The creatures of the deep Abyss don't actually "see the future", they predict it. Nanachi says it, the field is so reactive that even unconscious thought creates ripples. The creatures can interpret those ripples to see what you're thinking, in a sense.
That's why Reg was able to out maneuver the Piercer, because he began moving erratically. He gave the Piercer incorrect information by making it see his intention to move up, while he was actually moving to the right, which was where the Piercer had dodged to.
I'm not sure if you guys play fighting games like Street Fighter at all, but it's not seeing the future, it's reading your inputs.
I always thought of the ripples as waves, with the curse being the medium it travels through. In which case, certain creatures below can sense the curse (like Nanachi) but humans cannot. So if you feel the electromagnetic wave through the curse, it translates that with its senses to predict their thought process and movement. Almost like if you close your eyes and can feel the sun's heat, knowing that its probably light ect. The waves effect you a certain way, thus your body interprets that as light or the sun ect.
That being said, i also thought the way Nanachi did was simple: just told Reg what to do in an instant, and Reg follows so the monster can't predict where he's going since Nanachi is far away and doing the thinking. These are all hypothetical, its just the way i interpreted it. lol
Yeah, I think "they can see the future" is a figure of speech for Nanachi. They can predict the future because they can read your consciousness and predict how you move. It's not like they can actually pry into the threads of fate.
Except the curse literally reads your mind. The way to avoid it is to not know what you're going to do yourself.
Hey shut up with all the *RUMBLING* out there. It sounds really *SCIENTIFIC*
Is it triumphant tho?

*We don't know if Lyza actually wanted Riko to come down into the Abyss.*
Remember what *Ozen said* a couple episode ago? *That note* for Riko about how she is waiting at the bottom of the Abyss *wasn't in Lyza's handwriting.* It could just be some kind of extremely intelligent predator that's trying to lure more victims down for all we know.
I do however like the theory that the Abyss could close in the future. Especially because the whole Abyss really looks like the mouth of a gigantic creature in the map of the Abyss that we see all the time. I noticed that since the beginning but somehow never thought about the possibility that it might actually close its mouth if it is indeed one giant creature.
the super smart predator would be an awesome twist.
I love how they explain the Curse Im sure someone has explained before but its based off Decompression Sickness of Deep Sea Divers AKA the Bends. The Pressure of the Ocean and gas that inserts itself in your body can produce actual bubbles in your body. The Sickness can give you Damaged Joints, Nausea, Vomiting, Involuntary Bowel Movement, Even possible Spine Damage or Skin Lesions. It makes sense that you can traverse through the curse like how Divers can slowly ascend to prevent the sickness.
This is only speculation I havent read the manga but I think The 6th layer has such an Intense Pressure that if you survive down there your body permanently adapts. Therefore its the Last Dive because humans cant go back up afterwards.
666melodeath666 You are genius
Milly KawaiiKitty Thanks but like I said people have said this before The second paragraph is the only thing i can take credit for. Check out Pendantic Romantic and his video on Made in Abyss he goes in depth with the inspirations the author had.
I was gonna say Ped Ro did a real good video on the topic. Also, the sixth layer is my favorite part of the story yet.
Jesse Holt Well yeah thats what the show says it is im just saying where the author got the inspiration for that concept
Your second paragraph is interesting. Don't know if it's true or not, but it's interesting...
_The rumbling of triumphant scientific progress intensifies_

HERE COMES THE PAIN TRAIN
HERE COMES THE PAIN TRAIN
brace yourselfs... best dad incomig...
Papa Bon really is a great villain.
looking forward to Bone Daddy
Araragi Koyomi Not as good of a dad as shou tucker (hope I spelled that right)
Nah, Tucker is close second to daddy Bondrewd.
Dex believe me, Bondrewd is WAY worse
I'm kind of surprised they didn't catch the point during the after-talk about the fact that the antidote was created by injecting Mitty.
:( been tortured like fuck
My guess is that the Abyss is an "organism" in the reverse way of how we understand it. That is to say, we, as organisms, are made up of millions of micro organisms, but we view them all as a part of a whole.
It's difficult to explain, but let's say that the creatures and features of the Abyss are all like skin cells, organs, or the creatures in a gut biome. However, at the scale we experience it, they are individual creatures. I don't think the Abyss is a creature as we understand it, but can be seen as one? An environment which has systems and elements to sustain and preserve itself and it's functions. That is to say, if we are single being that are actually made up of other creatures, then the Abyss is a collective of creatures that together form one entity.
I don't know if I'm explaining the difference right, but I'm trying to say the Abyss isn't really a creature, as far as my guesses go. It's alive in the same way you could say that stars are alive. Stars die and their deaths pollinate new stars. If we existed on a macroscopic level, we may very well view them as we view cellular life.
So I think the Abyss is alive in that sense. Though who knows what we'll learn about it as we go deeper.
EDIT: I suppose that, in the way that microorganisms aren't just like regular organisms on a smaller scale, a macroorganism like the Abyss isn't just a massive regular animal. At a certain size, the very nature of things change.
I think that the term you're looking for is 'Mega-organism'.
If the Abyss is doing a "Big Feed" I'd imagine that it's just on the scale of Orth. I think that, if that's what's happening, then what we'd see is the opening widen like a sinkhole, and the whole island is just gone.
And then in 2000 years when people find it again, there's suddenly a dead civilization on the second layer that used to be Orth.
I'm not wholly convinced that's what's going on, but if that is the case, I'd say that's the more likely scenario.
Fools no one is ready
Funny you should mention its like a game... apparently the creator of the story was a game creator in the past and theres a theory that this whole story is just a re-purposed idea from a game he wanted to make.
32:21 that's the possibility that scares me the most. It's some monster or, since we know of the transformative abilities of the abyss, the 7th (And 8th if it exists?) layers must be completely alien and defy comprehension, the amount of change they must inflict on the things around them, perhaps ESPECIALLY humans..I highly doubt Lyza is Lyza anymore. So either it's not Lyza who wrote it, or it's something that USED to be Lyza.
You have to do a full reaction of the next episode!
The Black Swordsman it's the finale thoooo :(
The Black Swordsman well also they don’t want people posting spoilers
The Black Swordsman I mean if they did a timer, it would work out for sure.
They recorded MiA a while ago and used the old recording style for it, so they can't do timer reactions.
The Black Swordsman it could be that, but I doubt it, athough there are a lot of people asking for full reaction(which has to be with a timer cause copyright) there are also others, like myself, who doesn't want a timer because syncing is a pain in the ass, and not everyone wants to watch people watch a show for 50 minutes.
wish they could just do both, they try to do the 10 minute footage by default it's not like it would be any extra effort to also post raw footage with a timer slapped on it.
I remember them during episode 10 saying "how are they going to top this?"
*nanachi and bondrewd laughing their asses off in the distance*
Next episode would be tough to watch.
i just can't wait for the finale! still, great reaction and discussion as always guys!!
Edit: Great theory revolve Mitty and Nanachi !! would love to discuss more when you guys finishes it! *we have ALOT TO TALK ABOUT*

When I watched the first episode of this, someone asked me what I thought was at the bottom of the Abyss, and I asked them if they knew what an antlion is.
To be fair I read so much cosmic horror that I'm kind of always expecting (hoping for?) any piece of media to go full eldritch at the drop of a hat.
Also the lowest part of the map they keep showing us looks like a penguin throat, with inverted spines to keep the fishes getting away.
I think one of the most interesting aspects of the show too is that the Abyss itself is a character. There's a lot to unpack there.
While it is interesting to consider how the Abyss functions or what it is. It is important to keep in mind that things pertaining to the Abyss are meant to be symbolic. The further into the Abyss you go, the harder it is to get out of it. The further down you are in, the worse the effect is. If we viewed this symbolically as depression (just an example as I am sure this is not the exact symbolism), the point where they are now would be the point of bringing harm to yourself as a cry for help. The reason it is not depression though is that all things want to go into the abyss rather than not having a choice.
I'm revisiting this series, so it's not like this is a mystery to me... But Caleb nails it again. His early predictions are sometimes totally nuts, but once in a while those totally nuts ideas are *exactly* the message the serious is trying to reach. Bravo.
In case you guys didn't know, Mother's Basement made a video about Made in Abyss where he talks about it being like a video game. You should check it out.
I love how their opinion about Ozen changed so much after some episodes
I wonder if they know its an hour long finale...? they mentioned nothing about it in this episode and people have been saying they want the full length reaction for the finale from the beginning of the show.
"it's the idea that"
Only one more episode left! The big finale, please, you need to react to this immediately. Oh boy this is going to be great.
Destiny Warlock-cosplaying dad incoming!
You betcha!
*Muffled subarashii in the distance~*
Happy Valentine's Day guys!
Lotta scientific triumph rumbles going through the comments. Y'all behave.
Get ready guys...the bros are about to get hit with a new level of pain and suffering.
I am both parts excited and worried.
I love this best dad joke that’s going around because after watching the final episode they still probably won’t understand
Now you're almost done guys. Only one tearjerker episode left.😊
Haha I love hearing your ideas on what might happen. FEEEEED

Nobody can ever be prepared for episode 13, I read the manga beforehand and I knew what was about to happen but i still cried like a little bitch... :'(
Nanachi>Riko
Please 2 part the next ep I BEG I’m not old enough to pay to support patron so please 2 parter
When they left the orphanage, Kiyuis birthday was 2 days away. Is the time dilation really that strong?
You guys are in for one hell of a ride, in the next episode. Good luck. Also, I can't wait for season 2, reading the manga was a mistake! :P
the necklace reg had a flashback about was lying next to him during ep 1, Riko picked it up and everything, how did you forget that?
Episode 13 is fantastic
Yo patrons, are they doing 2 videos for the 2 halves of episode 13?
I imagine their vid(s) for the last ep would be appearing for you guys to watch around about now, and IIRC they edit and cut down their reactions with episode footage down to about 10 mins for the sake of the whole copyright 'fair use' thing. Could you provide some insight for us plebs?
I'm not demanding anything from them, I'm just curious as to how they're handling the double-length episode in terms of their videos. Since most eps are 24 minutes long and MIA Ep13 is 48 minutes, doing 2 parts seemed a sensible conclusion with their usual format of cutting down 24 mins to 10 mins.
The Black Swordsman "Actively avoid interaction despite the low amount of comments", no that's just because the comments usually aren't spoiler free. And the entire "greed" thing makes alot is assumptions without much basis.
"I don't know how you expect them to do any differently" - because Ep13 is a uniquely long episode, that's why. If fair use applies to 10 minutes of footage in videos, just do two videos with 10 minutes of footage, as I said.
Comment sections are always dangerous places for reaction channels, spoilers and hints thrown out without proper consideration are a common threat to their viewing experiences. Hence, they wisely avoid them.
They do have a discord and such for patreon supporters and in Q&A streams they have their trusted mods and such pick things out for them to respond to. Discussions happen there. It's a safer, smarter way of doing things, really.
I'd say you're being needlessly distrustful of them. They don't need to bow down to every subscriber and listen to each and every whim in the comment section, they just have to provide the content expected of them. They've been doing that. AFAIK they haven't been doing stuff like locking the second half of each reaction vid behind a paywall or anything. There's no real problem.
Honestly really excited and really dreading the next episode..
Oh you guys are so damn perceptive. I just sorta watched xD. Awesome vid!
The finale is almost an hour , so it's like watching three regular episodes at once , i hope you don't cut that much from the finale :")
oya oya oya what's this? this... this *wonderful* feeling?
I hope you can make the next video longer than usual as the episode is 48 minutes instead of 24. Or maybe have a full episode reaction with a timer.
Could you guys do a Full Reaction for the last episode?
How am I supposed to wait a week for the reaction of the last episode!? O_O¨ .. Please upload the full length reaction without editing.
Next Wednesday.... oh boy.
BEST DAD! LOL
damn, now a whole other week for the last episode. the wait stinks. you patreon people are lucky, lol
The birthday decease comes up again later in the manga.

There seems to be a lot of unexplained deaths every 2000 years. I still don't know, why.
prepare yourself for the last episode ( if you could do a timer full episode for this one)
I would really love to watch you guys theorize while watching Sakurada Reset please watch it

Esto es DEMASIADO bueno.
You are NOT ready ...
you guys should definitely watch nanatsu no tazai (Seven Deadly Sins)
fenronin They would hate the fan service and probably the fights.
This is less sci-fi or fantasy, insomuch as it is Lovecraftian horror
Have you seen a silent voice if not could you react please

Mitty D;
who's ready for suffering????? i know i am!
The official game, is, honestly, EXTREMELY grindy, but not in a fun or addictive way. More an annoying and pointless way. For a grind to be addictive, it has to drip feed you SOME kind of progression. The game has weapons that break in 5 hits (But only a few areas with materials to craft new ones) a pack that only holds 5 things ( But can only be expanded by carting a million things back to the surface), and non-stop swarming enemies that instantly re-spawn when killed, all while lacking functional stealth mechanics or ways to avoid combat. The game, ostensibly about exploring the Abyss, structurally DEMANDS that you return to the surface every few minutes. The constant backtracking is annoying, but more importantly, there should NOT be this much upward movement in my Abyss Game! But the most baffling decision is not getting the rights to the Penkin score. The Abyss ain't the Abyss without the music.
In theory, turning this series into a game is a no brainer. SOOO many indie survival/crafting games. Copy one, set it in the Abyss, print money. But that is absolutely not what they did here. And they wanted 80 bucks for the thing! I guess, if you want a Made in Abyss game, you should probably just go play Cave Story. Its still free, fun, and has a bangin' soundtrack.
next episode hype
Will you watch ep. 13?
Lyza is a terrible mom if she really did write that letter. She'd risk ruining her daughter's humanity for selfish reasons? Unless Riko is in danger of death and she has a cure that can only be obtained at the bottom.
Lyza didn't write that letter, according to Ozen. It wasn't her handwriting. From the flashback, Lyza said that it would be up to Rike whether she wanted to go into the abyss or not.
Well technically wasn't Ozen's experiment subject of dead meat cut into pieces with little to no organs needed to survive. While Riko has pretty much all hers intact and in fact grew up to the age of 12. So we technically don't know why it 100% stopped.
Bakusen that was just ozen trashtalking overall riko is as fine as any other living being the resurrection cube can indeed resurrect anything’s but if the living being is too damaged it will die again but if it’s not it will just be a complete resurrection
I think it's all part of the culture surrounding the abyss.
If you're a cave raider, the abyss is going to kill you eventually, right? So life is devalued.
Bonedaddy, Best daddy incoming on the wave of scientific triumph.
Please react to Madoka Magica, it's only 12 episodes and it was made by the same guy who made Psycho pass
illkyum I'm pretty sure they already watched it.
