I get the gimbals to work please?
No idea why the gimbals are not working. Make sure you've flashed it with the right firmware. All steps are in the video. Failing that I'd try a calibration. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Thanks, I’ll give it a try. I can see them working in the radio simulation in companion so it’s not a hardware problem. If I download the original SD card contents will that get the default model back? The gimbals are fine when I calibrate them.
While you were selecting build options it looked like multimodule was completely missing.
Did I miss something?
Guessing it may be built in as "internal radio" and no longer an option? it's been awhile and I do remember having to specify it. But do not see this as a build option in your video and it is indeed a feature I need in the radio.
The 4in1 is internal and part of the radio.. Happy flying!

Wow this vid came at the perfect time. I've been considering the tx16s and the ACCESS qx7. Do you know if the crossfire issue has been fixed on the 2019 qx7 with ACCESS
The slow issues with Crossfire are hardware related. Sadly Frsky continue to install the slow inverter in their radios.. Sigh.

same issues, I unplug usb without click "safe removable" and then my tx16s changing like factory reset, my model has lost.
I try to upgrade firmware, calibrate, and bind again with my receiver xm+, can binding normaly but can't arming. I check on betaflight, the AUX didn't respone. but the pitch, yaw, roll, throttle are respone.

@@Painless360 I wanted to update, I use the switches in the right direction. I formatted the sd and restored the backup.Everything works, only the bootloader screen is missing.

@@Painless360 T1,T4 switch inwards hold and turn on main switch.
Lets see a tutorial for using the TX16S with RF9! Last time I tried I still couldn't get most of the switches to work. Couldn't map reset or mode functions.

Bernie o'connor , if it’s from Banggood I had been waiting for over a month and was getting very annoyed, so I got into their customer service and said if it wasn’t delivered soon I would be asking for my money back and probably never use them again. That was yesterday and they said they would be receiving a new batch by the 17th. Low and behold I got a message saying it’s been shipped today. So put a fire under their arses and they’ll send it very soon.

Computer will not connect to Radio, just comes up as USB device not recognized error code 43
Have tried two different windows 10 pc's with same problem.
Sounds like a driver issue. Windows 10 is notorious for messing up drivers. I'd delete the device in Device Manager and plug the radio back in..
@@Painless360 Got it to work by using a different USB type 3 cable.The one that came with the radio was no good.

Why can't they just make something that can plug straight into the radio that will put any updates on it through WiFi. It would be so much easier, wouldn't it? I'm not good on computers.
I too recently brought the radio yesterday and charged with the "2s 6800mah lion 3.7v " along with the inbuilt 18650 tray, after charged and power on having the battery drain 7.6v to 3.6v in 1min!!! anyone faced this or any idea please??
I've never seen that. If the battery is ok then it sounds like the radio is unhappy. I'd contact the vendor..

I've not seen that. Just press the power button for a few seconds (with the trims held) then let go.. Don't keep it pressed
