Billie has been saying that no matter what she wears, people will be criticizing her. She was aware at a very young age that people will inevitably put her in a spotlight no matter what she does. She was also aware that some people will inevitably sexualize her. So she wore baggy clothes. She got flak for it anyway. People were just waiting for her to turn 18 to "legally" sexualize her- she didn't need to do the photoshoot to do that. She wore a tank top once and people were drooling over her. Are you really saying that those people who were just waiting for her to turn 18 are right in sexualizing her? You people look at a corset and immediately think, MEN ARE GOING TO LUST FOR THIS. Are you really insinuating that men are that weak? That men are barely in control of their desires? Billie didn't do the shoot to TEMPT, you are making that interpretation yourselves. She was owning the narrative. Women get harrassed no matter what they wear, no matter how they carry themselves, anyway. I think her dressing in a corset is not the disgusting here.

Paul and Morgan, I’m a Christian too and I’m asking you to please, please hear me. I’m truly concerned because there are so many sexual assault victims who carry immense shame due to trauma. Using shaming language such as “playing the victim” (when referring to sexual assault) could potentially re-traumatize and hurt those people further.😢
What a woman is wearing should never be part of the conversation when talking about sexual assault. Whether a woman was covered head to toe or literally wearing nothing, the fault is still 100% on the perpetrator. Perpetuating a culture where men are expected to have a lack of self-control over their own sexual desires is incredibly harmful. What needs to be prioritized is teaching people about consent.

It's interesting that you think women wearing certain clothes causes men to stumble with lustful thoughts. I'm curious what you think about Josh Duggar's recent arrest, considering he comes from a relatively conservative, Christian family. Who or what do you think caused him to stumble?

    • @alwayschasingjesus3452
      @alwayschasingjesus3452 3 роки тому +13

Nobody ever said that it is *always* a woman’s clothing or whatever that causes a man to stumble. A man has control over his actions. Stumbling is usually used in the context of temptation, not actually acting something out.

    • @lauraj3333
      @lauraj3333 3 роки тому +19

@@alwayschasingjesus3452 I agree! Men do have complete control of their actions. Which is why it's concerning that there are some men who still decide to do these things even when they are followers of God. Maybe it can be argued they are not true followers of God, but according to Paul and Morgan, there is still some responsibility on the woman to not cause lustful thoughts, and therefore implying, harmful actions taken upon them.

@@lauraj3333 it falls on both. Some people have struggles in certain areas that are harder not to give into where as to others it is not as hard of a struggle or not struggle at all and vice versa. Like putting a cookie infront of a child and their struggle becomes so intense not to eat it, to where most children will just eat the cookie even though you told them not to touch it. The Spirit of Jezebel is behind rape. Not everyone agrees or even have the same morals. Have you ever heard people talk and say well if anything happens in the moment then it'll happen. They are allowing room for lustful thoughts and acting on them only to realize things are going to far happening to fast and now are doubting should I actually have sex with this person. Maybe I don't and then while things are already in motion to having sex people will change their minds which on more cases leads to rape. So it is on both people. Also in other countries where women litterally cover their whole bodies still rape happens over there and we're over here being like this. People who rape are horrible people whom only God should handle cause I can't. There should be no excuse for rape but don't you dare be arrogant to the situations and spirits behind these types of things because a lot of rape could have been avoided.

      @alicewalker4723 3 роки тому

Also just wanted to add I don't know what happened about Josh Duggar's arrest will have to look into it. I just didn't want you to think that just because you come from a Christian family doesn't mean you are excused from generational curses or passing on of spirits through your family line. A lot of Christians go about their day not realizing that a lot of their struggles or mindsets have been passed onto them from their parents or have been allowed in their life because of a legal access that had been opened up for the devil to tormemt them. Example watching porn can and will open up doors for the spirit of Jezebel into your life which makes the lustful thoughts more than just overwhelming. Ex-warlock John Ramirez dives deep into topics like this and giving the devil legal reign over you.

@Diane If you read all of this God bless you but a short verson is to read Romans 7:14-25 and then go ahead and read the rest lol causw you'll get your solution. Or ya know just all of Romans, its very good very good.
      Romans 7:14 NLT
"So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am too human, a slave to sin. 15 I don't really understand myself for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead I do what I hate. 16 But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. 17 So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it."
Alright I'm gonna stop there. So if apostle Paul knew this about himself; then how does he do good and follow and obey Jesus?
Romans 8:2 "And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death."
Romans 8:12 "Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die."
Notice the if, you still have a choice after you are set free. Galatians 5:1 (summerized) "make sure you stay free"
But a lot of Christians go around not knowing what they need to be set free from. Therefore they have troubles in certain areas in their live because the devil has them bound in that area unknowingly.
Jesus calls for Christians to have deliverances so the devil has no foothold in any area of our lives.
Then we have no chains and can freely choose to follow God or sadly not.
1 John 3:9 "Those who have been born into God's family do not make a practice out of sinning, because God's life is in them. So they can't keep on sinning because they are children of God."
Example of this would be to say you got delivered from spirit of alcohol. You can not control yourself from drinking too much and everytime you drink you blackout but not only that you get violent. Little did you know a generational curse of anger has been in your family bloodline. Because of the alcohol nonstop consumption it has opened up a door for the generational curse of anger to get its foothold in your life. So you didn't only need to be delivered from alcohol but the spirit of anger.
Now once you got your deliverance you won't go back to parties with drugs or alcohol since you know that would be a huge temptation and hard for you to say no to.
I hope this helps and I pray you recieve clarity and understanding in whatever you don't understand. Also ask Holy Spirit to help you understand His word and His truth on how He writes it whenever you read the bible because Holy Spirit is a much better speaker than I am ❤️

I did like the atmosphere of this video, it felt much more open to conversation than most. Growing up as a missionary kid (and choosing to follow Christ into adulthood and marriage), I felt very discouraged by modesty. Although average (if not a bit on the light side) for my height, I am curvy and the idea that somehow I was *more* of an issue to those around me was incredibly hurtful. I was told as a 13 year old (from a non-family member) that if I wasn't modest enough I was going to cause my own dad to "stumble" and that I should even avoid hugging him. Modesty is not the same across the board in the sense that if you go to places in Asia, Africa, South America, North America, etc. the standards across societies and times are not the same. What we wear in the USA (even as Christians) would have shocked and appalled people 100 years ago in the same areas. In this way, I do think there is some validity in pushing back against blanket statements regarding what is modest/immodest. The idea that curves and skin automatically means being provocative is a heart issue, I think. Bodies are natural/normal--in some places nudity isn't even considered to be shocking or sexual, whether it be beaches or parks in some areas or public baths (which I was raised going to and finding completely normal). I am not trying to say that we should never care what way our appearance is perceived, but rather it varies person to person and place to place. What I now feel comfortable wearing is different from when I was 15 because I live in a different culture. I do think it is healthy for people to be comfortable in their own skin and not feel the need to constantly question if their clothing choice (or body type) is going to define how they will be treated or viewed. Whether I wear a baggy shirt or even a normal tshirt, people will notice my curves and it was futile for me to try and hide it for years. It isn't because I am immodest, but it's not something I can just hide. All that to say, I think there is a balance and I modesty is more of a heart question as some women may feel completely fine wearing a bikini to the beach and have no ill-intent and some women wearing clothes that appear more modest may have more of a heart issue as it could be out of pride.
My husband showed me this video and I think it sums it up well (watch the first 2 minutes and 57 seconds for this topic): ua-cam.com/video/-RkZXZx6HCI/v-deo.html

Just so you guys know, statistically this is a fact, there is no link between provocative dressing and rape. Rape has been proven to be an issue of power dynamics, it is not a man losing his way I frankly find that a bit insulting to man since they’re not dogs, they’re not going to roll over when you wait for bone at them, they are capable people and can remove themselves from a situation if they feel they are directly affected, but that is not with sexual assaulters‘s are, while they are mostly men, they are not all men and it is proven that in the minds of the sexual assaulter and/or a rapist, they view women in and objectifying manner, so when they see a woman dressed in either sweatpants and a sweater or dressed in a prom dress they will attack and it is proven that’s true when examining who victims tend to be, not provocatively dressed women, but women and men who either have low self-esteem or women who are deemed vulnerable. There is a difference between respecting someone and respecting their actions. We are made in the image of God. I respect my fellow human beings in that regard. However, I do not have to respect these actions. In truth, that’s what they are *really* asking for. They’re asking for us to respect this immodesty, and respect their decision to act in such a way. It’s a bit of a struggle. Modesty is such a touchy topic right now, but it’s not black and white. And I agree, there is appropriate things to wear in certain situations and other things just aren’t appropriate. And one if the things to think about, is weather something might cause someone to lust. However, there is nothing visually inherently sexual about our bodies. Hundreds of years ago shoulders and ankles would have been absolutely arousing which now we‘d laugh about. It’s more society that shapeds what we find attractive (that doesn’t negate the fact that the attraction is very real) I feel like the resolution then should more be, changing the way we look at people, meaning, at the heart in a nonsexual way, than dressing „modestly“ under any circumstances, because someone will always find a way to sexualize you.
I‘m sorry, if you can’t look at a woman in lingerie without sexualizing her, that’s on you. However, I think it’s also important for me as a woman to look at my heart and the reasons for why I dress the way I dress. I will always try to be kind towards my brothers. And if I dress a certain way because I want the validation, then that is a problem in me as well.
I think it’s just important to remember that ‚modest‘ literally translated means ‚appropriate‘ and not ‚non revealing‘.

Modern day youth are being influenced by the world, Christian or not. Everyone is outraged that you two have an opinion and have pulled a complete straw man argument in the comments attacking your character over your opinion on modesty...smh. The reason female empowerment is so prevalent today is because of women like Billie who are willing to talk about breaking the mold. Women have never held power over men, men have always had a say in the role women play in society and how they dress and what jobs they can hold, you even say it yourself that women need downplay who they are and what they wear FOR MEN, to make sure MEN don’t get “tempted”, as if its the woman’s duty to change for man and never the other way around. Shouldn’t we be teaching men to not to rape, harass and assault women instead of teaching women to make themselves smaller for the sake of men’s lack of self control. Why shouldn’t we start working on empowering ourselves for us the same way men feel empowered? No one is “pushing” you to feel empowered as a sexual, strong, confident woman without a man’s approval anymore than you’re “pushing” the modesty trope.

But I also understand that she thinks this way because of the way she was brought up.
She’s never lived outside of LA (not bad, but we all know LA’s culture is different than any other city).
Her parents don’t seem to be strict in any way or form, and I don’t think that she’s ever had any kind of job that required a dress code or to follow specific requirements.
She’s also never had a “regular kid” school lifestyle since she was homeschooled (nothing wrong with that).

She cares for the earth by being a vegan. She does not spend lots of money on objects or clothing her merch is ecofriendly and made in US. I am surprised you as Christians didn't highlight how Billie is discussing passages that are in the Bible. Referencing the passages where Jesus's followers put down a woman who was a adulterous (whore). He said if you are without sin cast the first stone. That is exactly what she is trying to state- media, culture push and portray women to be stereotypical images. Are we the ones to judge by what you wear or is God?

It's really hard growing up as a girl today and trying to discern between God's thoughts/will on body positivity and the world's. I feel like there is a lot of good wisdom that the world has to offer as far as this discussion goes, but it's really easy to forget what the Bible actually says and just believe what you want when it feels good. We do need to be sensitive because of how much of a real issue self-confidence and body-image are among basically all women today. But, like with most issues, the world's voice is not going to be the completely "correct" one in this. It's hard to accept that God calls us to be modest, but he does. And, I have to trust that he has good reason for it, and that he holds the answer to true body-confidence and self love THROUGH modesty that is not a veil for female oppression or sexism, like we too often see from people who preach modesty. Good words, guys

Modest clothes tempts many people with aggression as seen with many people in hijab getting assaulted. So what's the solution here? Don't wear clothes outside the norm so you don't upset anyone or tempt anyone with sin? When she says do whatever you want im pretty sure it applies to clothes as this is what the interview was about, and saying f it to anything else literally also applies to wearing modest (even if its for god) so hey, if you want to be modest because that's your relationship with God, then do that and f what anyone else thinks.

If they love and respect you they won't judge you by what you are wearing but by your actions. If they see you being very caring for your friends and family, see you treating ppl with kindness and respect, see that you are polite to everyone, that should always overpower what the person happens to be wearing and to judge them on what they are wearing is unfair, you don't know why they are dressed the way they are. They could be very poor and simply cannot afford any nice clothes or they are in an abusive relationship where their partner makes them dress up, all fancy and sexy or makes them cover-up. I myself have not been in that type of relationship, but I have first-hand witnessed and been involved in both of these situations with other people.

Everything i say is out of love, and I'm not trying to challenge you or give you a hard time. I'm just relying information that I thought was very interesting and goes with what you're saying.
Believe it or not there was a study of the male brain a while ago. And they found out that when they showed men pictures of women dressed provocatively, they saw them as objects. But then they saw the same women dressed modesty and then they didn't automatically view her as an object. I'm not saying that men can't control themselves, but I saying that the human brain reacts to certain things in different ways automatically without even realizing it. Of course it's wrong for a man (or a woman) to lust after someone, and/or act on those temptations. And there are people out there who will unfortunately lust over people who are very modest and there's nothing the girl can do because that's 100% on the guy. But we should be aware of how we dress can effect people.
I personally know a bunch of people, who are like "I wanna wear this because it makes my butt look so big, tempting, and guys will love it!" but then they get really mad when they notice people looking at their butt. I truly believe that a lot of people (not all) want to be a victim and have attention. Because this is circular reasoning. If you literally say that you want people to look at your butt, but when they do, you get really mad, call they perverts, and then go around telling people how awful men are for look at you in a sexual way. Which of course is very wrong on the man's part. Also the Bible says don't look at the speck in someone else's eye, look at the log in your own eye. Which basically means to worry about your own sin issues before judging someone else's. Anyways
I believe that if you're looking for attention then you've lost your right to get upset and accuses things of people who give you attention in the exact way you were looking for it.
Sorry for going off on a tangent. It's something that has been on my mind for a while. And again everything I said is out of love I'm not trying to confront you at all! When we think about the original reason why we wear clothes in the first place, it really puts this in perspective. Adam and Eve were in the Garden naked and unashamed until they sinned, and their eyes were opened to the knowledge that it’s not good to walk around naked. The same happens to us when we are young children. We just run around naked and unashamed. As soon as we start to learn what is right and wrong, we start to get embarrassed about being naked in front of others.
Adam and Eve tried to cover their own sin by sewing fig leaves together and making loincloths. Knowing this would not be sufficient (they could not atone for their sin by their own works), the Lord had to shed blood and sacrifice an innocent animal’s life in order to make garments of skin for their clothing. This was a type and shadow of Christ’s future sacrifice on the cross, so that we could be covered with His perfect righteousness and be made right with our God.
The clothes that we wear are a constant reminder of what the Lord Jesus has done for us. So, really, modesty is first and foremost not about us, how we look to others, or whether or not we are causing people to stumble; but it is about our Savior. Hallelujah.
This revelation alone has the power to change a person’s heart about how they dress. A great topic to think about. Love you both.

Also , wearing clothes is the first path towards civilisation . When people are all together naked , women naked in front of plenty of men , you cannot build marriage and families because of the sexual disorder that comes from that nakedness.
When the Lord says you shall not lust after your neighbour's wife , it implies that she belongs to one man and her nakedness should be for him only.
There are whole passages on nakedness in the OT that all refer to women as the sexual property of men.
Ths was essential for the Hebrews to learn to built their civilisation cut these things apply to any actually.

Also to Morgan’s point she isn’t saying everyone needs to shut up , she’s saying that she isn’t going to listen to people who hate on her or dictate her autonomy in things like dressing, body or image because if you guys didn’t know each instance when Billie was seen WITHOUT baggy clothes (paparazzi famously photographed her taking a walk in a tank top) men were quick to sexualize her even though she was in one instance a minor and in another barely 18, people made comments about her arms and stomach and her image just taking a walk in hot weather made headlines with talk shows discussing her literally wearing a tank top and the response. She is saying she no longer cares for what those people have to say about her, and that’s a message her followers agree with and she’s pushing to them as well. She isn’t saying if you have an issue or talk to her to shut up cause she only cares for herself I think you misinterpreted that plus most of this interview since her dialogue is informal with alot of slang horses common towards her generation and can be often be misconstrued when read by people who aren’t surrounded or in touch w that dialogue

Hop it off! That's hilarious and so true! I don't really understand negative comments on anything. If I don't like it, I don't watch it. I certainly don't comment on stuff I don't like or agree with! Just move on to what you do!!

I'm encouraged by the demeanor of this video. There is a marked difference in this video versus the way you sometimes talk about people you disagree with (who often are not even believers) that can be void of peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, or self-control. But here, I hear both of you extending grace and talking about this subject in a way where you even say how there were good things said and things to ponder in the interview so right on!
This new focus on modesty coming from the church is only in the past couple of hundred years and is in no way rooted in Scripture. This view of modesty demonstrates a lack of Bible reading as It's based on contorting verses out of context mostly. The word "modesty" is only ever used in Scripture twice. Both times talking more about lavish lifestyles like spending thousands of dollars on one outfit rather covering one's skin. The Evangelical church demonizes sensuality, sexuality, and even nudity in ways that God and His Word do not. Descriptions of graphic nudity are found in profusion in Scripture. From the story of the Garden of Eden to such instances as Noah's youngest son looking at his nakedness, to the Levite's concubines, to the graphic -- at times even pornographic -- sexuality of Song of Songs, we find realistic, factual, erotic, literary descriptions of sex and nudity in the Bible. We also learn that God has used people's sexual behavior, even immoral behavior, to shape history, to punish the wicked, to chastise, and to build up His people. Historically, the church has not always been as unfriendly toward flesh and bodies as some fundamentalists are in our own times. As Franky Shaeffer writes in his book Sham Pearls Before Real Swine, "It is the exercise of a peculiarly Protestant arrogance that ignores church history and tradition and assumes that as we look for answers to moral problems, we are alone before God, armed only with our own reading of Scripture and our puny consciences. The fact that in their wisdom, countless faithful churchmen through generations before and after the Reformation found nothing intrinsically offensive about nudity is instructive, at least to those who regard themselves as part of the historic church."
The message that Evangelicals peddle however is that once girls develop physically and have grown into women, they should feel shame and guilt for their natural curves and breasts. This argument goes directly against the graphic eulogy of the female body and its sexuality that we find in Song of Songs so if we are being even the least bit intellectually honest, Evangelicals must admit that they are now at odds with Scripture and certainly church history in general. They are arguing against thousands of years of both Catholic as well as Protestant history. Look up the nude statue of Venus, nudity in art by the church in the Middle Ages, and the nakedness of many of the martyrs such as St. Sebastian. Look up the nude figures and statues of the virtues commissioned by the church of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, such as Naked Truth painted standing next to a robed Mercy, illustrating Psalms 85:10. Study the renaissance art by Catholic Italy as well as Protestant Europe from painters like Cimabue, Giotto's teacher, to Leonardo Da Vinci's anatomical studies in the late Renaissance. Even the Sistine Chapel is filled with erotic art! The human body was always perceived as good and pure up until recent history. Evangelicals either have to say they disagree with everyone from Solomon and David in the Old Testament, the disciples and apostles of the New Testament, all of the leaders of the Reformation like Martin Luther, as well as all of the Scripture I've just laid out as well, or just realize maybe they don't have all this entirely right. This worldview has been formed largely by the modern "Protestant arrogance" as Shaeffer calls it. .

Language changes. We use the word modesty to encompass multiple words used in scripture regarding humility, discretion, etc.

Also, modesty would have been even more apparent in scripture back then. Women wouldn’t have even thought about dressing in the way we do today because it was an atrocious thought to have. Even prostitutes dressed far more modestly than some of the teenagers out on the streets today.

@@alwayschasingjesus3452 Of course words change, but the point still stands, this version of modesty they are talking about in the video is nowhere in Scripture... Point to one example. (Or read my comment and realize Scripture advocates the opposite.)
