    These knives are better than store knives seriously. Not only do you put sweat and blood ( not literally ) but you also put thought and love into your creations. Thank you for making these videos they seriously are a pleasure to watch. I am positive that you will have a lot of subscribers if you post more knife videos please keep making them!!!!

    Excellent video. Great editing, the pacing was perfect.
    That pipe-and-eyebolt bevel jig is such a good idea, I can't believe I've never seen it before. One of those things that seem so obvious, when you see someone else do it.

    • @jasonmackenzie2994
      @jasonmackenzie2994 8 років тому

      I built one in my shed but it's a little finicky, as the bevel will vary in size from the plunge line to the tip. If there's a quick fix to this please tell me.

    Hello there, the description claimed the steel used was 9/32 inch thick but the video shows it was 0.250 (which would be 1/4, or 8/32) inch thick at 0:20 .

    Looks like you needed some emri tape. I don't know what you might call it in America but it's a cloth reinforced sandpaper tape about as wide as the sandpaper strips you cut. It would save you a lot of time and effort being spun in a drill like that

    So at 3:19 I measured and added ( the knife is 8") a few more inches. The plywood there is about 10 " Long ? The large square board with the eye screws looks no more than 12" x 12 " . That sounds good to me.

    Very nice! I really like your filing jig. I'm in the process of making a sharpening jig with the same design. I was thinking of starting out with the eye-bolts like yours but I was tossing around the idea that the rod going through the bottom of the eye-bolt (at different lateral angles) may have some variance on tool angle at the blade edge. So I am thinking of making something flat for the rod to travel on so as to keep a consistent angle at the blade edge. Maybe no so critical for filing but for sharpening I want to be as consistent as possible, as well as keep it on the frugal side as well. I'm off to watch part 2.

      +Rakadis This is what he wanted. He wanted even thicker blade, I could not find the steel thicker than this one. He waned a tank of a knife for his particular missions. I do not know what they are but he got what he wished for. It is a bit heavy but it will be a tool of a lifetime.

    Hey there Slavik Tely,
    Im attempting to do a similar build like this without the sheath. Im a technician but have no experience at all when it comes to knife making XD I nearly finished the basic shape of the knife. After this im going to start the primary bevel of the blade but im a little insecure when it comes to the correct angle. If you got some more detailed technical tips en tricks about knife making and sharperning knives correctly, id be glad to hear you out! Maybe a good idea for a new video? It might make you a little less camera shy ;) Thx in advance.
    Your doing a great job!
    Grtz,
    Ruben

    The Royal Anglian Regiment? wow! I'm affiliated to the regiment!
    Its pretty rare to see anything in the media about the Regiment as its not exactly famous outside of the Army

      I am glad you found something close to your heart. The soldier never contacted me back if he received the knife or not. I contacted him many times and still to this day I do not know what happened.

      SLAVIK TELY wow, he may be on tour. There are only three battalions in the Royal Anglian Regiment, and the whole 2nd Battalion has gone on tour in Cyprus recently and some soldiers from other Battalions have been sent back to Iraq

    • @SLAVIKTELY
      @SLAVIKTELY  7 років тому +1

      Desantos123 UK He told me when I sent him the knife that it was ok to have it shipped for a lower price, therefore it would take 10 days instead of 7 to get there. He said he was going to be away. That was the last of it. I hope he is alive and well. Stay safe brother.

    • @desantos1234
      @desantos1234 7 років тому +1

      SLAVIK TELY he's most likely well. There ain't been no reports of K.I.A, M.I.A, or Severe/Life Threatening Injuries.
      We ain't been up to much really in the past year anyway.
      We've just had patrols around Iraq, other places in Afghanistan, Cyprus, Kenya, etc.
      I doubt we've even got into any conflicting situations
      The only possibility is he could have had problems outside of the Army recently which won't be recorded unless he has died

    if I were to make this out of Damascus steel what heat treat would I use and also would it be harder to use a hand file on. My dream knife is this design in Damascus steel with red cedar grips with a bow drill cutout, with a scout carry sheath.

    • @SLAVIKTELY
      @SLAVIKTELY  7 років тому +1

      nicholsdamascus.com/ this is where I got my Damascus steel. I have not heat treated yet but if you were to get one, call him up and ask him. I bought high carbon steel Damascus. If the steel is annealed, you can use a file on it.

      1pdigit Thank you very much for your compliment. I just bought a cheap belt grinder and let me tell you, it is not easy to grind free hand. So I take off what I can with a belt grinder and then I use the files to make it perfect. You will see it in the next video.

      I'm looking forward to seeing it! A belt grinder will make your life a lot easier! A bevel jig will too. They're cheap and easy to make. They make grinding angles and plunge lines a breeze when using a belt grinder. Keep up the good work and cheers from the states!
