    I've already bought it and tested it as well, in my case in VR. That gives the plane another boost in realism. It is really one of the best small aircraft in the Sim, maybe the best. I personally miss a tablet, where I can adjust things like weights / passengers, random failure simulation, as we have seen in so many other aircraft. Nevertheless, it will become likely my favorite plane in this class. Excellent video, btw! Well made, good explanations. Maybe you could share some flight lessons with that particular plane to us Simmers. You've spoilered already a couple of maneuvers, that students have to master, like steep turns, engine failures, stall events. 🙂 I think, it could be very beneficial for many of us, to get some additional background about these things!

      A tablet would be good, but I don’t think it’s too bad to be without one for a small aircraft like this. I’ll be sure to do lots more videos and streams with this aircraft, so be sure to tune in!

    What a great contribution to the community! I've learned a lot about the aircraft and how to fly it. Love all the real-flying tips and references. Great to see it handles realistically in stalls and other maneuvers too. A couple of things I noticed: The nose seems to be moving up and down in a somewhat jerky way. I've seen this in other videos showing the Da42 in MSFS too. You mentioned you had a good stick so I wonder what's causing this not too smooth movement of the nose ? Also, a lot of the landings I've seen on YT seem abrupt in how the plane drops onto the runway, especially the front gear, and that's with low vertical speeds on touchdown. Is there a tendency for the nose to drop quickly or what do you think is causing this ?

    • @FlyFromHome
      @FlyFromHome  5 місяців тому

      Thanks for the comment! I think that’s mostly just my rubbish flying and being a bit out of trim a lot of the time, combined with the MSFS thermals. The nose tends to drop fairly rapidly after touchdown in real life too as the T tail loses authority, unless you consciously keep a lot of back pressure in to prevent it. If you want a really smooth touchdown you can leave a small amount of power in until the main gear touches down.

    That was a great video, thank you very much! Really insightful. I just thought you were a tiny bit unkind to Working Title, the "hurry up and fix the G1000" makes it sound like they're slacking off which is clearly not the case. Great plane. Only faults - the state saving and damage is sketchy. Had it done, and the latest update seems to have broken it (as in I just cannot get it to come up on the display now even as an option). I also think no EFB in 2024 is a huge oversight. Pretty standard fare now.

      There's a big update coming soon which should sort that issue. With regard to the EFB, the COWS team is a very small outfit and had to prioritise their time. Running commentary on your video. ;) Diamond doesn't seem to be suffering much from any recessions (though they did have to sell the company to China, which left them as autonomous entity, still producing in Austria and Canada - that for the inevitable "Chinese crap" troll posters). They are backlogged on orders: for fun I asked about a 62 and was told back in early 2023 that I would take delivery in early 2026. 😆
    Interesting to hear your endorsement of the -62 by mrtommymxr, compared to the default one, as I wouldn't be able to compare to the real aircraft, not having AU$3million lying about in the sofa cushions.
    Not wanting to detract from the video topic, also intrigued to hear your comments about stall/spin attributes, including and especially in single engine, which made me go: HOW? How did Diamond manage to make the nightmare scenario or Vs>Vmc a non-issue? Asymmetric thrust at low speeds doesn't magically go away, so how is it managed/prevented? Which ties into the (on paper) amazingly good single-engine performance, even with "mere" 170hp engines. Compare this to something like a Grumman Cougar which, although lighter than a TwinStar, is a bit of a death-trap with its 160hp engines (as sadly the Rebuild Rescue guys found out the tragic way). This even more so in the -62 than the -42, it seems, where you give a bit of rudder trim and up to 12,000ft or so, you are just merrily flying along on one engine as if it were a C172 Landomatic!
    I do think that WT has been neglecting the G1000 a bit. Looking at their release notes, it's a lot of bug fixing, which is of course great, but lately very little adding of the still long list of missing features.

    • @FlyFromHome
      @FlyFromHome  5 місяців тому +1

      Good info regarding Diamond, glad to hear they’re doing well!
      Yeah I was very saddened by the Rebuild Rescue crash, they were one of my favourite channels to watch. Regarding the aerodynamics, I think you’d need someone far smarter and better qualified than me to explain that one! I suppose it’s something to do with the management of the separated airflow and having a huge amount of directional stability? I have heard of a Diamond getting into a spin before due to extreme mishandling along with overloading, but the crew all survived thanks to the fantastic strength of the crash structure.

    • @michaelhoffmann2891
      @michaelhoffmann2891 5 місяців тому +1

      @@FlyFromHome IIRC, I stumbled over some Diamond videos of them making them spin (-40s, not the twins though) and it saying that it just about required trained pilots to *MAKE* them spin, because it's otherwise near impossible. While I can see that in a single, you would think in a twin you can always force the issue: asymm thrust, ailerons at wrong moment, such as right when you have a bit of wing drop. But I can't even find a video on spin demonstrations of either a -42 or a -62. I'm willing to start a GoFundMe to buy a -62 and undergo all the training to test this! I'm selfless that way! 😆

    • @FlyFromHome
      @FlyFromHome  4 місяці тому

      The linkage is flexible similar to the one on smaller Cessnas. This creates an effect where the nosewheel can follow cambers or taxiway lines independent of steering input, as in a castering system. It also allows you to move the rudder when the aircraft is stationary on the ground, unlike aircraft with hard mechanical linkages like the Pa28.
