  • Pounding trucks in this massive pile, now in a 40+ meters wide cut on two parallel benches!😍
    This is the last of 4 videos from this pile, where I have been trying to show how I choose to work in a large rock pile from the beginning to the end!😅
    Check out how I worked myself into this point, In my 3 previous videos!😄
    Switching benches like this, makes me able to achieve high production with a 2 side double bench method, and still keeps safety and maneuverability in play!😍 There are a lot of other methods to load out a pile, but this is the way that I feel is the fastest and most productive for me!😋
    Sadly, I didn’t reach the end of this pile, even though I really wanted to complete the loading of it..😅 Time goes fast when one have fun, and all the sudden my vacation hit me in the face..😂
    Enjoy this one, and feel free to check out my other videos!🙏🤗
    Have a great summer!🙋‍♂️😋

    Exactly the fine power section is one of my favorites also, I ve seen on another video channel, where limestone rock was being picked up and loaded by the excavator and it had dust and I like that, as I said before it adds to the fun. Enjoy your vacation

    Spectacular footage, really enjoyed the section where the rock and dirt really mixed, the rock was a lot smaller creating dust when you load the trucks bed. This is to me probably the best one out of all. Of course I'm going back to watch again and again 😆. Enjoy the needed vacation, you deserve it.

    A word of warning: A good friend of mine was a shovel operator loading a portable crusher in a stone quarry not far from where I live. They had just finished there and were preparing to move to another site. I think Bill had his mind on other things, he was about to retire in three days after 45 years for the same company. They had just cleaned up and broke down the equipment and were in the process of moving the equipment out of the quarry. Bill moved his heavy shovel over to the incline to crawl to the surface. He was in that process when an unnoticed 60 foot high "chimney" broke free from the vertical wall and went straight into the cab killing him instantly.
    Always eyeball the vertical walls for loose material making sure they lean away from you before operating near them. Be safe and I like the way you work!

    Viewed 7-9-21 7:15 PM USA Bernard, two questions : You said D6 with one signal and a D8 with two signals. Please explain ? Second Question: The Cat trucks have what appears
    to be red-green lights in a panel located to the rear and slightly below the door windows each side. I am assuming they are part of a weight scale system. I noticed after you drop the first bucket the green comes on. Am I thinking in the right direction? Whom am I........just a viewer. You know I put my time in with Massey Ferguson Inc 30 years and not Caterpillar. As a note: From this time forward I will always "sign in" but may not always make any comments....just for your info you know I have been there.
    When I sign in you notice "USA". So you know, you can specifically get my approximate location at...".Fairview Heights" , in the state of ""Illinois" in "North America" when you go on Google Earth. Have fun digging in the rocks !! Side note, I am not an excavator operator only farm equiptment, but I have watched you enough really would like to operate your 390 in those rocks, but I am not flying clear over to Norway just for the experience !! Just a thought.

      @norwegianearthmovers  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Arza!🙋‍♂️ Thank you very much for your kind feedback!🙏😋
      Well, when I load for several destinations and machines, I like to use a signal system instead of telling where to go over the radio!🙂 The D6 could only take fine rock loads since it were laying out the top layer of the embankment, and therefore had struck specifics when it comes to rock size! The D8 were on another layer deeper down, and had assistance of a hydraulic breaker, so he could take the larger rocks.😋
      So, the D6 were prioritized as we wanted to complete the top layer, so I pushed the horns once when the loads were fine enough for him! Larger rocks in the loads, I pushed the horns twice for them to go to the D8!😊
      Much easier for me, as well as I save the project for 200-300 massages a day over the radio!😅
      Yes, the lights you refer to, are weight indicators! The weight scale system are set for maximum payload! The lights turns green when the loading begins, the red lights tarts blinking when max load is closing in, and turns constant red when the truck is maxed out!🙂
      This granite is fairly light, so the loads are full in volume before max weight is reached! However, there are other heavier materials, where this system is helpful so we don’t massively overload the trucks!😋
      Thank you Arza, for the enthusiasm and curiosity you have shown me for a long time now!🙏 I am grateful for your comments, but I don’t expect comments every time! 🙂 I wish you all the best, and hope that you will have a great summer!🤗

      Depth is about 15 meters, but some of these blasts are lower as well. I really prefer the higher blasts, since they do give the best results!😅🙏

      @norwegianearthmovers  2 роки тому +2

      Hi!🙋‍♂️ Well, we actually have 2 D6’ers here..😅 One on the dirt depo, and the one on rock.
      The top layer of our rock fill is only 1 meter high, so it’s a bit of an overkill to lay out that layer with a D8.😄
      The D6 was originally paired up with a 352 and a couple of ADT’s, but I was forced to send my finest loads to the top layer as well.😅

    • @norwegianearthmovers
      @norwegianearthmovers  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, this is a pretty large site!🙂 There’s going to be built several wear houses of various kind here, the first lot we have built is split into smaller lots when it was regulated!
      The entire area is of 600 acres, the first lot is at 200 acres - split into smaller lots from about 20 - 50 acres.😋 We have started on lot 2 now, where this videos was made, and will continue parallel to the sale of lots here!😊
      We are doing the heavy lifting by moving all the rock and leveling the area, other companies will come in with time to do ground and foundation work for the buildings! We are earthmovers, aiming for the projects that involve large volumes to move!😍 At this site, we moved 700 000 cubic meters from December til June, now we are past 800k m3!🤙

      That rock will be there when you get back! When I came to where I live in north central Pennsylvania, I worked on a flood control dam. We moved 8 million cubic yards of impervious earth and 2 million yards of rock to create a 1/2 mile long embankment with tunnel and spillway. It was a 4 year project. We shut down for the freezing winters. Your project is on that scale too. Keep that CAT digging!

    Really enjoying the footage and learning a lot about your techniques. I have a question regarding the stripping ratio it seems the D8 receives the majority of the loads to be reburied.. will that be blasted again for a finer product for processing ?
    Why do they not screen straight from the truck to separate the overburden ?
    I’m not a miner and the answer is probably apparent to most but I’m just wondering. Your thoughts or others comment appreciated

    • @norwegianearthmovers
      @norwegianearthmovers  3 роки тому +2

      Hi!🙋‍♂️😊 Thank you for watching and for your appreciation!🙏🤗
      You really honor me by claiming that you learn from what I do, that is about the nicest reward I can get from showing what I love to do!🤗
      So, what do you operate yourself?🙂 I sense that you do know a lot through your questions!🤙
      Well, this is not a strip mine or quarry, but a construction site where we use all blasted rock to build solid embankment to raise larger buildings on!😋 There’s no overburden here, all the rock are of good quality that we can use in our process!😊
      We cut the hilltops down, just enough to reach material balance on site to fill up the valleys! We do so by filling layers of rock, compacting every layer, and then start over higher up! The highest variation of height on this site were about 40 meters from the highest top down to the deepest valley!😄
      In a “cut and fill” operation like this, we have to follow quality demands, to reach the perfect results in the end!
      The layers that we fill, have been projected after a full survey of the site, so that the top layer ends up where it is supposed to be! All machines work by gps, so both my cut and the dozers fills are done correctly! We work on layers between 1 and two meters, where to meters high embankment are our max height when it comes to have a satisfying compaction of the rock.😊 On a 2 meter layer, our max size on the rocks are at 1,20 meters..😄
      However, the D8 had assistance of a 352 with hydraulic breaker, to pound large rocks down to proper size!😋
      The D6 worked on the top layer, building only 1 meter embankment, and could therefore not receive larger rocks than 60 centimeters..😝😅 Just hate to sort out the loads like that, but that’s something that I just have to do..🤪😂
      I really just want to pound truckloads towards the D8T that can swallow all sorts of stuff, not this pick and knit sorting of rock..🤪😄
      My load numbers goes down, and I just can’t get that satisfied..😂

      Hi I thank you for your detailed response, it certainly make a lot more sense to me now that I’m aware it’s a construction site. I thought you were processing blue metal / gravel and road base. 🤪

    • @norwegianearthmovers
      @norwegianearthmovers  3 роки тому +1

      You are welcome!🙋‍♂️ It appears to me that you know your stuff about this business!👌 I might even have been too detailed in my reply..😅
      There is various practice and standards throughout different regions though, so now you know a bit of what we have to follow here in Norway!😄😋
      We do have harsh weather conditions here, so our standards are designed to hold and last in the environment here!😅
      You can probably imagine what happens to wet ground that has been soaked through a wet fall with a lot of rain, when the cold hits us and the ground freezes!? We have to use draining materials like rock to lead away as much water as possible, as well as we have a minimum height to fill on soil!😋 The ground can rise as much as 50 centimeters when it freezes, if we do this wrong! So we need similar materials to fill, on an even cut to fill! When everything is even and of similar fractions, everything will move the same up and down!😁 Imagine to build a wear house on various ground, where the one corner is on steady ground, and the other on loose ground..😅 The entire flier will crack when the frost lifts the building..😂
      Thanks again for your curiosity, I really appreciate to write with other experienced people in our common profession!🙏🙂

    • @onagreencloud8577
      @onagreencloud8577 3 роки тому

      I am based in Australia and ground swell is not something we really have to contend with apart from some clay deposits. It’s very interesting how you use the same fill dimensions to combat the ground cracking during those frozen months. I really dig your videos and I too think it’s great to discuss different practices and methods where conditions demand it. I’m just a dumper driver with an interest in the practice of dozers and excavators so I find these films educational.
      Would you approach a sand pile of an ore load in the same manner or just hit those head on rather than create a pilot then parallel and even a double bench to widen your cut. My guess is this is really done foremost for safety reasons rather than efficiency. Thanks for taking the time to reply I appreciate your thoughts 💭. Best from Western Australia 🇦🇺

    • @norwegianearthmovers
      @norwegianearthmovers  3 роки тому +2

      Oh, i see!😋🤙 What part of Australia are you from?🙂
      Very fun that you are from there actually, since I have had the honor of being familiar with some other guys from down under already!😁🍾
      Hehe, I perfectly understand that frost issues isn’t your number one concern..😅 I guess that you guys have to focus on drainage more to prevent roads and constructions to be flushed away from heavy rain storms?🤭 It certainly seems so when I watch “truckers down under” and similar on Discovery..🙈😄
      But for us, frost is the main issue, indeed..😝😅
      We can build something that seems perfect during summer, that may turn out to be ripped apart next spring..🤪😄
      Therefore, we have all these strict regulations to get a job approved in the end!😋
      If we are to cut a string for a road, we need to cut down to a minimum height (1.60 meters) to achieve a proper fill! Of course, a new project don’t always follow the old ground, so some places we are cutting 20 meters down, and others just under the top soil..😅
      The most important thing for us in various depths like this, is to cut out a triangle towards a material of different kind (mostly between clay and rock, but also between clay and sandy ground..)🤪
      If the bottom of the cut just goes straight into a rock cut from clay or sand, there will be a massive jump on the road where the various materials meet, even so the 1.60 meters high rock embankment on top is monogamous! So we carve out a meter extra in the transition to get the water deeper.😋
      Well, I wouldn’t call you “just” a dumper driver!😉 We who load or receive materials, wouldn’t have been able to do a thing, without you guys who haul your asses off to make us busy!🤙😅 You appear to me like a really engaged operator!😋 There are those who just don’t give a damn about what happens around them, but I choose to compare you with my committed truck drivers! 😉 It is a massive difference to me if my truck drivers follow up by watching me and predicting what I will do next, and not just try something without a plan..🤪😄
      I do my best to load if they are unlucky and miss by some centimeters, since I know that they did their best anyway! Not easy to perform perfectly all the time during 12 hours and maybe up to over 100 truck loads each!🤪😅 There are those loaders who don’t drop the first bucket unless the trucks are perfectly lined up, but that is for me just time demanding crap that’s unnecessary!😝😅
      So what do you drive, and what kind of machines do you haul from and for?🙂
      Well, a sand pile is something that I really dream of being assigned to load..😅 We almost don’t have any sand at all here, there are mostly rock, wet clay or marsh here..😂
      But , how I attack a pile or cut, depends on that particular task, no approach is the same! Have you seen the videos I made with a 374 F I operated last summer?🙂
      I took that pile on a typical Aussie way, double benching forth and back while loading only on one side!😋 I found that method more efficient than my typical 2 side double bench at that site, since the ground was wet and soft and the trucks couldn’t drive in one track more that one time..😄 We loaded and hauled over 300 loads a day that way!
      Have you seen my videos from the barge last year? There you can see me “flat benching”, just climbing on top of the rock pile, and rear loading the trucks all the way! Both with my 390 and the 374 I had for a while last year!😄 My crew and I emptied that 10000 ton barge in 5 hours at best with the 390, and 7 hours with the 374!🤪 I managed to unload the barge in 7,5 hours with a 988H wheel loader, so it was pretty quick with the excavators..😅 Or I was a bit slow with the 65 ton wheel loader..😂😂
      I don’t believe in locking into one particular method, I think a open mind about techniques in various environments, are the best way to achieve high production levels!😋 The 2 side double bench method I use, is something I prefer in blasted rock, since bench works are time demanding in other ways, and that it is hard to get the bucket down in the hard rock. When I go with the bottom for the trucks, I always have an opportunity to reach under large rocks and hard spots in the pile!🤩😋
      I thank you again for your enthusiasm, really hope that you can find som use from my experience!🙏😊

      Hei!🙂 Takk for den hyggelige tilbakemeldingen din!🙏😊
      Alltid godt å få høre at det jeg driver med blir verdsatt!🤗
      Vel, dette er et stort industri tomt prosjekt. Første tomt var på 200 mål, og vi flyttet 700000 kubikk meter fjell på den tomta! Vi sprenger ned toppene, så vi får stein nok til å fylle dalene, og dermed får masse balanse og et stort flatt område klart til å bygge på!😋 Vi har grunnarbeidene, etterhvert nå vil andre selskaper komme inn for å klargjøre til fundamentering for bygg, strøm, internett, va og veier!🙂
      Hele området er på 600 mål fordelt over 4 tomter, der denne videoen er filmet på tomt nr 2!😁 Alt i alt har vi nok rundt 700000 kubikk til å flytte før alt er ferdig, men etterspørsel etter tomtene er med på å avgjøre hvor mye vi ferdigstiller i denne omgang!😄
      Unødvendig og kostbart å gjøre alt ferdig nå, om de siste tomtene ikke blir solgt før om et år eller to!
      Grenland er i skikkelig vekst for tiden, der dette nye industri området kommer godt med i en stor etterspørsel etter nye tomter å bygge varehus, lager, butikker og annet på!😊🤙

      This video was the last of 4 videos, that I managed to make before I went home..🤭😄 Sorry..
