Thanks for your comparison! For your information, Rustoleum now makes big cans of “Imagine” Color Shift paint in Blue Galaxy, Green Copper, Turquoise Water, and a Purple Sunrise (that color nobody seems to have in stock right now). JoAnn’s carries it, in limited amounts, and it prices @$14.99 for the 11 oz can (I used a 40% coupon)
@@bridgetwietlisbach3491 We don't have a Menards either, but none of my JoAnns have the Imagine paint either... At least I didn't miss them for my video. I'll have to compare them later if they ever come in stock. :)
Thank you for a great review of these! I am going to be doing the engine bay of my car and been trying to find out how each of the blue shifting colors were but was limited in info. So this video helped me so much! Im goinng with the Rustoleum Blue Cosmos!!
I highly recommend finding a tip/nozzle for the can of cokor shift you are using with a wide spray pattern such as one you would find on the spray maxx 2k glamour clear coat. That nozzle fits the rustoleum color shift cans. Having this wide fan not only gives better coverage and better blending without striping on larger projects but most importantly it ends up with such a more intense glimmer from the different pearls in the paint making it really pop and dance in the light as where the normal narrow tips tend to give you a duller finish. I did tons of practice to get the exact results i was looking for. I ended up doing a whole car with the rustoleum turquoise waters as it was what my girlfriend wanted. I was unable to duplicate the turquoise waters through any automotive custom dinishing companies so dattle can it was. That being said, the goadiator has taken first place in many car shows. I actually created a baby book so to speak of the complete build and display the start to finish on a board when we show the truck because not one person i have Shown the truck to and told the story to believes it was done completely with nothinbut rattle cans including clear coat just because i wanted to keep the story unquestioned.
Rest oleum is really good about refunding your purchase if You have a problem with the pain, not coming out of the nozzle, such as yours in the video. I prefer rust oleum over any other brand, but just recently I had to use the mirror paint and it Just made puddles everywhere it didn’t spray. I thought it was going to be a big hassle to get my money back, and they were excellent about it, which makes me even a bigger fan. I just purchased the Krylon color morph and am incredibly Disappointed it didn’t cover half of my mini Chandelier because it was such a wide spray it Was difficult to get the 1/2 metal arms. I wish I would’ve seen this five days ago but thank you very much for posting it!
Awesome video and thanks so much for sharing! I’ve been a bit hesitant about the testors and the krylon mainly bc of the sizes and the prices and I didn’t wanna waste my money or time. I do have the rustoleum pink champagne color shift and it is amazing!! Love it!! I played around a bit with it and used it to paint an old metal first aid box that I use to store most of my acrylic paints in. I do have drips but I was impatient and not doing it evenly lol bc I was eager to see how pretty it was going to be! I’m also about to turn my grandmothers fold up sewing machine into my nail table and I also have an old hutch I’m going to use as storage for nail polish and I just ordered the blue cosmos and I’m going to paint them both with that and do the tabletops on both with some type of glitter layer over it. I cannot wait and I thank you so very much for this very informative video now I’m even more ecstatic about these next 2 projects. Also I was going to tell you that you can decant that can of the pink champagne and pour it into a glass jar or plastic one that is solvent resistant. Lots of videos on how to do it. I had that same problem with a rainbow glitter spray paint I bought a long time ago and it works perfectly!😊
I love rustoleum, but their nozzles have always been hit or miss. Whenever I get a good nozzle, I save it to replace the next lemon I get. Also, duplicolor makes an automotive grade shift paint under the trade name Mirage. It goes on super light and smooth for fantastic control.
Hahaha I’m so sorry that happened with the pink champagne but I’m glad it’s not just me. I don’t know what the heck Rustoleum/Walmart’s issue is with that one, but I’ve lost about 10-20% of my cans to that issue. I usually just ignore all precautions and puncture the can to either use it all at once, or to just drain it into a container to eventually run it through my Goodyear air sprayer, which is a cool way to modify the colors of spray cans.
Thank you so much for sharing that I'm not the only one either! That's the first time that has ever happened to me, and I was SO upset. haha. I've never punctured the can though because I don't have anything else I could use it with. You're a hard core spray painter! What items do you like to spray paint?
I'm painting an old bass guitar I have with the pink champagne, and the video I watched where the guy was painting with it had the same issue, it must be the color formula.
Hi there lovely ladies!! 🌞😊 absolutely WONDERFUL comparison video between Rust-oleum and Krylon's color shift cans! Especially the spray strength and different nozzle types, bravo!!! (not to mention, I've been jamming to your song, Just Dance from Av3C, stuck in my head for dayssss haha!!). Recently got Blue Cosmos and Purple/Green finishes for a test run and one of my projects, and BOY do those deliver!!! 😱 You are absolutely right... BAMMM, the effect is GORGEOUS in person!!! And speaking of dud cans... you are not alone! I had to get another can of base black today (gloss Rustoleum) as the one I used was full of debris in the formula... which got on both my test run AND project (grrrr) even after cleaning my surroundings and both items exhaustively! Boooo... first Rustoleum can to be a dud out of dozens, oh well! (yuppp, had to sand and start over of course) 🙈😅The spraying distance was reasonable, humidity and temperature all balanced, so technique and environment were not factors, pretty sure. Did that ever happen to you? 😃
@@createcraftcostume Glad to hear it was only one can! Some folks say that placing the can upside down and spraying sometimes fixes it but not always lol! 😄 Same here… only one dud heheh. The new can is completely debris free! 3rd coat of black and it’s glossy heaven 🖤 now on to add Krylon purple green! Have an amazing day!

Great video! Very informative! Thank you. For the base black coat, can one use any black paint or would you recommend the base coat sold by each manufacturer?
Loved this video and its almost exactly what I needed to see. My question, and I do plan to experiment myself is how would it be with different base coat. I am painting a parrot that we want more on the blue side, so that is what I will try. If you already know, please do share.
@@MichelleCobb-lp7pv I have tried it with a different base coat and I couldn’t get ANY of the color to show up! It was literally zero, but I only tried it with white. Maybe a different color would have other results.
Also I tried every variation of black bases, gloss black, ultra gloss, semi gloss, flatt, satin, ultra satin, all different primers you name it I tried it to see which gave the best reaction from the pearl mid coats and found that a Ultra Matt black works the best.
If she goes off road at all or in wooded trails you're going to regret doing that almost immediately, if you decide to go through with it clear coat will be your friend but do not use a gloss clear, it will show any and all imperfections, and damage from use. Use a matte clear coat in the same brand of paint you use.
Hi. I just bought a cane of the Emerald turquoise as well. I plan on doing something special with it. (on my channel.) I had the same exact issue with the pink champagne. I was so sad that it wouldn't work after the first spray. I got a refund. I thank you so much for doing this comparison.
I personally associate the northern lights with a green undertone, but unfortunately none of these colors really brought that idea to my mind. I would probably use a blue color shift as a base and then try to add color shift acrylic paint highlights to get a more specific look for that. I haven’t ever tried this though, so it would take some experimenting.
Hello, can any black spray paint be used as a base coat? Does it matter if the black spray is flat or glossy? And does the black spray paint need to be by the same manufacturer as the color shifting top coat spray? Thank you!
I have tried them without the black undertone, and I can tell you there is zero color whatsoever. It was so bizarre. You don’t see ANYTHING without that black base coat. :)
Oh that’s such a good question! I didn’t try other black paint! I did try a white base coat and it literally shows nothing: the black portion is essential, but I’d love to know if other paints work. If you try it please let me know! I think it’s a great suggestion.
