Everyone at Channel 6 should be proud of the tribute they did for Jim. It was fantastic!!! I cried. I laughed. I realized how fortunate we were to have him for all the years we did! Hats off to Jim and Channel 6.
and nice for another tribute to Gary Papa. I’m a 90s kid, so for me Jim Gardner was always the “news guy” and Gary Papa was the “fun guy”. of course I’ve come to appreciate that Jim is fun too lol
Jim Gardner was Philly through and through (a household name in that City of Brotherly Love), and still is, and always will be, even now that he is retired.
I saw Jim Gardner's tribute to Jim O'brien when it was originally broadcast in 1983. 40 years later I still cried when I watched it again. I've traveled to many cities, and being a "news junkie" I've watched many newscasts. Channel 6 Action News is still the best. Nobody is close.
So much history and content to still learn from...Jim will be missed..so many have said this and I can attest (being one who moved away) when you hear Jim Gardner on Action News you knew you were home🙂😊 How President Biden greeted him showed it!😊 And how Quinta Brunson was is truly FACTS!😄😄😊😊🙂🙂
As a fan of his from Miami, I'm so pleasantly surprised to learn that WPLG tried to recruit him. He would've fit in very well, as Miami was still a serious news town in 1976. But I think he made the right move ;) here's to a well deserved retirement!
Bad blood between Marc Howard and the station itself, as he bolted from Channel 6 to Channel 3 (replacing the very anchor that Jim Gardner replaced, being Larry Kane) to do their 11 PM newscast back in the early 2000s. Then again, Channel 3 did get a lot of different journalists and meteorologists from the other two major stations (both Channel 6 and Channel 10).
Eric, Human Nature being what it is, you have to wonder, did those you mentioned have a silent comment : 'Good Riddance'? I would not be surprised. JMO
Scott is there with the Phanatic. ( 9:37 ) Don did have some personal troubles for decades & even ended up in jail for a few years. Released in 2017 and is still on probation. Perhaps they just wanted to steer clear from this. As for other the no-shows, not quite sure. I have seen Lisa Thomas Laury on recent commercials for Independence Blue Cross.
@@ThatGuyInPhilly It would've helped if a lower-third with his name was displayed. Another name that was missing was Monica Malpass who retired not too long ago. I'm aware of Don having some past troubles. I believe Chris Wagner left in 1990 after an alleged parking lot incident with Lisa Thomas-Laury that pretty much forced Wagner out at WPVI and the TV news business. I'm also aware of Lisa having a 2nd bout with POEMS syndrome a few years ago that forced her to retire in 2016. Hopefully she's doing better now and her illness is staying in remission.

Jim Gardner, the GOAT in the Delaware valley! Best of luck into retirement.

The Anchorman of Philly.
Thoroughly enjoying all the nostalgia. Noticeably missing is a greeting from Marc Howard. Bad blood?

Marc wanted to be the main anchor. That wasn't going to happen at Channel 6. So he went to Channel 3 before retiring.

I noticed missing greetings from Lisa Thomas-Laury, Don Tollefson, Chris Wagner, and Scott Plamer. Hmmm.
