Very useful video based on the electric bill on the video the electricity is very expensive 30 cents kw, in North Carolina it is 13 cents, in California peak rate 38 cents. Since the rate on the bill was an average it appears electricity costs almost the same as in California.
Yes electeicity is expensive for this country. It costs pretty much the same as in Canada. Most things are much more affordable here....but electricity is not one of them
You guys are the best! 👍🏻😎 I always wanted to know some examples of how expensive electricity really is since EVERYBODY is always saying that it's terrible... I pulled my 08/2021 bill (I'm in scorching hot Miami) and my energy consumption was 798 kWh, which came to $90.89 😲😲😲 I can now see how EXPENSIVE electricity really is in Nicaragua! Thanks as usual for sharing ✌🏻🤠 PS: Here in FL we have a similar tier system for kWh -- The first 1,000 kWh are less expensive and anything after that is a tad more (residential only).
Great comparison, especially since that would be running A/C! In Nica they start increasing the price per kWh after 25 kWh. It is way more expensive in Nica, but I think it forces people to be more energy conscious, compared to Can/USA where it is not as expensive so it is less of a necessity to be energy wise.
LOL, even if you want more A/C most other things are much cheaper so your cost of living will still be much less. You would be surprised though even if you run the A/C more you likely will not want it a cool. If it is plus 35 Celsius during the day and then your drop the temp 10-12 degrees that is a huge change...I (Tovah) often end up wearing a light sweater in the evening and I love that restaurants don't have A/C in Nica, I find in Canada I am always chilled by the A/C.
Hi guys! I don't really know if you're missing something there, or I'm not seeing it, but based on the data provided, I get that in Canada the cost per kw would be 38 cents (according to the July electric bill) and in Nicaragua it is 37 cents as you mentioned...so energy cost would be cheaper in Nicaragua...🤔
Great catch...we made an error on the math of the total cost per kwh (with all fees included) for the Canadian electric bill. You are right it is 38 cents per kwh (fun fact the electricity prices in Canada have recently went up and this month all in we were paying 42 cents per kwh). If you are planning to move to Nicaragua and are budgeting you should still expect to pay about 45% more in electricity costs. Likely you will use more energy in Nicaragua. If you are coming from a location that you never use A/C (this is us-from Cold Lake Alberta) or a location that you use A/C but only a few months of the year. You will also want to watch our for appliances that may not be as energy efficient. The other key factor is that in Nicaragua the price per kwh increases significantly with higher energy use...which could end up costing you a bundle if you are not being energy conscious (the majority of the electric bill is the cost of electricity not additional fees). Over all we are pretty energy conscious and really work to keep our bill down (many people pay much more).
Actually in Canada (in almost every province) it is the opposite, as you use more electricity you pay less per kWh. Not a great energy conservation strategy.
Is it transportation cost and setup of solar panels the prohibiting factor to be able to supplement electricity costs? Nic. must have allot of sunshine No?
Robin, we have not done much research into the cost of solar panels in Nicaragua. People do have them and we are very interested to learn more. Yes there certainly is tones of sun. I know here in Canada it takes quite a few years until you have a return on your investments of the panels, however electricity is nearly double the price in Nicaragua...so more to follow as we are very energy concisions and would love to install solar if financially it makes sense. If any of our views have information we would love to hear from you.
I love that electricity cost more, the more you use. I think this is a great energy conservation incentive - they should have this in Canada.
Absolutely!
Love saving energy, switching to LED lights. Room air-conditions are a great idea, cools the rooms you need it and does not waste energy.
Totally agree!

Oh f that, I like to comfortable, I'll pay extra.

Thanks so much for following our adventure! We are really having fun doing it!
I thought energy cost in Canada was just like in the US is like that too. The more kw you use, the more expensive it gets.
Actually in Canada (in almost every province) it is the opposite, as you use more electricity you pay less per kWh. Not a great energy conservation strategy.
I like my A/C to much or a fan. I need to sleep at 18C.
Too chilly for us! But with most everything else being cheaper in Nicaragua you can run the A/C all you like.
