Warren DeMARTINI is one of the most talented guitarists in rock history. 'Lay It Down' features one of the greatest opening riffs! Long live RATT & ROLL and Mr. DeMARTINI's amazing rhythm playing and soloing.
I've been a RATT fan from the beginning, and this song was without question my favorite of them all. It was true decades ago and it's true now... they are a phenomenal studio band... and that's pretty much it.
I saw Bon Jovi open for them back in the day, unfortunately what you said could not be more true, Bon Jovi blew them off the stage (they sound awesome on the album, horrible onstage, and they were trashed the night I saw them which did not help (and for all the technical wizardry of the Warren Demartini, live he cannot hit a bent note true to save his life, really it sounded like listening to a beginner learn to bend notes)
I saw them live twice in Philly and they were really good. Bon jonvi opened for them once and I think Metallica another time but could be mistaken on that one. Jon Bon sucked , accept the 7 girls hugging all over me and dancing on me the whole time he was on 🤣 Didn't see the comment above, I found the opposite to be true , maybe Philly had a better sound stage at the time ? Idk if it was Ratt but when Metallica opened, We swore they were singing " Mustard Mustard and puppies" hahaha they sounded bad but most opening acts do I saw Godsmack when they opened for Ozzi HOLY SHIT they made ole Ozzi seem like the opening act. I've seen Gsmack 4 times , dudes rock , this was in the early 2000s to I think last one was 08 so idk about now . I never was a fan of Jon Bon but that's me and isk about anyone else's views but recently wirh all these bands parroting the Gooberment, I've stopped listening to many .

I remember shaking hands with Carlos Cavazo @ club one in Fresno several years ago before a local show. How does such an iconic rock band implode? The Irvine Meadows shows back in the day were off the hook. I never ever thought I would love a Ratt, but I loved these guys growing up in high school. Cheers mates!
You mean, overpowering the PA at that range. That's called too much stage volume. The man needs to learn how to use an isolation cabinet and have his own monitor. That setup as you see it would work fine if this was the late 80s and the show was in a freaking ARENA, because then the PA volume would allow that kind of stage volume. As it is, this is just a hot mess...and be sure, I DO love RATT.
@@jameslane9537 It's not icepicky, but it pushes the upper midrange and cuts through. I have several older Marshalls myself, I know what icepicky tones they can generate, and believe me, this isn't that.
It's funny.. you all give Warren all this credit for the riff.. yea it's his but KING CROSBY is the one who took that riff and ran with the song.. Warren was playing the beginning riff when Robin came over to his place in Hawaii, as the band was staying there 2 weeks to write music.. he took it and developed the rest.. even the solo was mostly his, Warren didn't start to really take over until halfway through the invasion tour. When Robin started to get heavy on Mr brownstone..
“Front end PA mix”? What you’re hearing is Warren. Lots and lots and Warren. Do you think standing right in front of Warren’s Marshall’s might have anything to do with that? I’m sure he rolled the palm of his hand to the right, across the top of the knobs….I.e, everything is on 10, i.e., his stage volume is obscenely loud. The phone/camera has those Marshall’s blasting right at it. As I said, you hear Warren, and barely anything else.
When I saw Aerosmith in 87 I was in the front row and ALL I could hear was Joe Perry's guitars. All of the vocals were coming out of the speakers above the stage and us in the first 3 or 4 rows never heard a friggin word of any of the lyrics.

I forgot how much him and Lynch sounded alike. Except,since Lynch was a solo player,he played all over the space,to fill the air. Warren had to stay in pocket more. So it wouldn't sound like mush.
Love these clips because its sounds like we have Warren in isolation on one side while rest of band is other side. Similar to what Van Halen used to do with Eddie.
Warren is so turned up in the mix. God bless the crew responsible for that. We all know Warren is the only reason ever to see Ratt since Robin left the band.
This is sad. I'm so glad their early live gigs and the subsequent hit albums were miles above their typical stage performances as time went by. When I was young you could not even get a Wednesday night dive bar gig as a covers band if your playing and mix sucked as badly as Ratt's in this video. Warren should be ashamed to sound like a teenage rookie on a song he's played over a thousand times. I sounded as good or better jamming in my den last night with MTV. Ratt's next album title: "Into The Sewer." Sorry boys but harsh honest criticism comes with the territory. I still love and appreciate their first couple albums and always will.
Remember my aunt my uncle brother and sister went to see Quiet Riot at the oxbow lake Roadhouse in White Lake Michigan and they told me well they were listening to Carlos cavazo play Battle Axe they had to put their hands over their ears and walk out

Big Warren DeMartini fan seen the Invasion Tour in 85 and performances in smaller Venues throughout the years . His Tone has never sounded this BAD ever ? Cant hear Carlos at all should have lined out to the Mixer Board maybe it sounded better straight in ??

I’ve loved Ratt from the beginning and always will but Juan’s stage moves were stupid as hell in the 80’s and thought maybe he would’ve seen himself on film enough times by now that he would realize he doesn’t look cool at all. So cringy lol but other than that Ratt is one damn great rock band🤘🏼
