  • The Geminids, What else?! Planned with PhotoPills (www.photopills.com/)!
On Monday, December 14th, 2015 around 10:00 pm local time, clouds disappeared from above our heads, leaving us face to face with one of the most active meteor showers we remember.
We spent the following 5 hours shooting and enjoying the show you'll see in the timelapse video. What an epic time!
The timelapse is the result of playing 647 still images at 24fps.
    EXIF data: Nikon D4s | 14mm | f/2.8 | 30s | ISO 5000
    All shots by Antoni Cladera
    www.antonicladera.net/
    Bonus!!!
    After the timelapse, you'll see:
    1. The explosion of a meteor in the sky. This is pretty impressive :)
    2. All meteors in one image. The image is the result of stacking 120 photos. To create this stunning effect, every photo has been rotated around Polaris to keep the radiant point of the meteor shower in the same place. This proves that all meteors appear to converge from one single point in the sky: the radiant.
    3. The Star Trails image that results of stacking 647 photos.

That moment when your perception changes and you realise it is not the sky moving... it is us... just sitting here on a round ball of rock, spinning slowly in the vast universe.

I wonder how did you manage to get that "explosion" remnants in several consecutive shots while shooting 30 secs exposures? those are usually only visible for a fraction of a second and never remain in shot.

That were the settings. Probably we capture the meteor at the end of one frame and the explosion at the other frame... the dust remained there 2 more frames.

+William Connell It's a composite of multiple photos with metors. Take a look at the link nearly at the end of our article to learn how to do it: www.photopills.com/articles/meteor-guide

0:55 Why does it look like the meteor hit a solid structure? Why does the meteor look like a snowball?

What you can see here is ionisated air, which is blown away from high winds.
