Sorry, but he was way overhyped and put up marginal numbers for someone his size. He was great for the league in gaining exposure to China, but that was about all. He made the HOF simply due to his impact on expanding the NBA and not on the results he produced in the NBA.

Olajuwon, Sabonis, and Karl Malone did alright defending him. Strange but true, Rodman defended him well even though there's like 5 inches and 100 lbs difference between them. I think if Shaq played in the 80's, Moses and Mark Eaton could get in his way. Mark Eaton was huge, like 7'4 and over 300 lb mountain. In the 70's, I say Artis Gilmore. Shaq's is unguardable in any era but I think these guys can do reasonably well.
@jcpenny3606 Shaq is not unguardable in any era at all. Walt Chamberlain and Bill Russell could also guard Shaq. You could wear him out get him tired. Don't forget about Kareem in 1970-71 . Those guy's in the 60s 70s and 80s would have gave him problems down low.
I think that a stretch big would really give Shaq problems. With every step away from the rim, his weaknesses become greater. Aarvydas Sabonis used to give Shaq trouble whenever he was hitting his shots. He was much bigger than his son Domantas.
