I would like the idea of signing Scherzer only if we trade for Castillo, Cease, or Miller. Scherzer could provide a veteran presence to a young team. He’s also won two World Series.
@TalkingSports-k7c that is my thought process. The veteran piece of Scherzer would be one of two parts. The second part getting another arm. From the looks of the market, it seems only other higher tier option would be via trade (assuming Burnes doesn’t re-sign)
I love Mad Max as much as anyone but I thought he was pretty much near the end when Nats won it all in 2019. He's done, move on to someone else because he's not gonna get healthy miraculously. What they SHOULD have done was offer Walker Buehler a 2-year deal!
Imo at this point it’s make a trade or bust. Burnes at 245 mil is an overpay. I’d love to see him back but if you can get Cease for a decent package, or to a lesser extent Castillo and then go get some help for the bullpen I will gladly take it.
The deal to make is for Dylan Cease. Yes it's another rental but won't cost as much for the same reason and still in his prime. Then next year you have Bradish and a more experienced Rodriguez and you add arms where needed.
Scherzer will turn 41 in July. How much do we want to pay for a Future Hall of Famer who will get injured at some point. He can be a really expensive coach to everyone else, I suppose.
This is an awful idea. Scherzer was actively bad with the Rangers last year at 40 years old. Add to that he’s not needed assuming we add another actually good starter.
As an outsider looking in, I have a question for Orioles Nation: Given the possible resources, why is your new ownership so frugal? Why do you still act like a small market team? The context of my question is not Corbin Burnes (I don't think he would have signed with any team east of the Mississippi, except for a gross overpay). Rather you don't appear to be trying to acquire other players of value that would improve your team and are within your means. You've built up a great core of young players and are now refusing to take it to the next level by spending and you ostensibly can afford to spend.
Max or Justin Verlander would help all the young players. I would like to see a trade for Castillo instead of Cease. He is making $20 plus million and is locked in for three years instead of trading for a rental.
Is your opposition to Flaherty based on his Orioles performance? Because I think that's short sighted. Or is it because of his clubhouse issues, which I can't judge? Max is certainly the opposite of that. I'm not sure I'm on board with that being THE deciding factor.
I am a big believer in Jack Flaherty and his stuff. I am sorry if I didn’t portray that. I just would have been surprised because we hadn’t really heard any reunion talk until the last couple of days. If Jack wants to be back, he no doubt enhances the rotation. Scherzer to me, is more for a veteran presence than anything else. I do think this Os team could use a veteran or two.
@@RYANRIPKENMEDIA Totally agree about veteran help. Although reminding myself what Flaherty has experienced with the Dodgers. Am also reminding myself that they fell 2-1 and 1-0 in the playoffs and maybe it's not pitching but a playoff-hardened veteran to settle the offense that this roster could use.
Are you kidding me? 5 years ago yes...Scherzer won't make it through the season...Why are we basement shoppers again...Boston and New York are making deals???WTF
I like Scherzer. But if the O's get to the point of signing him, then they might as well bring in Verlander and Kershaw as well, run a six man rotation, and pray only one gets hurt, one is cut bait, and one has one more amazing year left.
Scherzer wouldn't be the only move. I would expect one bigger move. I just like the idea of a veteran, and a future Hall of Famer joining a young team. I think there could be a lot of positives and could help the young pitching staff.

The wash. Ballclub didn't win anything baseball let them win.
No on Jack, No on Scherzer...Young staff? We don't have a staff right now...

Keep truthing Rocco!!
I'd sign Mad Max just to have him! I'd trade for Alcantara before Flaherty who gets crushed in the ALE.
I'd love to see an injury free Scherzer on the O's!
The only way they should bring Cease in is if he agrees to an extension.
Which will never happen in this market. Another year rental it is I guess
I'd rather have nobody over Flaherty! Flaherty SUCKS in the ALE and the O's saw this first hand!

Let the old man i❤❤ that picture
Maybe they could sign Nolan Ryan also.
Only 3 years did he have a losing season 😮! I'll take that chance!

Bring in Verlander, Scherzer and Morton:) No flat Flatherty!!

Trade for Castillo and sign Quintana for a year.
Get Max and Sasaki and make it a 6 man rotation and call it a day.

Bring back Mike Mussina😂
Didn’t max tear through our hitters last we saw him?? Sign him now.

I don't think the Orioles are going to make another move I think they're going to go with what they got until Kyle braddish comes back
We need to trade for pitching help
4:14 mike elias ain't doing shit to begin with this off-season
I'd also try to trade for J Johnson with the Pirates as well. it would be: Scherzer, J.Johnson and Alcantara.
Orioles trading pitcher starter
Only Justin Verlander brings Kate Upton with him.

We dont need washington trash onthis team.
Signing Sherzer is trying to fix a gaping wound with a damned band aid.

@@PalmerBryant castillo’s contract and team control would be the most appealing. I agree.
