  • A couple years ago, a good friend said she had an old map that has been kept in her family as a heirloom. She didn't know what exactly the area the map was drawn. After she had some conversations within her family, a copy of the map was released to Dan Lowe, Dale, and myself. After receiving the map Dale and Dan recognized it to be a map very similar to a map that was released in the book Faded Footprints. Watch the video to see how this map is all connected to her family and Caleb Rhoades.

This seems to be a Box Canyon with one entrance. Then off to the side is a lake which is made by water running down the slopes of steep walls also in this box canyon. Assuredly it’s in a box canyon.

I was taken to the lower end of the Yellow Ledges a few years ago by a Prospector/geologist. He said the area had a high concentration of Arsenic. It had killed the vegetation and a few animals (bones scattered around). He thought there was a silver deposit a little bit to the west.

I have heard that from others as well. It would be smart not to stay in a mine too long in that area.

@@LegendsUnearthedLLC The guy that took me there was Robert Gifford. He wrote the book, "X Marks the Spot." He also took me to some other places that he talked about in his book.

I am curious what the ladys name is you are interviewing? My uncle{ Craig Lindsay'} grand parents were Lucious and Nettie Miles. He had lots of stories about the map and his family.

Caleb Rhoades wasn't that stupid, he didn't tell anyone where the mine was & took an oath with the Ute Chief Wakara not to tell or show anyone about the location. Also, it would be on Ute land & that land is off limits to any non-Ute member. Possibly the same land the Mormon Church has been trying to steal from the Ute Tribe for years. So, how I see it either Caleb Rhoades wasn't a man of his word as the most trusted Mormon man of Brigham Young or the Map is a bunch of Horse Crap. I believe the latter & I'm not a Mormon.

Yes, it is true, or at least it is widely accepted that in 1855, Caleb took the same oath his father (Thomas) did with Chief Walkara. Apparently Thomas was sick and Caleb took over retrieving the gold. (Or ore?) Chief Walkara died that same year and his brother Arapeen honored the oath Caleb and Thomas made with Walkara. Also, this same year Thomas petitioned and received a huge land grant which is where the Kamas valley is and Caleb and Thomas worked several gold mines in that area. It is also rumored that Caleb found other Spanish mines while out getting gold from the (sacred) mines of the Utes. It is these mines believe Caleb made maps of. I would like to believe Caleb kept his word to Chief Walkara and Arapeen, especially when he had other Spanish mines to get gold and ore from. As a side note, Arapeen's successor Chief Tabby denied them access to the Utes sacred mines. Thank you for your thoughts and comments about this subject. I definitely had only scratched the surface. This map that was talked about in this video, I believe, is not a map to one of the sacred mines of the Utes, but rather a map to some of Caleb 's other Spanish mines he found. Thank you again for your comments.
